Our drummer posed the same question a few weeks ago. She thought we needed a PRS licence ,as when she was looking for venues for her wedding, one place told her a live band would need a licence. Clearly the venue wasn't licenced so even a disco would have problems. Venue should be licenced.

The Edge doesn't look like a man who uses iPad effects to be honest :/ Regards lightweight gear, most guitarists seem to be stubbornly sticking with 'tradition' and if Fender wanted pointers on lightweight gear then they had Genz Benz to turn to...which they got rid off. Genz Benz, imo, had the potential to become a real front runner in bass amplification...but again it doesn't seem Fender knew what to do with it. In the end we've got a few nice bits chucked in the new Rumble amps (I'll add I quite like them), but there was so much more potential. As for the cabs, meh! A 410 and a 115, hardly groundbreaking. I don't see a 'guitarist' who is mainly noted for using sizeable rack units driving forward an innovation for us bass players.

I've never owned a Trace rig, but I'd like to see them back in the game as it were. I do feel they're not stay up with their competitors. I'm not sure where this wooly sound tag comes from, Doug Wimbish never sounds wooly and he's played through TE rigs for years.

I have a 15 band eq in my rack and will adjust to suit the room I'm playing in. There's a certain sound that fits with the band I play, however it still means that I'll have to tweak the graphic to get it. We've just changed rehearsal rooms and that required a noticeable shift in eq to get my bass sounding good in the mix.

Apparently according to a statement their role will be to help Fender with 'fan engagement'. I assume they mean fans of Fender, afterall I would say U2 are very popular with the non-instrument buying public, I've yet to get the feeling that they have inspired hoards of musicians (I've never met anyone who has said that and the pages here aren't filled with people saying 'I started playing bass when I heard Adam Clayton). They fan engagement angle seems to be back firing already. The announcement itself is going down badly if comments on Fender's social media pages are to go by. Someone wrote on the web somewhere that Fender is a heritage brand...these appointments don't seem to fit with that. Branding is everything, and there will be people who don't want to buy a product that's associated with a certain band quite so closely.

They haven't had a long term relationship with the brand that Steve Harris has had, for example. Sig models don't really make them Fender people through and through.

A poor move by a company that appears to be in trouble. They have a popular, high profile brand but don't seem to know how to make the most of it. I can't see how bringing in 2 people that could potentially put people off the brand and aren't synonymous with the company will help.

I'm still waiting for Oxford Bags to come back into fashion, my wardrobe is burst to brimming with them :/

I've found there to be a lot of well repeated opinions on BC that don't seem to hold true, for me anyway. Certain brands that have 100% QC that I've found wanting and vice versa. What brands sound like what etc. Ashdown are a good example. Continually slated for sounding woolly or as if someone is holding a blanket to the cab...I used one, an 810, the other day and thought it sounded very articulate. It was clear and well defined in the band mix. I'd certainly not be put of the brand. I've also got mates who use them. My opinion tends to change a lot. In the practice room my band uses there is a Hartke 410XL. At first I really liked it, however, as time has gone on I have come to really dislike it. It's to harsh sounding for me and my band. I think if I were Ampeg I'd go back and look to redesign the 'outside'. The Rumble series from Fender is a lot more desirable.

Sell the entire rig and spend the next, well it could take years to be honest, whatever, swaping and trading on Basschat to find that sound. In the end you will have tried virtually all combinations of amp and cab. This is what the basschat marketplace relies upon and without it basschat itself would die.

You need a nice Ampeg 410, a 4 ohm one...like what I have got

It'll be hell getting it from the shop to the car remember. Afterall, there are no car parks near Mansons...just saying. And it's double yellows all the way down that street, and then there are the buses...they're not fussy about clipping an inappropriately parked car...

There should be a special clause if the planning is granted...any new residents of the flats, who complain about any noise from the Fleece, should be placed in stocks outside the venue with a sign around them saying 'please throw rotten fruit at me as I am stupid'. If you buy/live in a new residence next to an established venue, tough. It really boils my urine this sort of thing.
