Phwoaar, eh? Eh? Anyway, back on topic - P Bass or StingRay..? Neither, but if forced to make a decision... P BASS!!
That's not something I ever thought I'd see you say
I'm lost. What is a shame?
Phew, thought it was only me...

Anyway, back on topic. The singer in my last band was absolutely brilliant. She had a great voice and not even at rehearsal did she bring any sheets with lyrics on...on top of that she was playing guitar and had to learn all those parts as well. I was very impressed as every other singer seems to use a stand etc. However, I have watched pub bands where the singer has a stand and they've still been great entertainment
ha oh right,
It wasn't that funny
Well, they all sound pretty flimsy excuses to me

If I offered you a gig for thursday night, 35 songs, 15 you know, 10 you have heard before, 10 are totally new to you and half of the set is in a different key to the record could you do it without any notes at all? Good on you if you can but some people think its ok to take 6 months to learn 20 songs to start a band up with a weekly practice and even then might use notes so I just dont see the problem. Fwiw my own stand has never left the house.
It were a joke, if a flimsy one... COAT ON AND AWAY WE GO
Its likely that a pro function band will have more deps both more often and more of them at once, a band gigging all year round maybe 3 times a week will have people off sick, maternity leave, holidays, work with other bands etc just like us weekend warriors do with our regular jobs, I dont need a set of instructions for my day job but someone bought in to cover my job would for some parts of it, a dep glued to a chart for Mustang Sally might not be the go to guy I agree. The other thing is the fact they are more likely to be playing up to date music almost as quick as it hits the charts (excuse the pun) , or themed music or requested music for first dances etc which are often not known songs worth learning for the regular set. I'm sure there are other good reasons I've missed?
Well, they all sound pretty flimsy excuses to me

Why are function bands let off the hook?
Does anyone know how these newer, three band e.q SR300's compare in sound to the previous "style sweeper" e.q.? I loved the feel ( weight ) and skinny neck on my SR300, but could never quite get a sound I loved from the style sweeper, I think the newer e.q , being somewhat simpler, might suit me better, anyone had both types to compare? Absolutely LOVE that maple and blue, by the way!!!!
That is the only niggle I have about mine is the 'style sweep'. I did consider getting a different pre-amp put in at one point...but then I bought another bass and blew all my savings
-
Some bands use them around here, some not. It doesn't seem to have cause any negative impressions with the audiences. The only time it niggles me is if the singer has had a pop at the rest of the band for not learning their parts...then I tend to stare sternly at their music stand with all the words there for them, hmmmm

Lovely bass. I don't think I'll ever sell mine. staggering how Ibanez make a bass this good for such little money

Just as I suspected, it's a black box

Simply trying to get potential band members to think of doing something different is a monumental task. All I hear is 'we must include the crowd pleasers'...at which point my heart sinks and I tend to walk. It's either that or suggestions so obscure even the original artist would struggle remember they recorded it. Classic rock and indie standards are all they're interested in

Sad news. Ready the obit, I loved the term 'Jazzberries' he used. -
Don't forget Lidl. I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the guitars for the kids. http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?id=436

technique for muting the open strings when playing fast octaves
Marvin replied to Diablo's topic in General Discussion
I don't anchor my thumb permanently on the pick up so as I go to pluck the A my thumb has dropped to the E, muting it... my plucking finger, like others have said, will also come to stop on the E. -
Saw them play 20 odd years ago at The Lemon Grove in Exeter. They were supported by Dodgy. An excellent night, if a little odd...but the oddness was nothing to do with the band
Oh dear, I try to avoid my real life on here but I'm afraid I'm an ex HMC&E VAT man. So here goes .............. Thomann will not charge VAT when provided with a genuine UK VAT number (they can check VAT numbers so don't bother trying to use Boots). What should happen is that the UK customer will charge themselves acquisition VAT at 20% on their next VAT return. Provided the bass has been acquired for use in their business. For those who don't remember that Thomann submit a declaration which shows the VAT number of the recipient and so they can check your box 2 entry to make sure you account for it. If you do not have a VAT number Thomann will charge you German VAT. The process combats fraud because the (VAT registered) recipient has nothing to gain by not accounting for the VAT - it's almost always fully deductible. The non-registered customer pays VAT as you would in any shop. By the way, the VAT registered person not buying for use in their business shouldn't provide their VAT number and they'd be charged German VAT also. I'm get my coat.
Burn him!!!! Just kidding
Don't worry - guitarists never listen to what the bass is doing anyway... tru, dat.
It is entirely true...it's no joke.

Bands, don't talk to me about bands.... Have fun, that's the main thing.
Sure, if you don't mind listening to my crappy technique, fret buzz, squeaking and bum notes!
I do wish you'd stop copying me and get your own style
