1. I'm not sure my tuner works properly so I couldn't honestly tell you. I hope it's just standard EADG so I'm no.
  2. Too far off as per. Hope it all goes well. Have a good one.
  3. I've got no hope. The wife found me trying to put the breakfast cereal in the fridge on several occasions lately. So as for advice on remembering songs, no chance.
  4.
If you knew FA about theory you wouldn't know they were roots.
You caught me out. I'm actually a prof of music, no I'm not. I've just started to try to get to grips with theory properly ( and by that I mean at the very early stages of) and having read this thread realise I have a loooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg journey.
  5.
For my lot it's easy. We chase the key around through trial and error to find one that suits our vocalist, and then realise it's A (invariably)
A perfect plan.
  6. Well just as I thought - I know FA about theory, back to playing roots.
  7.
This is roughly 2 years old, and potentially a winner:
It's got to be at least on any short list. What were you trying to remove from your body?
  8. I'm using a small Ibanez soundwave 35 watt, as a practice amp. It's got quite a versatile range of sound, and for the price, has some good features - the shape feature to scoop the mids is good. It works for me. The only gripe I've got is that it is a bit hissy when you get it up past halfway. That said, the amp I had before that was the Peavy basic 60 which was alright but was never comfortable with - too heavy, not loud enough and could never get the sound I wanted.

    Ibanez SR500

I'm no expert either. Recently bought the SR300. Got to say it is the most comfortable bass I've owned. Saying that I've only had 2 other basses before! Seriously I love it.
  10. That just about sums it up. I saw a tune the uffer day that was played with a dropD. So I would either have to de-tune or pop out and buy another. If I'd had 5 strings - no problem. Seems to be about practicability and changes in music.
  11.
On the drum forum you wouldn't believe the number of people who think they're the second coming (of buddy rich) because they play on some tiny little kit with 2 drums and a hihat and that this somehow "forces their creativity". It's the same attitude that people just think they're superior because of what sort of thing they play rather than their actual skills on music.
If you read that back to yourself, you may find its own innate contradiction contained within.
  12. Hi there. My brother spent a couple of years in Utrecht, and I had a very nice evening dinner out there when I went to see him.
  13.
Rather slam my knob in the car door again.........
Is this a hobby that we are unaware of?
  14.
How were you playing it?
Wasn't placing my fingers on the frettless board in the right place so the intonation was always slightly out. What it was to be youthful and ignorant.
  15. Still off on the tangent. I swear the guy out of the Doves has a right handed bass set up for right hand, and he is left handed.
  16. I used to have a Hohner B2A (Steinberger copy), over 10 years ago, that the previous person had defretted. Having read this thread I realise that I was playing it completely wrong. No wonder I sounded dreadful.

  18.
On special offer at Tescos:
19. Cheers. I found some on ebay. £2.90 inc p+p.
  20.
The best advice would be - 1. Check/replace the battery 2. Open the control cavity and squirt a little cleaner (e.g. Super Servisol) into the open part of all the pots - use the "drinking straw" attachment on the cleaner to accurately spray it inside the pots. 3. Spray some cleaner on a jack plug and insert this into the input jack on the guitar, then turn the jack plug around to spread the cleaner over the jack contacts. That will cure most simple problems.
Thanks for that, I'll give it a go. I assume Super Servisol is available at most music stores.
Ah, so olive oil and salt and having the oven on 475F for the first 20 minutes is not the correct answer, then?
And thanks for the recipe, we were struggling to think what to have tomorrow.
  21. I think, as I've got older, my strap has got higher to match the fact the waistband of my trousers are going higher.
  22.
I used to use a pick but can't get along with them anymore. It feels alien. Agree with some of what Bilbo said about beginners getting off the mark.

I use a pick as I cannot play my band's fast-paced punk music (loads of 16th notes) with my fingers. I would like to be equally adept at finger-style but I have a hell of a long way to go. How Steve Harris keeps up the pace I have no idea (whether or not he uses compression or whatever), ditto Geezer B
Small caveat to my original post. I didn't actually mean to give the impression that my fingers were any good, it's just that I'm absolutely useless with a pick these days. So in fact I'm shafted -oh bugger
  23.
My old friends
That's really nice. Really go for the grain coming through. Must admit in its original state it did look a bit orange, although that may have just been the photo. It looks great know, you should be proud of your work there.
  24.
Well, at the moment I play my Ibanez BTB200 4 string. It has great active electronics but its the best thing i can afford. Oh well.
I could only afford an Ibanez SR300 - great to play. Always will want a Fender Jazz or P though, or maybe a Gibson EB3, really liked the tone Andy Fraser used to get on those Free records
