Dunnee listen to 'ee. 'Ee's from over the bleddy bridge, be buggered.
I love the 'bleddy'. I used to know a lovely maid from S'nozzle.

That is truly bizarre Nigel. My regrets. Selling my B2A and Peavey amp 10 years ago for a ridiculously low price. But I was skint and needed the money and I didn't know it's true value - there was no basschat back then. Also not being able or ever having had a lesson. The result is my playing is frustratingly poor, to the point I sometimes just think I shouldn't bother.

Still sounds like something an English degree student might use, or a certain brand of incontinence pant

Now I don't want to get all pedantic but across the border here in D'bun I would need to correct you
Welcome from S'nozzle, boy.
Boy would be bu'y, whereby one pronounces all 3 letters especially the y as in yu.
cheers moi 'andsome...nice to see someone local (ish)
cheers moi ' andsome. Tut tut moi is French surely. Over here it would be cheers me 'andzome. Your appalling grammar aside 'us be plaized to zee 'ee' Did I see you post that you are studying in Plymouth? Uni per chance? Does the Student Union still look like a blinged version of Macdonalds?
Here's How:

Move along side wall of venue until level with the front of the stage. Turn through 90 degrees
Raise your hand and wave, as if to someone across the room
Proceed smartly across the front of the stage, continuing to wave.
Keep your head pointed forwards at all times while swivelling your eyes to track the gear. Moving your head is the mark of the hobbyist.
If someone on stage notices you, ignore them. If challenged, produce a card bearing the following words:
"I cannot speak. Barbary pirates cut out my tongue. Can I have a go on your bass, mate?"
I can't stop laughing
Ah, yes, my favoured approach. The old 'Gear-Cruise'. Subtle, yet entirely effective.
Brilliant imagery. I've tried this approach but on occasion failed miserably.

Rather embarrassingly I've only ever played a Maple neck on a guitar. So for looks mainly a maple, but from my limited experience I prefer the feel of rosewood when playing
Hi all... Complete newbie to the bass and nice to find a forum where I can find out a bit of info!! I used to play drums many moons ago and sat down one day when my brother taught me a bassline to play just so he could practice his guitar...loved it!! that was about 16 years ago and I finally have got round to getting a bass look forward to chatting to anyone and everyone...but please excuse me if I come out with some dumb questions..
That's actually my job Welcome to basschat, it's treasure trove of knowledge. Not me but a lot of the other members are the fountains of knowledge.

Not abass player? It's alright we won't tell the mods. Welcome!

Dashed again. You're 250 miles and about 4 1/2 hours too far away. Best of luck with your search.

Agree that it's probably not used much in mainstream. However, alternative and the likes of metal probably used more than is often assumed. In the right place it does its job

Welcome to basschat. If you're looking for advice on anything bass related this is definitely the place. It's a great place with some truly talented and helpful folk. Enjoy, I know I do.
Hi Marvin, sorry for the delay, only just noticed this... I usually say that i will try to hook up with long distance folk when I have a gig their way but I don't get down your way too often, although I gave Silverfoxnik a lesson recently and he is convinced it could be done with Skype so I will look into that and let you know the results and see if you think that would suit. Jake
This time I'll apologise for not getting back to you . Unfortunately North Devon doesn't attract much of anything, well maybe apart from retired business folk and former civil servants these days. If you do happen to do a gig around the Barnstaple area flag it up. I'd definitely do my best to come along. It's not often we see Noam Chomsky reading bass players in this neck of the woods. I would be interested to know what the results of your investigation of Skype lessons come up with and then maybe discuss afterwards. Thanks for your reply Jake. cheers Rich -
Drummers, handling proper instruments should be reported the appropriate authorities as soon as. There's definitely one drummer who will never be going anywhere near my bass. Calls himself my mate, he's a ...........
Tell you what Pete Academey, Isn't that"Steely Dan" of band name legend? who's is the one on top? yours or Walters?
-
Unfortunately I haven't got an Aloe Vera plant, but I'm seriously considering getting one. For now perhaps I'll have to settle for drinking a gallon of coffee and p1ssing on my hands

The poll settings haven't heard of proportional rep, it won't let me vote twice

I like that. Congrats. No more GAS, until the next is what you mean isn't it.

I simply cannot sing. It would be criminal to inflict that much pain and suffering on people. It' also complicated by the fact that as soon as I try to sing my fingers stop moving.

Damned deja vue again. Think I keep reading the same post twice. Could be an echo on the forum. Hmmm. Either that or I need my eyes tested. -
If someone asks I've never had a problem tbh! I'm just nice like that!
EDITED: just wasn't appropriate the first post I did . Damn there go my chances of being asked to be a mod, must remember to be more mature. Only kidding mate, still listening to that tune you put on here, luvin' it.
I generally let properly interested parties have a go, especially kids I'm with OG on that one, light the fire and all. I never let pissed punters near my gear though and will defend with considerable force if necessary. I once did a corporate gig for a leading firm of stadium builders (for the Manchester commonwealth games site launch) and a pissed up guy came up and asked the guitar player if he could have a go, the guitarist was a shy retiring type so I leaned over and asked the guy, "what car do you drive?" "Porsche" came the reply, I said, "tell you what, give me a bottle wine and your keys, and I'll let you go on his guitar" He declined.
Brilliant. Like the fact you asked for a bottle of wine as well, not just the keys, just to drive the point home. From bitter experience I never let anyone near my gear, but since I'm 'inactive' at the moment there is little need to worry. The last time someone borrowed my gear they blew my amp apart. So now the answer is leave it alone. Saying that I do let the kids sometimes have a small go, very supervised, so they get interested in music. That's where I draw the line.

I had a break for 15 years and I'm still as f@cking useless as I was back then. Note to self - get lessons

Does it work on hands that have completely dried out and started to split open? I work outside and the current weather plays absolute havoc with my hands. I moisturise, but to little effect. Currently the tips of my index and big fingers on both hands have split open and so to has my left thumb. I was just about to put in some serious practice this week and start a proper practice regime sort of thing, that's all up the spout now. I'll have to wait for my hands to heal again.
