1.
My 69er has a strap handle on the top which I though at first was a bit strange but as the cab is so light, it makes the cab easy to lift single handed. Alex put the side handles in upside down, doesn't bother me but it sure bothers my guitarist. My major concern is our drummer though, he doesn't give a sh*t about anyone's gear, not even his own, so we tend to keep gear that we care about away from him because he will break it. He's often been heard to say, don't tell me how to carry things, I worked for Pickfords. Twat!
This is a brilliant post
2. I'm sh*t, I know I'm sh*t, that's all I need to know...
3.
I think you're confusing this with the CV '60s jazz which is white with a tort pick guard. The 4 string version of the 70s VM jazz bass is white and comes with a black pick guard.
I was confusing it with the VM Jazz with the rosewood neck. That has the tort pg. 4.
It certainly does, and I've ordered one from TBD for my BD Custom P. Pics to come.
How many pg's will that be for the Custom P? Just asking
5. The 4 string of this has got a tort pg...and looks bloody lovely. Great looking bass the 5, especially for the money.
6.
[sup]I owned one of these last year, asked the Bass Doc to make me up a 3-ply BWB scratch guard and away i went...[/sup] [sup]Great bass, i picked mine up 2nd hand at the Bay and was really, really pleased with it. Apart from the neck was like a damn banana!![/sup] [sup]Sold it to someone that didn't care so that was that but i'd definitely try another one.[/sup]
Those damned bendy maple necks eh!
7.
I only see people who expect when they pay big cash for premium products that they not fail within a year.
You must be reading a different thread then. What I've read is someone raising an issue with the product they've bought that hasn't actually resulted in the product failing...it still works extremely well and the customer is very satisfied with that...and the manufacturer has offered a replacement handle at no charge. Everyone seems to be happy, apart from yourself who doesn't actually own one the cabs so is unaffected. You are prone to exaggeration aren't you.
8.
I don't know why people always EQ Stingrays up like that, they can do so much more! Also, welcome back
Thank you I like Stingrays, just not the sound of that one on that clip.
9. I disliked the Stingray the most...had no depth for my liking. Either the P or Jazz.
10.
No matter how many times I watch that Bobby Vega clip I always think he's going to inhale the pick.
Perhaps he does...just after he turns the camera off
11. Electro Harmonix Switchblade+ Near new, it's only been out of the box twice as I've really got no use for it. £20 plus postage.
12. Just slap the damn thing!! I can't slap either actually, I am sh*t I know
13. I very rarely use a pick for the sole reason I'm sh*t f***ing useless when I do. It all goes disastrously wrong when I use a pick for some reason.
14. Saw, sorry heard, a guy playing an outdoor gig using a Phil Jones thingy. That was all folk and twiddly dee music. You could definitely hear him.
15. I'm so tempted by one of these. I think they're around the £430 mark? Seems a steal tbh.
16.
That's what The Bass Doc is for!
Oh yes. You must excuse me, I've been a little absent...and why didn't my little smiley thing work? :/
17. I wouldn't personally. You can get OBBM cables for about half the price and they'll arrive on your doorstep quicker than a very quick thing.
18.
You go to play where?
My thoughts exactly. There's a reason they get lost in the mix...you're not supposed to play up around there, it is a bass afterall
19. Outrageous! Are there replacement pickguards for these though? Unless it's on a white bass I have a deep seated dislike of white pickguards. :/
20. Listened to them but they never really did it for me, don't know why.
21. The bass player in my drummer's other band plays a V4. Weight can't be that much of an issue, she's quite a slight person.
22. I like to keep my gear safely cluttering up the dinning room...and as I haven't got a garage. The band I'm with now uses a private rehearsal space that is similar to a garage and other bands leave their gear there. I personally wouldn't as it looks it could get quite damp and the temp variation is very marked.
23.
I make a living playing music, and that often involves playing in a studio, often creating basslines for a song. My view is to start with the absolute bare minimum when routining songs, literally just marking out the chords, then when the producer asks for a bit more it legitimises my input. I always put the song first before any 'lick' I might want to play so I figure, if it isn't adding it's detracting, so drop it... I will listen back to the routine takes and when we are tracking for real I have worked out what I'm going to do where... It's also something that you work out with the other players.
Absolutely nailed it for me. At the amateur originals level I'm at more often than not I'm expected to instantly produce a whizzy bass line on one listen to the song (i.e whoever wrote it will say it goes like this, now play the bass line). Amateur in both senses
