All previous bands I've been in there's always been someone who, although not really a band leader, will push what they want onto the list - not always a success. I'm currently starting with a new band and was quite surprised when I rejected about 6 songs on the list and they all went "Ok, that's fine" I think everyone has to be happy with what they're being asked to play. That doesn't necessarily mean they have to actually have had to have been a fan of the song but see that it works for the band. There's stuff I play that I wouldn't ever listen to at home but will play in a band because it clearly works.

The basses i want just tend to be active. I don't fiddle with the onboard pre amp, I tend to leave it flat and adjust my eq unit in my rack. Very occasionally I'll tweak the OBP, maybe for a little treble boost during a section of a song but that's it.

I use a racked DBX166. I use it soley as an effect and tone changer and not to iron out my crap technique.

I use right angled in my Precision and Yamaha and straight in my Ibanez as it has a strat style input.

I'd like to be in a band that doesn't implode after one gig

The one thing I do loathe are band members who insist on playing personal favourites, it's a recipe for disaster. Most of the time these favourites fail in my experience...and leave the person who suggested them wishing they hadn't because they sound so different. For me it's about finding songs that people will know, that the band can play really well and not having much overlap with other bands in the area you're playing.

Victor Wooten appears on their site and is quoted as saying "Incredible". That's good enough for me. Although I'm not entirely sure what it is he's saying is incredible though

[/quote] And the books can be as bad as some online tabs...bits missing, wrong key etc etc. The big publishers are quite bad for it. Stuart Clayton and his Bassline Publishing books are bang on though, others can be very poor in comparison.

The tab looks to give the right line for the song...there are little variations and passing notes on occasion but the tab is the gist of it.

I've never owned any lightweight gear, never had the money for it. I've got a s/h 410 that isn't light and a rack mounted amp. I'm lucky at the moment that our drummers husband lends a hand with moving gear about. Although to be honest even at 35kg, I don't actually find my 410 that much of an issue. Forgot to add, it all sounded damned lovely last night when my band practiced in a large village hall

Any musician that has to be loud to get 'their tone' has bought the wrong gear. Apparently the reason for using large valve amps, say 100w plus is you still get a nice clean tone at what a guitarist would consider a gigging volume. Any smaller and it breaks up at too low a volume. That's what a guitarist told me, and who am I to disagree I'm just a bass player. One guy I was in a band with had one of those blackstar 60w 212 combos. Made your ears bleed on 2
