1. Once upon a time it was the gear to aspire to own, it was everywhere. Now...just another player. Fashions and fads aside, they just seem to be chucking out, heavy and expensive gear. now..that no one wants? No innovation etc. I'm surprised they're still going to be honest.
2. I've found there to be a lot of well repeated opinions on BC that don't seem to hold true, for me anyway. Certain brands that have 100% QC that I've found wanting and vice versa. What brands sound like what etc. Ashdown are a good example. Continually slated for sounding woolly or as if someone is holding a blanket to the cab...I used one, an 810, the other day and thought it sounded very articulate. It was clear and well defined in the band mix. I'd certainly not be put of the brand. I've also got mates who use them. My opinion tends to change a lot. In the practice room my band uses there is a Hartke 410XL. At first I really liked it, however, as time has gone on I have come to really dislike it. It's to harsh sounding for me and my band. I tend to try and use or hear gear, then make my mind up now Peavey gear is still sh*t though, having owned some
3. I think if I were Ampeg I'd go back and look to redesign the 'outside'. The Rumble series from Fender is a lot more desirable.
4. Sell the entire rig and spend the next, well it could take years to be honest, whatever, swaping and trading on Basschat to find that sound. In the end you will have tried virtually all combinations of amp and cab. This is what the basschat marketplace relies upon and without it basschat itself would die.
5. You need a nice Ampeg 410, a 4 ohm one...like what I have got
6.
Ooh God, that's indecent! Put it away!
It's these bloody button flies, they're murder...oh sorry, tangent and so on....
7. Behold the shinny shinny...thing http://www.mansons.co.uk/product/preowned-ampeg-svt-cl-6314 I suppose you could hope they haven't updated their webstie lately and it's already sold, thus ensuring you don't need to worry when your other half reaches for...anything with a blade
8. Just imagine if you had to park in King William St or Howell Road car park, that's an almighty long walk for a man carrying a heavy valve amp ...maybe not too bad if you take a wheel barrow I suppose
9. It'll be hell getting it from the shop to the car remember. Afterall, there are no car parks near Mansons...just saying. And it's double yellows all the way down that street, and then there are the buses...they're not fussy about clipping an inappropriately parked car...
10. Signed. There should be a special clause if the planning is granted...any new residents of the flats, who complain about any noise from the Fleece, should be placed in stocks outside the venue with a sign around them saying 'please throw rotten fruit at me as I am stupid'. If you buy/live in a new residence next to an established venue, tough. It really boils my urine this sort of thing.
11. I don't like the styling at all. The control panels look like something from a 90s Peavey.
12. Oh good grief, you're turning into a ravaging GAS animal!!
13. They're all good. The SR300 is a heap load of bass for the money, I think they're about £245 new. The 370, you're paying a little bit more for a nicer paint finish, the hardware and pickups are the same as the 300. I've an older 300, it's a great bass. The 500 has better pickups, IMO. Slightly different hardware, but not much in that really. And it's made out of more expensive woods. If they did the 300 with the Bart pickups from the 500...for about£3-350, that would be a knock out bass.
14.
Not for me 810s.... The Aguilar one apperantly weighs 184lb thats over 13 stone....
Perhaps they put a concrete block on them like they do in washing machines?
15. I'll take a good band playing the music I want to hear above all else...
16.
I would certainly think so, as long as you have a reasonably powerful amp, say 400 or 500 Watts would be plenty. When I get gigging again, I'm hoping my 2 X Mi10s and my MiBass 2.0 head will keep up in a similar setting, if not I'll move them out for the 12s Eude
Cheers. I've got a 300w head, but it puts out a lot, it's definitely loud . Just have to persuade the Exchequer of the Household now...
17. Would 2 Mi12's keep up with a drummer and two guitarists? Rock covers band sort of thing, average volume for a band - we don't make ears bleed put it that way
18. Doc Martin boots used to be relatively cheap, all they seem to have done is cashed in on the brand. As for walking in them... they last so long because you can't walk far in them.
19.
But that's exactly why they rate Barefaced so highly, don't you see? Barefaced don't place much weight.
http://gifb.in/QTBV
20. Says they're wonderfully well made and sound great...and that's the Gen2 cabs not the new ones. (I don't own a BF cab btw) http://www.guitar-bass.net/gear/barefaced-midget-t-review/
21. The last 3 set ups I've used have all had 10's in them (a Fender Rumble 410, a Hartke 410XL and an Ampeg 410BHLF)...they all sounded different, despite using the same amp/rack set up. The Ampeg is mine and the Hartke the cab in the practice room my band uses the Rumble from a different practice room again, and they are poles apart.
22.
What, all sweaty and wrinkly?

23.
I don't get it at all - I have no desire whatsoever to either watch clips of other people playing bass or to film myself playing & put it on YouTube or whatever. It all seems a bit w***y & egotistical to me. I don't get why people would want to seek praise and/or acceptance from a bunch of people they don't know.
Aren't there elements of all that in doing a gig though?
24.
Glad they do, it's another useful tool in learning stuff I might need for a gig. I never used to bother looking at them but I've actually found watching someone else play lines I've needed to learn recently has speeded up my getting to grips with them. I don't much care whether they are doing it as a show reel, ego boost or genuinely want to help others learn the lines, its just another learning resource for me.
Yes, although I wish some would remember to turn a little toward the camera so the fretting hand can be seen clearly...dashed annoying when half the fretboard isn't in shot.
