Good drummer and a good singer in any band. The drummer is for me , the singer for the audience...everything else can just about fluff things by and nobody tends to notice. In one of my more relaxed moments in a band, when I wasn't overly worried about a lot, the singer asked me what to do about the lead guitarist. I asked what the problem was and he replied that the lead guitarist didn't play the lead breaks to the record. And? I asked. "well, doesn't it bother you?" mr vox asked. I said it didn't because I very rarely listened to him, our drummer was bang on the button and the singing was good so the band sounded tight and the audience were happy with the warbling, no problem in my book. The guitarist could do what the hell he wanted, it was always in key so what was to worry about

I think it's a great rock album. Great playing, great songs. If anything I'd say this sounds more a band album than the first. The first album has Kotzen stamped all over it (nothing wrong with that IMO ). There's alaways going to be a lot of Kotzen in these albums though as he seems to put more into and spends more time on them. Sheehan and Portnoy are always on other projects. Kotzen has been playing figerstyle for some time now, his last 3 albums and definitely the previous Winery Dogs album. For me, combined with using a tele, really works IMO. It's less cliché. Sheehan has changed his set up lately, and this may account for being less obvious in the mix. I was fortunate to see them play last year and it was brilliant. Kotzen made my jaw literally drop, he's that good. He is rock.

Very similar issues where I live. A lot of folk/acoustic acts, punk, metal or classic rock/rock covers bands. If you're past your mid-20s originals are seemingly off limits, so you're stuck with covers bands playing very familiar sets. There's also a bit of a closed shop feel to the place.

I know of several musicians who have absolutely no interest in playing live. Their motivation and wants from music are entirely satisfied by the writing and recording process and that whole creative side. There is no right and wrong way in pursuing one's musical goals, hence those who don't want to perform live, get the seal of approval from a group of strangers watching them perform, are as valid in their aims as anyone else. There's nothing superior, in my view, about performing over someone who doesn't choose to. I personally like gigging. Rehearsals are good fun but I prefer the discipline you have to have to play live, the pressure to get it right. I'm not really in it to have my ego stroked or garner the adulation of audiences. If I gig then it has to be with the right set up. I could probably get in a gigging band tomorrow, there's an ad of a band I know looking for a bass player. However, it's not a band for me, mainly the material...I'd rather burn my favourite bass than play their set list ( and play in the places they want to play).

Buy another SVT15 and an Ampeg head. If you want the Ampeg sound, buy Ampeg. The Fender Rumbles have a lovely tone but it's not Ampeg.

Probably. It's essentially a half hearted sale driven by guilt. Guilt that you have to much and you need to move something on. It's a false economy and doomed to failure.

Same for tab, paper every time. It just doesn't convey well on a screen.

I thought it a little embarrassing. I can only imagine the fellow thought he had to pull out all the stops, given wots his name was on stage, and unfortunately it went...well, not well.

I like to have input in a band, especially over material. This may not be specific songs but on direction. If there's some aspect of the band I think it total arse then I want to be in a situation where I can say so, and that goes from songs to promotional material. If someone produces a gig poster and I think it looks like a 3 year old did it I'll say so. I'm standing out in public performing music, I don't want it looking in what would be my view, rubbish. I'm not interested in being a 'side man' or in scratch bands.

Finding people who are committed enough to turn up or learn songs is a task enough. Having them share musical taste would be a massive leap. It's a huge problem for me actually. All guitarists want to play blues rock and I'd...rather not.

I've had about 6 months out from bands. I went to a couple of practices with a new set up over the last few weeks and I'm already ready to quit. The prospect of learning another set of covers that, as the list is unveiled, I start to dislike fills me with dread. Just being in a band, playing for the sake of it, isn't enough anymore, it's got to be something that bit more. Music, especially covers band, just isn't doing it for me. There's other stuff I'm finding more rewarding. Anyone want to buy some gear?

There's nothing at all wrong with Fenders IMO apart from the price. Before I bought the Sire V7 I have now I checked out the standard Fender Jazz and in hindsight I made absolutely the right decision. I cannot see how a Std Fender Jazz is nearly twice the price of a Sire. If I were looking to spend £700-1000 on a bass, my first thought would be a Maruszczyk not a Fender. The Precision and Jazz designs are great, I love them both, I just don't need a Fender headstock to get a good one.
