Flea's National Anthem at Lakers vs. Jazz
Marvin replied to bluesparky's topic in General Discussion
I was disappointed that he didn't seem to care. It was a very poor performance, just best to put one's hand up and admit so, not blither on about narrow minded people. -
The singer in my previous band just walked into pubs, venues that she knew put on music and gave them a sales pitch...in one afternoon we had 4 gigs booked, 2 in that month and 2 the month following. EDIT: that was in North Devon btw.

Most signature instruments seem to be stock instruments with an autograph on the headstock and an increase in price. Off the top of my head I can only think of Marcus Miller's Jazz bass and Billy Sheehan's Yamaha Attitude bass as being anything 'signature'. They, especially Sheehan, created a bass that was unique for them.

Quit my band ,best decision I've made in years
I'm not like "a lot of you" Not having a day job allows me to do what I want when I want. I call it freedom. I'm not punching a clock for anyone. And I'm doing just fine. I'm not rich but, I can eat ,pay my mortgage and all my other expenses. Blue
But have you not said previously that money from your band is not your only source of income? If so isn't it somewhat misleading to give people the impression that you live off playing in bars. -

They should have booked Mark King. -
I heard a chap testing one in Mansons a few months ago. He didn't even want to like it as he always preferred Jazz basses. We both agreed it sounded lovely.

Were pub/smaller venue bands quieter in the past?
Marvin replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
Excessive volume has always been a problem, it's just that now, with better equipment, it's easier to be louder. I remember my cousin booked a band for her wedding some 30 years ago. The evening venue wasn't big but the band were stupid loud. And on Friday I saw a band play a small venue and they were too loud, so in 30 years, not much has changed. I went to see The Dammed play a couple of months ago and the volume was so excessive I was thankful I found my earplugs in my jacket pocket. The volume was such that there was no mix, just an undefined wall of noise. Some bands seem to think it's clever to play excessively loud, which I think is a bit dumb. The thing is today is that the PA will let bands play loud, so technically speaking they'll sound better. BUT, human ears can still only handle so much before they start to crap out. You can have the best and sweetest sounding PA but if you raise the volume beyond what people's ears can handle the band will still sound crap. -
All I had yesterday evening running through my head was the theme tune to Fraggle Rock. Thoroughly annoying and very off putting. I'm just thankful I don't start any of the songs in my current band.

...that in the few hours before a gig your mind goes blank and you can't remember a single song from the set list? However, you have, going around your head, some hell awful cheesy tune you happened to hear on a supermarket radio?

They're about 7.5lbs. Probably one of the lightest basses you can get
I usually get mine from tescos.
Tesco Rich Shorties biscuits and a lovely cup of tea. Simple fulfilment:)
It's been up quit awhile now , and others basses I have had that I thought were awful basses sold within days ,weird
That's people, they're just plain weird
-
It can take time for a buyer to come along. It took almost a year to sell one of my basses, I did have to drop the price a bit, but it's just a matter of patience sometimes.

I was fulfilled last night. Practice was really good, we rehearsed really well for our gig on Friday...at which we shall probably have an audience you can count on one hand

Great service, great comms, great cables. I ordered a couple of cables a week or so ago, Dave had them in the post and on the way very quickly. As spongebob says "Why on earth would you buy from anywhere else"
It could be argued that you generally don't see the clothes you're wearing, or the car you (may) drive around in... etc.
I drive an old Mondeo and predominately wear jeans, t-shirt and trainers (none of which have logos on)...what can I say

I'm not worried about nut width or fretboard radius, however, profile wise I much prefer a slim profile (depth). I had a Rockbass Corvette a while back. They have a 38mm nut but the neck is like a bass ball bat. I found it horrid and almost unplayable. (there was a long list of things I came to hate about that bass). My hands aren't small but neither are they very flexy so to speak.

Regards cabs painted in TuffCab paint. It may not look 'pretty' however, really it's just makes it look like black box like all other black boxes, which for most of the time we have our backs turned to. My latest cab is covered in the stuff, if it looked crap the wife would have said so. Unlike the well gigged and tolex torn 410 I had until recently, that I would have had to pay someone quite a bit of cash to recover to look decent again, with TuffCab I can buy a pot of it on ebay and 'repair' any blemishes myself. I don't believe the covering actually effects the tone of the cabinet either, although I might be wrong.
Well I'm glad this topic has sparked such interest, it is indeed a great time to be a bass player! *Update* Had a gig in Brighton tonight so I stopped by the BF factory to try out some cabs. First thing I'll say is that the guys at BF are super nice and passionate about what they do, which is always a plus. Following recommendations, I tried my Markbass Momark 500 through a Supertwin and the Two 10. Both great cabs all around - lightweight, powerful and wonderful tone . My only reservation is that I have been playing a 2x10 with an adjustable tweeter for the past 4 years so naturally I was missing a bit of sparkle. The 2x10 was slightly more appealing as it goes up to a higher freq range than the Supertwin. It might just be something I need to get used to so I'm going to spend more time checking out the full range
Great stuff. Always the best way. We can all chip in with what sounds good, but ultimately everyone's preferences and tastes are different.

All the bods, Vanderkley, Bergantino, Genzler, Barefaced, TKS and there's probably one I've missed, will all have a 2x12 black box (in some cases in other pretty colours) that will satisfy the OPs needs in terms of volume and weight. Which one anyone chooses is entirely a matter of personal taste, tone is an individual thing. How someone sounds is up to them, there's no right or wrong.

All the local festivals have pretty much the same bands, just in a different running order. The slightly larger festivals tend to book big name bands I've never heard of. As a punter they don't interest me. And none of the bands I've been in, as is the case for so many others, have known the right people to get on the bill...it all gets stale and dull after a while.

There are no rules, use as many, or as few, fingers as feels comfortable. If 2 is comfortable, that's all good but if you want to nail the 3 finger thing, excellent. Just to say, Steve Harris only uses 2 fingers, Sheehan however does most definitely use 3.
I have serious GAS for one of these. The Sonic Blue screamed 'Buy Me' as soon as I saw it, but everyone else seemed to be going 'gaga' over the Surf Green ones. I also love the Black/Black/Maple. I will pull the trigger on one soon, but which one?
One of each. It's the only solution
