1. Marvin

Ibanez lovers.

I assume you've read this thread. A Classic Design BCer's eulogising about the SR's
2.
I used to put my strings in the dishwasher. Worked a treat.
We don't have a dishwasher so I tried putting mine in the washing machine. Wife would have none of it. Women they're so protective about some things
3. QOTSA plays continual Hey Jude!
4.
Speeding up and slowing down - unplanned, inconsistently and not together - is a major problem.
You've heard my playing then.
5.
Ok, to re-iterate: Playing behind or ahead of the beat, as you say, are subtle, consistent rhythmic devices that affect the feel of a tune sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, depending on how appropriately they are applied. If done well - and it is a *lot* harder to do this than many people think - they can improve a piece. Rushing or dragging is a problem with a musician's timing, and I have yet to find any situation where it has a positive effect. Jennifer
As Jennifer's explanation is the only one I've understood in this thread, I thoroughly agree with her. I also agree that playing off the beat is a lot a harder than many think. What often happens is you get 'musicians' boasting that they play off the beat when in actual fact they are simply playing out of time. I play off the beat all the time, others say I can't keep time
6.
The one thing that really annoys me about drop tuning is when people still refer to the notes as though it was in standard tuning. If I'm in drop D the 3rd fret is an F not G.
How lazy! I can't see how that would work for them. That's potentially eight notes they've lost. Careless.
7. What on earth is going on here, extremely unpleasant.
8. Have on occasion detuned the E to D for Muse tracks. Don't think I have the appropriate strings on for it though.
9. I'm somewhat confused. I still don't really understand this 'rushing' and ''drawing'. Potentially it sounds that it could result in one terrible messy sound.
10.
My current theory is thinner teardrop shaped ones probably work better for people who don't use them all the time and big thick triangles work better for agricultural players like me who don't use fingers.
I'm rather agricultural (apt given my Devonian heritage ), so that would explain why I'm struggling with the teardrop picks I've been trying to use. Just remembered what the others were that I used to use, Jim Dunlop Tortex (little pic of a tortoise on them), nearing 1mm.
11. I had to give up using a pick, just couldn't get to grips with it. Seriously, I think the ones I've recently bought are too thick, and I can't get used to how rigid they are. Unfortunately I can't find my old ones, the house seems to have eaten them! As an aside, a guitard reprimanded me the other day for referring to them as picks and was adamant that they should be called plectrums.
12. Storing gear in a garage in a good way of making it worthless, sorry to be so blunt. If you need money combined with the fact you've nowhere to store the rig probably best to move it on. Only problem may arise when you go back to gigging, in that you may not have the reddies to buy something you need.
13. Agree with a lot of what Bassasin and Jezzaboy have posted. When you consider what we are told are the best live bands at the moment I would rather pay out to see the Who than some of those. I saw the Kings of Leon on TV at one of the summer festivals. They are supposed to be a 'brilliant live act'. They were f2cking dire. Lifeless sh1t and overall crap. Fault him for some technical f@ck ups, but I'd rather see someone like Townsend play with his passion for his art than some bunch of dire shoegazing miseries. Seen Daltrey sing live some years back admittedly, he was superb.
14.
Far too many waffly 'opinions' in this thread for my liking. For those who care about the TRUTH, here are the plain, unvarnished, scientific facts:
He, does as always, speaks the truth. I do like the colours of the diagram BTW.
15. Jake, why are there so many lines? Is it tab for a six string bass? Thanks for providing this exercise if I ever get my lazy arse in gear to practice I will use it. Cheers Rich
16.
music..... good roger..... ok pete (vocal)..... crap all imo
I'll go with that. Seems fair. I enjoyed it. Set was fantastic and good to see a British band at a major US 'cultural' and sporting event. Good on 'em. Just wish Pete had refrained from singing.
17.
Rule #6 - Return to basschat with fresh context, realising how superbly civilised and level headed it is
OH YES
18. Rule #4: If you can't do rule 1 or 2 then don't bother with You Tube, thus avoiding Hypercriticals.
19. I think this thread has been entirely misleading. It would seem to have little to do with Core Tone not being important and more to do with Mr S having a Mazda MX5 that he can't fit an amp or rig into when he goes to gigs. Tut tut. You're game has been sussed mate.
20. Forgot to add, it's so thin, I still can't believe it's so thin.
21.
No problem Rick it was good old eBay.. The Samsung GX1L is the same as a Pentax *Isd or something, pretty entry level. Works well though. Was just talking to my best friends granddad who was the photography lecturer at Oxford Brookes for 40 years - he looked at my pics and liked them, and gave me some advice. Really great to have him on hand, and when I come to upgrade my camera he will be pointing me in the right direction! ped
Thanks Ped. My wife has a semi-automatic Pentax P30t. What she wants to do is get a DSLR that will take her existing lenses, as it would be somewhat of a waste not to use them. When I saw you post the Samsung was similar to a Pentax it got my brain thinking. Thanks again, it gives another option.
22.
I think you might as well get an SLR because you can play with different lenses and that is where things start to get really interesting. How much dosh do you have? I got my camera and two lenses for about £300 ped
May I be incredibly nosey and enquire where you bought them from. I ask because my wife wants to get back into photography and is getting a little put off by the possible cost. Cheers Rich
23.
At Mrs HT's birthday bash last weekend:
You look like you've been doing that all you're life.
24. Bought my 300 in August last year and couldn't believe how well thought out the body was. My previous bass was a Hohner B2A that I sold 10 years ago. Everything about it is just so much value for money. If I was to spend money on basses, rather than get a new one I might improve the pick ups but that would be all I would do.
