1. I'm a bit OCD and must have the same strings on my basses. My p bass is currently strung with 4 E strings, the Yamaha with 4 A's and the Ibanez with 4 D's... It does mean I now have 4 G strings though
2.
If you can bear to use eaby. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=rack+mount&_osacat=23789&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.Xrack+mount+ears&_nkw=rack+mount+ears&_sacat=23789
If the gent I'm thinking if is unable to help then this will be my next option, thanks.
3.
Sounds promising. Good luck!
cheers
4. I've never seen BNH live but think Levy is a great bass player. I'm often surprised by how overlooked he is.
5.
19-inch rack blanking panels are widely available online in various 'U' sizes and will have the required rack-mounting screw-holes already punched out. It would be fairly easy to cut one of these in half and then bend each piece as required for the width of the amp. Drill the necessary amp-mounting holes and the job's a good'un. Try not to get a too high-quality blanking panel as these may be rather thick and not easy to cleanly bend without a sheet metal press. Alternatively, search for a metal fabrication business in a local industrial estate and pop along with the two pieces of panel with the required line of the bend clearly marked. Ask nicely and you'll probably find they'll make a nice sharp bend for you for nothing, but give them a fiver anyway. If you have marked the required drill holes they'll probably do that for you as well. This sort of approach works best with very small companies rather than the bigger ones. Basically, you need the sort of place where you can walk directly into the workshop, not a carpeted office with the workshop out the back.
I hadn't thought of that, I know just the chap. Thank you
6. I've never used the tweeters on my cabs, I've never found it necessary. There is plenty if 'top' in my current cab without turning the tweeter on. Actually, I've never liked using tweeters in or out of the mix, I just think the sound losses it's punch.
7.
Even more bizarrely the 2nd band regularly re-tweet stuff from the first band - really very odd indeed!
All sounds a bit creepy to be honest.
8. I want to put my GK Backline600 in a rack. Are there any alternatives to buying the genuine GKb rack ears? Maybe some sort of universal fitting? The genuine GK ears are £40, which seems quite a bit for some bent steel with some holes drilled in them. Cheers
9. I seriously thought about an LH but the mid scoop bias would be no good for me. My sound is so mid heavy it'd more appropriate to get one of the HA range. Wotten uses the hydrive range I think.
10.
Confusion, confusion!!
The thread is about barefaced, the Simplexx cabs are designed by Bill Fitzmaurice and are nothing to do with barefaced. I wasn't sure why you referenced the Simplexx...
11.
What are your feelings about BF cabs? I don't know but I've just checked out his new Simplexx cabs.
What have barefaced got to do with the new BFM designs?
12.
Just what it says.
You're original post didn't say anything as you didn't qualify the statement.
13.
I see that these are up to his usual standard.
Meaning what?
14. I've spent a little time on Bill's site looking at these after I got the email about them. They do seem a very tempting opportunity . The great thing about BFM plans is they are very detailed and explained very well.
15. I'm never happy, full stop.
16. I'd hoped that Ampeg had sorted out the reliability issues with these amps as I was going to consider one, however, I think I'll steer clear
17.
Yep, 'convenience pricing' in action. Buy the cheaper CD only and spend 5-10 minutes ripping to an MP3 or, basically, pay a premium for someone else to do the ripping for you. No rights and wrongs really, just consumer choice.
You're not paying a premium. The CD's I bought were either the same price or more expensive elsewhere. Any album you buy from Amazon now gets put into a cloud service from which you can stream and/or download.
18. The Ashdown will only be ok as long as the band is fairly quiet. I've seen them used in two instances...one a folky pop band where it held it's own. In the other it was in a rock/punk band with 2 guitarists...it was useless and you couldn't hear it at all. In part it was due to the bass player had set his tone in competition with the guitarists but still. At that same event I used a Markbass 210 which I think could chuck out about 400w max, master was at 2 and kicked butt A 350w 210 combo is the min I'd go for.
19. I think it's brilliant The last few albums I've bought have been from Amazon and thought it odd that you get a free MP3 download. However, it suits me down to the ground as I like to listen to the CD at home and the MP3 I can download straight to my iTunes for out and about without the faff off having to import a CD.
20. Billy Sheehan (as already alluded to by Molan) splits has a different signal path for his neck and split coil pickups. He uses pretty much off the shelve gear as well. The neck pick up he puts through a Hartke LH1000 into a Hartke AK115, this is for his LOW end. The split coil goes through a Hartke HA5500 into a Hartke AK410 for his high end, distortion and other stuff. Sounds pretty good to me
21.
I thought you were into checks??
I personally like all East Europeans...
22. I watched the Billy Sheehan vid over the weekend. Found it really inspiring, a well spent hour and 20 mins.
23. Could be the output from your phone, it might have a volume limiter on it??? Maybe? Just guessing.
24. Cheese is the main ingredient.
25. They both look vile...the only thing that would make them look even worse would be gold hardware. What's with the stripe on the body?
