  1. Probably way too many to detail, but... British blues that started in the 60s, it really makes me cringe. I think it's awful... Clapton, Green, Mayall and all the rest that followed. Howling Wolfe, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters et al that's blues. Loathe britpop with a passion. Glorified covers bands plagerising 60s and 70s material. God it was awful. Don't like The Who or Rush. The Stones (lot of time for Keith, Ronnie and Charlie) wrote a few good tunes but most of it really dull. Always thought Faces were a much better band. Jagger always sounds constipated and is midway through 'pushing one out' when singing (same goes for the guy in Reef). Coldplay = bedewttercore. Most contemporary acts are really dull. I've got teenage kids I should offended by their music not bored by it. I'm stopping now, I'm up early tomorrow 🙃
  2. For me it depends on the bass. I've got a natural finish, maple body, heavily lacquered p bass. I shouldn't like it at all, but I love it. I quite like sunburst, I've got a strat in burst with a black guard, love that one to. I love my black with tort guard jazz bass. My son has a Squier Mustang guitar in orange with a double red stripe, looks cool as. I'm currently trying to suppress GAS for a Cort A4...in matt stained red with that awesome 5 piece thru body neck. Phwoar! I'm not mad on pink. But the only finish I'd not consider is exotic woods, especially burl finishes. That's about it.
  3. BBC4 has TOTP from 1992 on...it's all bloody cover versions! What dross.
  4. I've owned only 8 in total, never more than 3 at the same time. I'm down to 2. I doubt I'd buy another bass. Quite the opposite, I'd probably sell both before even thinking of buying another. I only play if I'm in a band, but being in a band is looking ever more distant. So for me the answer is when you've got no more use for them.
  5. I use one of the wide padded Levys straps, they're the best I've found for me. I've got one of the Comfort Strapps. I didn't like the stretch of the neoprene. It didn't bounce as such, but I didn't like that the strap could stretch when playing. I wasn't overly impressed with the button holes and leather ends either, mine deteriorated quite quickly.
  6. The blues band I was in a few years back used to do this one at the beginning of the second set. We tweaked it a bit. We started with just me and vox/harp then after a couple of minutes started adding other members of the band until we were all up and playing (drums, piano, guitar).
  7. This: And some of this
  8. Thank you. It was exactly this. I trimmed the black conductive plastic screen on both ends and the cable works perfectly now. (I'm not showing you my soldering though because it's truly awful...but functional). It was a cable I'd put together myself, so a bit less speed next time and a bit more research. Thanks to everyone for your help.
  9. Cheers, I'll get the soldering iron out and 'prune' my the lead.
  10. One of my instrument cables is a bit odd. The output/signal when I use this particular lead is noticeably lower and the tone (passive bass) barely makes any difference when you rotate it. I thought it was one of my basses playing up, but it's definitely this one cable. Regards the tone it's like you've dialed back the tone control half way. Anyone come across this or know what the issue with this cable might be? (It's Van Damme cable and Neutrik jacks) Cheers.
  11. Nice looking basses. The split coil neck pick up looks quite some way from the bridge. I wonder how p bassy it'll sound.
  12. None of the options fit me at the moment. I used to gig and am looking to gig again, I rarely, so rarely it's more accurate to say never play at home if I'm not practicing material for a band...so right now my basses sit in their cases.
  13. I've got one bass, it's a Jazz style bass, it's great. And I have a backup instrument that is a Precision style bass. So, one bass and a backup instrument. The most I've ever had at one time is 3.
  14. Pure filth 🙂 Great looking bass
  15. Had vari-focal lenses for about 3hrs, they're pretty good. I don't have to take my glasses off to read anymore. 😀

  16. Baseball bat neck. Singlecut. Wood pickup covers and/or controls. Non-contoured bodies. Gold hardware. Exotic wood finishes.
  17. Hopefully no one will start looking at Blues music 🤪...what a minefield that'd be.
  18. Anyone got Samsung Plus. There are a few music station/channels one of which shows live concerts. Odd thing is though, the guide for the channel is about 2hrs out...switch on expecting to see eg. Springsteen and you'll get Hendrix
  19. Neither. Yes I find dull and uninteresting, probably sum up where 70s music went so wrong. And I really dislike The Who, so I don't listen to them or the bass parts.
  20. I don't use pedals because I haven't the faintest idea how they work. Whenever I've tried it just sounds awful, so I don't bother. I use a Zoom B1on for headphone practice at home. I use one patch I made myself, it uses an Ampeg sim and that's it. Even then it doesn't sound that great. I used to have a Boss GT6B. Looked good, but was more of a hinderence than anything. The only reason I kept it was that it had this Auto-Wah loop preset that you could just play a short riff and it'd loop itself forever. It meant the rest of my band, at the time, jammed to the loop whilst I ate the cookies and donuts. I've never understood using preamp pedals when using an amp...buy an amp that sounds like the preamp pedal maybe?
  21. I'm fairly certain that a different actual control plate won't drop in and fit properly on a V7. Sires are a bit of a pain when it comes to 3rd party parts. I've got a 3 hole plate (the ones that got used on Jazz basses with stack controls). On paper all the measurements say it should fit, but it doesn't. There's a huge gap between the plate and pickguard, if you screw it into place. Also the screw hole at the bottom end doesn't line up because the plate gets slightly rotated, when screwed into place at the pickguard end. It's very close, which is frustrating because it'd be impossible to make a new hole. I'd want to be certain that a new plate would fit properly. I don't know if maybe John East could send out a cardboard template of the J-Retro Deluxe to see if it fits, could be worth an ask.It may also be worth asking about the John East Rear Mount pre-amp...and fit that onto the existing plate.
  22. Very talented, far too young and someone who I've never heard anyone say something negative about, he was liked and loved by those he met. Ultimately, cruel and sad.
  23. My son has an Orange with red stripe Squier Mustang guitar, like the new Mustang bass, he bought it about 2 years ago. Great guitar
