Actually yes - I sprang fully-formed from a riven oak tree one stormy night in 1860.
That'll explain quite a lot

Im torn with trading my Lakland 55 02 for a Jazz Bass.
Marvin replied to bubinga5's topic in Bass Guitars
Keep the Lakland. If it's a bass you like and feel comfortable with, keep it. -
Buying a 5-string bass - MTD, Wyn, Ken Smith, Roscoe, Mattisson... HELP!!!
What other retailers would you suggest, in line with BD? Does anywhere in the UK stock Fodera? Just so I know what £7000 feels like!
I don't know about the UK but Thomann, I think, stock some Fodera's. You could take advantage of distance selling regulations. -
Sire V7 MM Bass. Controls designed by a blind 5 year old?
Marvin replied to logicred's topic in Bass Guitars
I have fairly agricultural paddles for hands but don't find the controls on the V7 a problem at all. -
I use compression sometimes, and sometimes I don't. I use it for the a little subtle addition to tone not to take anything away.
Lots of pro players seems to use a degree of compression all the time (Marcus Miller, Tony Levin to name a couple of examples). Perhaps they need to sort out their technique... what do you think?
It is a quandary as to why so many big name bass players use compression. You would have thought, given they've got all their time to devote to just playing, they'd have practised enough to have exemplary technique

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Marvin replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
I've had no regrets at all about buying my V7. It's probably been the only piece of gear I haven't thought I'd had maybe been better buying something else. Definitely a keeper. I'm waiting to see what the P bass will be like. -
Interesting that both Sheehan and Kotzen have signature gear that, not only do they actually use but, was from thier own personal aims and development...it's not stuff that has their name slapped on it and they only got asked "what's your favourite colour for this? ". I've seen pictures of Sheehan's old set ups back in the Mr Big days and it was literally huge. Everything, as he said was rack mount. I suppose it's a sign of technology that pedals are so much better and the need to cut down on the cost of hauling gear around. Sheehan always gets criticism for his tone but whether you like it or not it is born out of a purpose and not just being a "look at me!". He's a nice guy and I bet his tech is one of the least worked guys on the road
Excellent news. This is the bass with the piezo in the nut is it not? I presume the usual forum rules about pictures apply.
It's the law. No pictures, it didn't happen

I used one of these at a gig last year (it was the headline band's set up) and really liked it. Good amps. I'd be interested but I live in Devon so not really feasible.

If a landlord asks you to play for free, show him this video

A great response to anyone who comes out with "it'll be a great way to showcase your band" -
It's a promo for selling cymbals not some great artistic endeavour. What's the fuss? The guy can clearly play, chill out.
Look up Jack Bruce's views on McCartney.
Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker pretty much slagged off every other band of their generation. Brilliant bass player, but the skills Bruce seemed to lack was not to be so arrogant and keeping his mouth shut.
Guess I'm the only one that thinks those clip on tuners just look wrong!
I only use a clip on at home, never in public, they look hideous. (all my gear is packed away under the stairs at home, so a clip on is just for ease, and android phone tuners are abysmal in my experience)
-
I've got 3. One on my Boss GT6B, a Korg clip on and a small pocket sized Korg tuner. Why I've got 2 Korgs I don't know because I don't rate them at all.

I would really like them if it wasn't for that twatt!
Just making up such a silly stage name for himself paints him as a twatt
...and wearing a wooly hat with a dinner jacket, monumental **** end. Referencing back to other comments about Bono, for me too it's the man's complete hypocrisy. Preaching to everyone about 'the poor' in that condescending Victorian missionary style and at the same time supporting the people and institutions that keep the poor poor. Can't stand the man. He makes my blood boil. -
Loz I had a set of Pro Steels on my main gigging bass for best part of a year. I only changed them then because I felt I ought to
That's very flamboyant . For the sound I like I find they stay sounding good for some considerable time...probably why I don't buy other brands

All 4 of U2 are insufferable. I'm fortunate though, I don't like their music either I really like the Winery Dogs but Mike Portnoy...hmmmm, sometimes it would be best if people with a public platform didn't express every thought they had, especially on social media. -
They're the only strings I use, I've got them on all 3 of my basses. They also seem to be used by many bass manufacturers. A set of EXL's were on my Sire V7 when I bought it and it sounds lovely.

Last gig I went to was last Friday to see Wille and the Bandits at a local arts centre (about 200ish capacity). They gig and tour pretty much all the time but they've always got bags of enthusiasm for each gig. Great band, fantastic playing and genuinely nice guys. The support band were called Marsh Fires, I really liked what they did (the bass player was using a Fender Rumble 500 combo, sounded great)
-
Fantastic band, fantastic guys and great to have a full on rock band that is still really popular. I've played a couple of their songs in covers bands and they've been the ones that are really catchy and I've enjoyed playing them. Personally though, it's not the sort of music I choose to listen to, maybe a couple of tracks but not a whole album. Saying that, I'd still be up for doing a few of their covers, always good value.

Around 250-300 capacity (or about that).

I don't get to go to gigs very much, however, for the half dozen or so I've got to in the last year I suppose. What was noticeable was that support bands basically played to themselves and the sound engineer. When the headline band were to start playing the room fills up. To an extent I suppose it's always been so, but it seemed much more obvious to me that support bands weren't being supported.
