When I started playing again several years ago I felt I couldn't say no to any band offer. So, I ended up in stuff I really hated...and in loads of stuff that just didn't last. After the best band I'd been in folded, that was it, I became incredibly picky. Several former band mates asked me to form or join stuff and I point blank refused. I'm now in an originals band (I'm in my mid 40's) and I'm, musically, much happier. There's no money in it, but then I never seemed to get anything from playing covers to be honest, and now I only play for 45mins rather than 2hours I know of a bass player local to me, he's very good, way better than me, previously signed artist etc etc, he can't get a band together for love nor money. He's been trying to get a funk, soul thing started up and he's had no luck at all. I suppose it falls outside the staple diet of folk or rock and pop covers that musos around this way seem to head for.

I did have 3, then I sold one so it was 2, but I couldn't help myself and now I've got 3 again.

It's pretty much an all in house design and spec bass. Sire don't really buy in off the shelf parts, from what they've said. For example, from looking at the pickguard, I doubt there are many replacement pgs that'll fit without a bit of fettling. The neck plate is standard From the thread on TalkBass, modding these basses is rare.

I never play with a pick, I simply can't get the hang of playing with one

[/quote] That pretty much sums it up. People who turn up having not learnt the material, even worse when it's original stuff and they wrote it. Endless excuses why they can't practice, rehearse or gig. Never being available to gig. Not being able to play. 'That'll do' mentality. Band members have generally turned out to be a major disappointment. It seems that because people play an instrument or sing they feel they have to conform to the stereotype of being a flaky, unreliable bell end.

It's about the only bass from the Epiphone/Gibson catalogue I'd look to buy. There was a second had one in a my local music shop and I was very tempted to buy it.

They're certainly not going to be for everyone. They are very 'voiced' and have been designed to a particular tone IMO. The punch is what I liked, for others it's not what they'll want...which is all good.

I'm not sure there isn't a bass I'd sell. I don't intend on selling any of the 3 basses I've got at the moment, I'm very happy with them (although saying that I don't actually play the Ibanez anymore really), but that's not to say if I saw something I really wanted in the future, and it meant selling them to get it, they wouldn't end up in the for sale section. There is the expectation that expensive gear should have near no 'faults'. The most expensive bass, and it wasn't that expensive, I've bought was a serious disappointment. I couldn't get a decent action on it, the neck buzzed like a chainsaw for me. I got rid of it.

It's always good to see the actual guitar or bass player running through their rig and not palming off the interview to their tech. Great rig rundown, I really enjoyed it, and good fun. The interviewer didn't have to do an awful lot, Doug was brilliant... 'bendy pedals'

I'd get in touch with Alex, he may suggest an alternative BF cab. Then order it, try it out and see, or rather listen, and make your mind up. Gear and tone are very personal and individual things. BF make a great product, the only way you'll find out if you like it is if you try one.
