On this occasion I kept the bass identification to myself :-)
Very wise
I was there last night as well - Mrs C is a big fan. Not my cup of tea but, as stated above, they put on a very good show and the front man's banter was excellent. Bassist (geek alert) played a black Fender Jazz mainly but a black Jack Casady appeared for a song or two
Did you mention what basses were being used to Mrs C? And if so did she reply with a "oh, good grief! ", in a slightly exasperated manner? Because that's what Mrs Marvin would have done if I'd pointed such a thing out
We know that Mr West is the 'biggest rock star on the planet' because he has been described as such by... errm... himself. http://entertainment...-on-the-planet/
Phew! That's cleared that up then. Being slightly more serious, I like what Shirley Manson from Garbage said about the whole thing.
"Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own".
I've got an SR300. Band mates can't believe how little I paid for it BRAND NEW. It's just a great bass...shame the 2nd hand values suck. They seem to lose value quicker than Gary Glitter LP's
The only thing that's budget about this bass is the price. If this bass was made in the USA or the UK it would cost three times what it costs now. I have a 5 string and every one who has seen it is blown away by the overall qaulity just as I was and the pre if sold alone in the states or the UK would not be cheap. Sire endorser.
This may seem an odd question but, how much do they weigh? I can't find any mention of weight on the Sire site. I am sorely tempted. The spec seems great for the price -
Demographics...basically octogenarians don't frequent pubs, don't like anything but James Last - hence a real lack of venues, pubs etc.

Out of a whole set, maybe one or two will be on a playlist. Generally, I don't want to be playing what's on my playlists, iPod or whatever...partly because very few people would want to listen to it . But also, I don't want to get bored of the music I love, I don't want to be listening to it time and time again.

I've never been able to reach a conclusion as to the merits or otherwise of Bouncy Knowles's singing capability. Studio recordings - well, lets be honest, totally unreliable. As for the live performances on the telly box she's always sounded as if she's exhausted and probably just run a marathon. I do sometimes think that if perhaps she was a bit rounder, maybe like a couple of stone on the heavier side then no one would give her the time of day :/

Apologies to all, I didn't mean to make this an extension of the gigs forum! As you were, etc. etc.
Absolutely shameless. tut tut
One Nickelback song vs. every other Nickelback song
vs every post grunge song. THEY ALL SOUND THE BLOODY SAME!!!
I liked his anti-bling thing, about diamonds killing people and blingy rappers need to stop wearing them.
... and then went on to juxtapose this with in an album's worth of duets with Jay-Z, where they did a very good US hip hop style of Harry Enfield's 'Loadsamoney!!!'...but without the irony. Pure genius

Kayne West should be made to apply for a permit to be breathing oxygen...
-
It's a very nice looking bass. I think it's great you've found a very playable instrument that you like using for so little. Tell others it's a custom build if you want, they won't know

I've bought several items from them, one of them was a combo. Delivery was fast, I like the option of having some choice over delivery date on their site. I had to return a stand once (it was as the manufacturers description so not G4M's fault), had no problems. I'd buy from them again.

If there were more Pro/Name Bassists on BC ..
Marvin replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Yes but not all for the same reason. What I remember is (hopefully correctly) .. I remember the Mani thread, IIRC there were some dozy questions, lots of welcomes, not a lot useful, just, I love me Rickenbackers. Yolanda Charles probably got inundated, as I imagine Mani did. Probably a ton of PMs. Janek had too many spats and then had the piss taken excessively by tBBC. Guy P was referred to in an anecdote about telling some iffy jokes and people jumped on the bandwagon. Vail Johnson (who virtually no-one here had heard of, think I remember reading about him in '80s US guitar mags, completely forgotten about him though) made a very bold statement and got pounced on, fairly IMO but a bit too viciously. Dunno what's happened to Jerry Scheff, but he refuted HJ's neggy book review and they became friendly. Lemmy called discreet a w***er and couldn't believe the tornado-level backlash and got frightened off .. Who else has been on here? What have we learned from them?
Wasn't aware of the last one, but the others are as I remember them...oh, and I've not the faintest idea who Jerry Scheff is Celeb members tend to see the site turn into the bass worlds very own Hello magazine online when it's known who they are...odd considering -

With regards gear, if we took the lead from PRO players we'd all be playing P basses through Ashdown rigs :/ -
.... but I am rambling a bit, Lol.
Yep

Blimey, that was a miserable 3 pages to read I tend to be able to scan over, skip over anything on Basschat that doesn't interest me and in no way feel badgered to participate in anything. I don't vote and very rarely listen to the Comp competition because the genres don't really do it for me...that's just a matter of personal taste...I'm also very narrow minded musically

Excellent bass player and very influential...but maybe some people have confused best with most popular

Alright Now - What do you do in the verses?
Marvin replied to allighatt0r's topic in General Discussion
I think we have enough dissenters to start a 'NOT ALL RIGHT NOW!' campaign... I'll get the t-shirts done.
You have my address...I'll send a cheque. I'll have 2 please -
Alright Now - What do you do in the verses?
Marvin replied to allighatt0r's topic in General Discussion
Do nothing. Any bass who even looks like they're going to play a note in the verse should be publicly ridiculed. I actually left a band because they wouldn't drop it from the set list
