1. The only time it's been a problem being in a band was when my last band started practising on Sundays during the day. I work Saturdays so Sunday is time with the kids and Mrs. Mrs Marvin hated and to be honest so did I. When the idea was raised with my current band to practice sundays during the day I simply didn't entertain it. It's all about getting the balance right. I enjoy being in a band but me personally i don't it consuming all my time and nor does the wife
2.
It's a pretty young, hip, crowd so I think they'll let us do the cooler stuff
When did they stop being cool 😯😉
3. You must play Ebony and Ivory and I Just Called To Say. The audience will never forgive you if you don't.
4. At that price it doesn't even get to free shipping
5. I don't know how Fender do it but even the v2 350w combos were plenty loud enough for a decent sized pub
6.
My main bass and amp is a Variax and an Ashdown, not so sensible now eh?
This is all too radical and dangerous for me, I'm off to reset my diods or something
7.
Spot on Your experience is different to mine, I've played with a few who are exactly the opposite. Exactly. And seriously, spelling errors, you guys got nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than spellcheck a band add for a bunch of kids?
To be honest, no. It's been a bloody miserable day and I've not been able to go anywhere because a child puked up in my car yesterday and I'm waiting for the smell to disperse and the upholstery to dry out. Picking holes in ads is about as fun as it gets on a Saturday afternoon... ...
8.
What do you do then? Don't you get bored standing at the back playing all those root notes?
I'm usually doing my impression of John Entwistle and stand with a look of disdain on my face most of the gig, and have a quick drink or something to eat
9. Looks great. You say it's leagues ahead of any Fender in terms of being solid, what in comparison to a Warwick?
10.
Usually owns the van or operates the PA or something...
Don't or can afford a van and the singer can sort out the PA in our band...it's only her going through it.
11. It's just for tone and sound shaping....eq etc before it goes to the POWER AMP!!!!
12. If only there were drugs and booze at rehearsal...it might numb the pain of having to listening to sections of my band blithering on about "what a bloody awful day/week/month/year" they're having.
13.
Quite. *Cough* Bogseat! *Cough* I think the 'problem', if you want to call it that, with the V7 headstock is that it's actually bigger than the Fender headstock, which itself is bloody massive considering what it has to do - and is really only that size because it has to hold equally bloody massive tuners. Leo had little choice in 1950 as far as tuners were concerned, and could only source ex-bass viol tuners which were huge. Remember, no-one was making third-party bass guitar tuners back then! It's only when you spend time with a Spector or other non-Fender bass that you realise tuners and headstocks just don't have to be that big nowadays to be effective and look great. Fenders and Fender clones have really huge, cartoon-like paddles when you look at them objectively.
Oh thanks, thanks a lot. There I was looking forward to seeing my new bass arrive, enjoy it's aesthetic and now I have buyers remorse and a sea of doubt...
14.
Once again! It's not just basses, either - there's a much smaller range of hardware and other bass-related periphery stuff like paint, tools, pickguards, on and on it goes. Whenever I search eBay for something - a shirt, a wig, a girdle, whatever - the ones that I like are inevitably Stateside. Yes I know, why don't I go and live in Russia if I like it so much, yadda. Thp.
Yep, spares and parts in the UK is, if you can find it, extremely expensive and that's if you can find what you want at all. See you in Russia
15. And you've got me doing is opening threads on beaten up old basses
16.
In your opinion of course
Of course, but I do have a brain the size of a planet
17. Interesting question. I just sold a 24 year old bass that had virtually no 'road wear' at all, so who knows
18. I've never liked the G&L headstock, so in comparison the V7 is a lot better. I don't know what's going on with the D Lakin headstocks. They're not hideous, but look like a poor stab at sort of emulating the very early Fender head and sort of not really getting there
19. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/ampeg-scr-di-bass-di-with-scrambler-overdrive-bass-preamp It'd be very tempting if this is the price
20.
I'd have to get a stealth black carrier bag for the Bongo, don't want it to clash with the finish!
Excellent plan In all seriousness, the V7 headstock is not it's most endearing feature.
21. You could always put a carrier bag over the headstock?
22. Pretty much. I've just been comparing the US and Uk Ibanez sites and once again we seem to lose out. Regards the Talman. More colours in the US, only black and burst here. And in the US there is the Talman 300 model which has a double J pickup at the bridge. I was going to maybe save up to get one of the higher end SR basses but as they only have the wood finishes available in Europe I've gone for something completely different and not Ibanez.
23.
Sorry, please avoid religion.
Quite, most religious debates have large holes in them
24. I'm ever so slightly OCD, so I like my new basses to be new and shinny. Although to clarify, the paintwork I'm not too bad about, a bit of sanding or a few dings that's ok, if the bass was right for. It's the hardware. When I see some of the relics and all that grime and dirt and rust on the chrome etc...I just want to get a pot of brasso out and give them a good clean. They look like you might catch dysentery or something equally horrid. I didn't realise until recently that Rory Gallagher's guitar looked like it did due to a rare condition. When he perspired, which he did a bit, his sweat was a lot more acidic than most other peoples and it gradually weakened the paint and it came off. Well, that's what his brother said in an interview. Who knows.
