some of my videos with fretless bass... IMPRO on FRETLESS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9TyM-TYfJg
Not usually my thing, but I really got into that. Superb.

The latest offering from Karnivool - Sound Awake. Bloody love it. Played it at work as soon as I got it (one of the benefits of being a postie you can intercept your own post :brow: ). Everyone in the office hated it, apart from one of me old mates from the punk days. We're embarking on designing some moshing slippers for the older mosher!

Warwick have always been my favourite, they are just it for me. Out of the new ones, probably Streamer LX or Streamer Stage 1 or Thumb NT Of course I can't afford them but I may be able to persuade the other half I need a new bass in which case the std Rockbass Corvette would be very acceptable.

Can they get Wayne to respray it
I'm going old school - Andy Fraser's solo in 'Mr Big' for me, from Free Live.
You beat me to it Thoroughly seconded.

I've also gone from plectrum to fingers. Fingers are a lot more versatile in varying tone.

Song for a 3 piece, mmmmm. What about Sit Down by James.

Saw him at Milton Keynes Bowl in the early 90's supporting ZZ Top. Awesome vocalist. Only just got into Free, have I been missing out over the years! Congratulations

Ballade with artificial harmonics on bass

Great playing. As simple as that, great playing. Thanks for posting it. -
do you routinely add reverb to your sound ?
Marvin replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
I always have a touch of reverb - it really 'lifts' the sound out of the mix a bit I find. Only really subtle, and only above 3K Here is a sample which shows how subtle it is! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/USB%203/Canti%27s%20Wrap.mp3 or even https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/USB%203/Stic...20Situation.mp3 Cheers ped
You groovy mother you. Great sound and tone, and good tunes. I've only recently got a pedal with reverb on it, and not quite got to grips with it. Whenever I've added reverb it's sounded dreadful. I'm assuming now listening to ped's samples and what others have posted that I'm putting on too much reverb. Time to have another tweak and make it a little more subtle. -
If money were no object, what bass would you have?
Marvin replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
A top end Ibby soundgear in blue. Or Silddx's white Warwick. That would probably be quite expensive as I'd have to hire an assassin. -
I'm not sure what you mean here. The bass sound is pretty ordinary to me...or am I missing something. This band probably sampled everything, then messed about with it. I don't trust bass sounds on record these days, as there's so much you can do to them via EQ, effects, etc.
Blasphemer, heretic stone him. I was only listening to the MC's the other day. Great album, great track. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what they've done.
Danny Thompson offered me outside once. Mistaken identity, but I wouldn't want to cross him, jovial though he may be!
I saw a documentary about John Martyn several months ago, and according to Martyn they had quite a few 'physical arguments'! Both were quite handy. Great interview. I've only just got into Nick Drake and John Martyn and love Thompson's playing. Both a great loss. This is quite ironic as almost 20 years ago myself and 2 mates went to see him play live. We went expecting rock music I suppose, from the list of artists he had played with and for. We didn't expect folk/jazz and came out thoroughly fed up. I think we were too young and naive to appreciate what we had seen and probably wasn't helped by being of an altered state of consciousness.

Welcome.

what tune/band that got you into bass ?
Marvin replied to phil.i.stein's topic in General Discussion
Andy Fraser's line in Songs of Yesterday, re-ignited my wish to pick up the bass again. Before that the major reason I played bass was because it was the only slot left. I really wanted to play guitar, oh the shame of it. -
Great array of different sounds. And gives plenty of food for thought. Liked the rosewoods a lot. I like that riff, i might pinch it for jamming purposes only of course. Good clips of the band via 'see my basses'. Do you always play with no socks on? If so perhaps you should consider 'branding' yourself WoT the Barefoot Bassist.

I've always sought a deep warm mellow tone, may be slightly dub. Over Christmas this has changed radically. I've started playing near the bridge and developing a sharp attacking and with more treble tone. (a result of getting an fx box). So virtually overnight my whole sound has changed a lot. And I like it. It's probably the tone I've been looking for for ages and not realised that I was looking in the wrong place.
To be precise, that was the Middle East mode called "Ahava Raba". This is obviously a difference ... in my language, we call "oriental" not only what came from Japan, China or India for example, but also the all things, that concerns to Israel, Egypt, Turkey or Greece.
Hope I didn't offend you. Thanks for the explanation, I'm now a slightly less cultural and musical idiot. Watched the clips again and am even more impressed. Absolutely fantastic playing. Feel free to post some more. Cheers
He's actually been playing this bass and the Streamer on the latest 360 world tour along with a lot of promotion shows like The Brits so its certainly being used, along with his Streamer. As for his playing, having worked with one of U2's producers, I can tell you that Adam is a very good player. Maybe not the most technical but he is though of as one of the most solid tight bass players around. He certainly keeps the bottom end holding together.
Sorry just being predictable. I don't actually mind his playing, it's alright. In fact you hear other bassists lauded for their playing and I find myself thinking it doesn't sound any different to Adam Clayton. That is, if it is him playing. Live U2 have an awful lot underneath those stages. Drummer mate of mine maintains that Larry Mullen is very limited, and doubts he could do all of U2's output! U2 do give the impression they are there to support the Bono world band wagon.
I bet Clayton will barely use it.
Some say he can't play, so that might be a safe bet! But I would never say such a thing, it was just a rumour I heard

Looks like they got the popcorn in and been watching Spinal Tap, before coming up with that.

Not really a Bass shop, Soundpad in Barnstaple (n.devon). very off the beaten. Quite competitive on price, used to have a rep for being expensive. Very good so far - but I'll tell you if they fall down if the replacement battery compartment box, for my Ibby, doesn't turn up in the next 10 days! Fingers crossed Used Gear4Music a couple of times and had good experiences, so far. Never really had the cash to buy loads of gear so never really had an awful experience so far.
