At nearly every pub, club and festival the line up seem to exist almost entirely of solo acoustic acts and general acoustic music...oh, and that faux folk music stuff. The first 8 or so songs is fine (the faux folk music I do not like at all though) but after that I need something LOUD and DISTORTED and IN MY FACE!!!!!! ....or funky, groovy...just something. Anyway, I've got that off my chest, I'm off to mow the lawn and wash the car...it is sunday after all.

The difference in volume between a 4ohm and 8ohm cabis negligible, I tried it a few weeks back. I took my 4ohm cab to practice and in the practice room is an 8ohm and I thought I'd try them both out. No real noticeable diffrence, I didn't touch the volume at all and the 8ohm was fine. When I plugged into the 810 in the practice room, the difference in volume was very noticeable

I'd just like to point out that Sandra Marvin is not a relative of mine, so please don't ask me for autographs etc. Ta

It was a ref to the drummer swishing his locks around There aren't many bands that interest me at this festival tbh

I think the 'drummer at the wrong gig' chap is playing for Paramore. Hmmm

I have very little motivation to play if I'm not in a band. It gives me a goal and focus, also it's more dynamic which I find more fun. However, bands tend to attract a disproportionate number of pains in the arse which takes the shine off them more often than not. Catch22

I must have seen Dave Vader play live at some point way back when... problem is that 20 years ago I used to get so totally drunk a lot t the time I'd even forget where I lived. :/ Otherwise, I've not seen any Basschatters playing in their respective ensembles. Actually it's becoming quite rare to see any bass players let loose on the public around here...it's all solo acoustic acts
Just had a quick view/listen. Unfortunately, at least for me, the rest of the music, particularly the guitar, was so loud I struggled to discern any difference in the tone of the cabinets
Forward further into the video, he plays the bass with no backing.
Why is it always drummers that are so hard to find? far fewer people must play drums than other instruments or it wouldn't be so difficult to find a good one....
I can find drummers at the drop of a hat, it's guitarists and vocalists in particular I can never find.

If the constant grumbling about poor attendances at gigs are anything to go by, then the yuuf in this area are definitely not interested in music. Although to be fair gigs are basically a solo artist with an acoustic guitar having a whinge... which is why I don't go to gigs much either

I see that Stu Hamm frequents this particular Facebook group...and Brad Houser who was in Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians
Oh dear you lot do realise your parents said all this when you were young! It was all fields around here, bag of chips was ten pence, waggon wheels were as big as your head etc etc etc
Wagon Wheels and Farleys Rusks are most definitely smaller! They were bigger than my hand when I was a kid. NOW! Pfft, barely the size of my palm.
noted, but taking you seriously anyway, my pub crawls these days are always looking for business. I never drink in a pub that doesn't do live music, and I always look for an opportunity to chat up a landlord. That means I need access to the band's website, the pub's website, and Lemonrock - not to mention Google Maps. Five years ago it would never have occurred to me to take a notebook or a laptop to the pub with me. Now I never go out without one.
You cheap tart!

Ibanez SR series: anyone tried a pickup modification?
Marvin replied to Spoombung's topic in Bass Guitars
Pick up wise, in the standard marks I think it's only the Bartonlini pick ups and Ibanez's own that'll fit. A new set of Bartolini's will cost about £220...which if you own an SR300 is almost as much as the bass itself I'd look at a different pre amp. -
One support slot several weeks ago... good gig, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I fell out with the guitarist and singer and quit the band. I feel somewhat vindicated as to my decision from feedback from others, but it still means no band at the moment. Not being in a band has freed up my summer...I suppose.

Ibanez SR series: anyone tried a pickup modification?

It seems incredibly difficult to find replacement pick ups. Because they're not p, j or mm it's nigh on impossible. -

I really like The Faces and think they are very much over looked... Just wish I'd been old enough to see them at their peak -
Fender Jazz and Fender Precision - Mexican or American?
I'm going to be bold and say that Yamaha make the best Precision basses.
I didn't see that coming The world might have just flipped on its axis, I'll just check -
I questioned my want for 'better' gear recently when I borrowed the headline bands gear. Behringer amp and the most roadworn 112 I've seen . It sounded good and the band are booked to be on Jules Holland next year. Gear is a means of playing, doesn't matter what it is as long as it does the job
Here's one for the stack fans.. Even Lady Bones stuck her head round the door and commented on how nice it sounded. Just to put this in perspective, when we visited the Bass Doc at New Year, the only thing she remembers was the fact that Howard had a pink Xmas cake. Everything else just passed her by. I couldn't remember Howard even had a Xmas cake, let alone what colour it was.
Nice. Like the Purple Chilli cab as well...lurvley.
I was on the BIMM Summer School in Bristol this week as the only bass player and I was lucky enough to have a two hour one to one with Yolanda who helped me learn a song for the afternoon, suggested some learning techniques for 16ths and dead notes and writing out song structures , got her Dimension out to demonstrate, watched me play in 3 Bands in the afternoon , jumped on stage to play with the others and said she liked my attitude to Bass and learning. She even bit off some of her nails so she could demonstrate on her bass. A lovely gracious lady with awesome chops.
I'm deeply envious. Sounds fantastic
Sooner or later it will descend into "my dad is bigger than yours!"
Mine isn't, he's only 5'7"...
