1. OBBM for me, instrument and speaker cables.
2. Simply trying to get potential band members to think of doing something different is a monumental task. All I hear is 'we must include the crowd pleasers'...at which point my heart sinks and I tend to walk. It's either that or suggestions so obscure even the original artist would struggle remember they recorded it. Classic rock and indie standards are all they're interested in
3. Sad news. Ready the obit, I loved the term 'Jazzberries' he used.
4. Don't forget Lidl. I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the guitars for the kids. http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?id=436
5. I don't anchor my thumb permanently on the pick up so as I go to pluck the A my thumb has dropped to the E, muting it... my plucking finger, like others have said, will also come to stop on the E.
6. Saw them play 20 odd years ago at The Lemon Grove in Exeter. They were supported by Dodgy. An excellent night, if a little odd...but the oddness was nothing to do with the band
7.
Oh dear, I try to avoid my real life on here but I'm afraid I'm an ex HMC&E VAT man. So here goes .............. Thomann will not charge VAT when provided with a genuine UK VAT number (they can check VAT numbers so don't bother trying to use Boots). What should happen is that the UK customer will charge themselves acquisition VAT at 20% on their next VAT return. Provided the bass has been acquired for use in their business. For those who don't remember that Thomann submit a declaration which shows the VAT number of the recipient and so they can check your box 2 entry to make sure you account for it. If you do not have a VAT number Thomann will charge you German VAT. The process combats fraud because the (VAT registered) recipient has nothing to gain by not accounting for the VAT - it's almost always fully deductible. The non-registered customer pays VAT as you would in any shop. By the way, the VAT registered person not buying for use in their business shouldn't provide their VAT number and they'd be charged German VAT also. I'm get my coat.
Burn him!!!! Just kidding
8.
Don't worry - guitarists never listen to what the bass is doing anyway... tru, dat.
It is entirely true...it's no joke.
9. Bands, don't talk to me about bands.... Have fun, that's the main thing.
10.
Sure, if you don't mind listening to my crappy technique, fret buzz, squeaking and bum notes!
I do wish you'd stop copying me and get your own style
11.
Don't worry, they're all Photoshopped. It doesn't look like that really.
It's actually white with a maple neck isn't it Great looking bass....
12. The band may have been able to do things differently in order to have lost less/break even or maybe see a small profit. However, what it showed is what I've read elsewhere, touring is very expensive. The only people making money from tours are the ones who were successful under the old model. For new bands, this supposed new model of making anything from tours is a myth. This becomes an even bigger problem if your fan base is predominantly abroad. The economics of touring abroad and be profitable for new bands....?
13. There seems to be a trend lately with people I've been playing with not to wear any shoes...it's not something that sits well with me so I've tended to move on :/
14. The best bargains are on basschat... Every day is Black Friday.
15.
I don't need to tune my bass - the shop did it for me when I bought it
It is a national scandal how many basses, neigh instruments, are clearly being sold out of tune.
16. People always look stunned when I tell them how much these basses are. They expect them to be a lot more expensive
17. Lovely looking bass. Although I'm biased, I've got a TRBX504 in the black, and it's my go to bass
18. Threads like this often flounder
19. When I click on the link the page says they don't have it in stock. That might be because Ampeg have revamped the range and these older ones may no longer be available...they now look fugly
20. Just make sure the feet are firmly secured
21.
I didn't SAY I don't like Fenders, I just said there are better basses out there!
I was simply pointing out that if you alligned them vertically you'd get much better dispersion...
22. I'm shocked that so many of you are watching commercial television...you uncouth lot.
23.
Has anyone actually read what the OP wrote? He's not asking you to answer here, but to PM or email him ...
Nobody reads anything properly, and it's not just kids
24.
Go and see some new bands at small (less than 500 capacity) venues and you'll find the bass sound far more satisfactory.
I only get to gigs at smaller venues and 9 times out of 10 the sound is dreadful. In the last 12 months I'd say only 2 bands I've seen had a good sound and that was probably explained by the fact they brought their own engineers. Otherwise it's the usual problems of poor mixes, crap PA's etc etc...and most new bands that have a guitarist and drummer in them still seem to think they have to play at volumes to make the audiences ears start to bleed.
