Cheap bass rigs that you love , and beat your high end rigs
Marvin replied to kevvo66's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yes, you're not wrong. Even a small carrier bag with 2 cables is an annoyance -
The school my son attends has about 8 basses (mostly full scale Encores which are dire) and without doubt the most popular bass is the Squier Bronco. Actually, I set it up the other day and whilst tuning and noodling I was quite taken with it...it's a nice bass.

The widest I've ever played is 42mm...which is a Squier P bass I've got now. I've also got 2 basses with 38mm nuts. It's not something that bothers me, I can switch between both easily. For me it's neck profile. Big chunky necks crucify my hand. I found this out when I bought a Rockbass Corvette. 38mm nut but a baseball bat for a neck...most horrid instrument I've ever played. I find the 42mm p bass with a slimmer neck profile much more comfortable...my main bass is still my 38mm jazz because it looks awesome

Ibanez do a good range. https://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_short_scale_basses.html

Singlecuts. Pointy. Exotic wood finishes. Wood pup covers and knobs. Ricks have never appealed to me, they look a bit of a mess tbh. I used to really like Warwicks but now wouldn't even look at one.

The incorporation of Mustang style modelling and effects has no appeal to me whatsoever. The great thing about the V3 Rumbles are that they have a great tone and aren't 'over featured'. You just plug in, some minor twiddling if need be for personal taste and you're there. There's simply no need to add anything to these amps, and if u did want to, buy a £45 Zoom B1n and put it through the fx loop

This. Never buy anything if you've got doubts.

As said, very similar to the Fender Rumble, but with a few more features. I like them, even if the controls are on the back it never bothered me on the Rumble I had. The Blackstars may be a little more versatile than the Rumbles. I watched a small clip of them being played at NAMM and they seem to sound good. I'd be interested if I were in the market for a combo.

American Professional, Elite, Vintage and now Original series. There just seem to be too many ranges to me. There's no point in Fender doing 'new', its customer base just won't buy any of it. If it were me, I'd go for a simplified product range of what they do best.

The GK Backline600 head I had, that was £100 and a pint of cider. Really nice sounding head and very loud. I used to play that through a Ampeg B410hlf. Got that 2nd hand for not a lot (can’t remember the actual price). Really loud with a good tone that rig. Brand new, I bough the V2 Fender Rumble 210 350w combo for about £300. In retrospect I should have just stuck with that as it sounded really good and was really solid. -
A Thomann own brand multi-fx/pedal board bag. It’s pretty good for the job

Hopefully better than the TRBX500 series. I can’t say I was impressed at all with the 500 I had. It sounded quite bland and I didn’t regard the build quality to be any better than my Ibanez SR300, and I think the Ibanez actually sounded better.

Can they not get flatwounds in the States? string their bass with flats they’d never have any of these ‘problems ‘

I live a bit out of the way, however, after my last experience of selling a bass and sending it by courier I'm not sure I'd use a courier again. Thankfully I sold the bass on here and the buyer was an absolute gent. The way the instrument was couriered was absolutely appalling and it was only because I had double packed it in two cardboard boxes and a mass of bubble wrap that saved the bass from serious damage. The courier was one that gets a good rep on here but quite frankly I wouldn't use them again. I'm not sure I'd send a bass via courier ever again. This obviously causes a bit of a problem for myself if I want to ever sell a bass again, but I'll have to work around that some how. I can certainly understand sellers who don't want to risk using couriers.

You’ll be wanting chips as well?

If I was a guitarist I'd probably get a PRS. I think they make some lovely looking, lovely sounding guitars. Hence I was full of excited anticipation when the Kestrel and Kingfisher basses were announced...suffice to say I was sorely disappointed when I saw what they'd come up with. I wouldn't even want to know what they sound like. For a PRS instrument they are as dull as dull can be.

Yamaha basses. I had one a few years ago and it was the most uninspiring and underwhelming instrument I've ever bought. I'd never buy another. It sounded awfully bland and ok the build was good, but it was no more, or less, than what I'd expect for its price. Never again.

A pre-CBS Fender Precision - Black, tort scratchplate, rosewood fingerboard - all original. or an early 70's one in the same colour etc.

I own one of the first V7s. These V3s look incredible. The see through red finish is great. This will be so much more bass than the equivalent Squire Affinity Jazz. The Squire is only marginally cheaper, say about £10, so I know where my money would be going. It really is a no brainer. I can't see many differences with a V7. The bridge has standard saddles, the neck obviously hasn't the blocks and binding. Perhaps the nut is synthetic rather than bone. Mahogany maybe cheaper than alder and swamp ash?...who knows. I just hope they don't do a P3, otherwise I am in trouble

Bass TAB with GP5 File Extension

Tux Guitar is ok. Like @charic said it’s not as good as GPro but it does the job. Tux Guitar will also open PowerTabs from Ultimate Guitar, which I’m not sure GPro does this. -
Anything resembling a Warwick Corvette. I always GAS'd for one but after playing one...it was the most uncomfortable instrument I've ever tried to play, so never again.

Try and get the kitchen finished. Sort a new panel for the bath...it's not had one for about 4 years now and the Mrs is getting a bit fed up with the 'open' look under the bath. And new shelves and storage for the kids rooms. Oh, and there's always stuff in the garden to sort out of course.

I used to bump into the guys from The Fallen State regularly, we used to share the same rehearsal rooms. Nice bunch of guys...very loud though
