1. Guy Pratt likes his new bass...result I say.
2.
Sorry mate I think you've come to the wrong place, 'The Smiths' live a few doors down from here.
Didn't like them either, for exactly the same reason...so the Stone Roses weren't even original at being unlikeable.
3. I've got 3 young boys and they've never touched my basses, they know better.
4. Didn't get them at the time, still don't now. I suppose if you're into catchy guitar riffs being spoilt by someone whining over the top of them....
5. Punk was like a large reorganisation of a huge and overly...something, company. It was like a fresh broom, sweeping away all the tired and whatever stuff.
6. I have nothing against the use of capo's per se. It's when I'm being told, insistently, that x chord is being played when it clearly isn't. Piss and boil etc etc.
7.
Oh that's clever, i see what you did there.....
I missed it to start with :/
8. Guitarists... put a capo on say the 3rd fret and play D shape, you're not playing a bloody D chord!!!!!! That's all.
9. Punk was musical art in its purest form. Unsullied by...whatever word it is I thought of just now and have instantly forgotten :/. Anyway, that's what it was, art.
10.
How apt.
What do those two stand for then? You know...how and apt...as we're talking about 3 letter wot nots. Actually, I'll just get my light summer jacket now and be off.
11. IBTL Oh damn, that's a four letter thingy.
12.
But.... if you see local bands the bass is more than likely going to be the weakest... either from a technical point of view or they don't know what the EQ section does or even what the notes are on the bass and what constitutes a scale or chord.
A statement that doesn't even come close to being a sweeping generalisation in that it is so wrong, it's actually embarrassing to read.
13.
I answered an ad for a bass player and went along to audition. There was a few numbers for me to learn including some Lenny Kravitz and Foo Fighters stuff. I noticed the guitarist was playing the wrong chords in one song and I made the mistake of correcting him telling him it was E minor not major he needed to play. After the end they said to me "Well done! you really know your stuff, - why are you only playing the bass?" ....................Speechless!.............................
You're lucky he acknowledged you were you right. Last practice I attended with a covers band the guitarist/singer dropped the key half a step. Hence one would expect to just shift position...but no, apparently the B I was playing was all wrong, I should be playing a G. Hmmmm, really...coming from the man still struggling with Molly's Chambers...
14. Good welcome to thee.
15. Go for it if you want. Contrary to opinion you don't automatically deafen people by using an 810, the amp has a volume knob on it, you don't have to turn it all the way up.
16. Exactly the same for me when I bought my Rumble from Gear4Music. Likewise though, they were very good and sent on the correct lead the next day. Probably just goes to show though that they're brought in boxed and don't see the light of day until someone buys one.
17.
To be fair it was from a pre-selected list of popular albums they regularly played; only one appearance by any artist allowed - and no greatest hits types.
If you were being cynical then, you may argue it's a bit of a stitch up?
18. Here they are : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/vote/top-albums/
19. I've noticed that Ibanez seem to have reduced their prices. An SR300 is about the same price as I paid for mine 3 years ago after it'd gone up to £280 last year. Yamaha seem to be keeping a firm grip on prices as well.
20. Not heard anything that's done anything for me I'm afraid.
21. I can't play guitar so don't ask me
22.
I've found that too. I had a guitarist guy who wanted me to go do some cover sets with him (on double bass) and it turned out a lot of what he was playing was 'good enough' approximations of what he thought the songs sounded like. From the cover bands I've seen I think a lot of them operate on that basis.
The guitarist/singer in a band, who'd clearly not bothered to even listen to the song we supposed to be covering, couldn't for the life him work out why the words he'd printed out wouldn't fit what he was playing. I purposely turned up at a practice last week, with a band that now wants to do covers, having not learnt any of the songs they wanted to do. This was a first for me, however, it wasn't for them. They'd clearly taken the I can't be arsed approach regularly. What's frustrating, is that it's seems perfectly ok for everyone else in a covers band to have a sh*te attitude to learning the material, but not the bass player. It's very much frowned upon, in my experience, for a bass player not to know the songs inside out.
23. Yes, I do have one. Had it for over 2 years. Gigged it, taken it to loads of rehearsals. I think it has quite a versatile range of tones and plenty loud enough, I've never had it up past half way volume. It's kept up with a band at gigs without PA support. Fits in the boot of a car quite nicely. You've got a good range of features on it which also makes it useful for practice at home i.e aux in and headphone sockets. The build seems very good. I wouldn't describe it as light, however the castors come in handy and it's more portable than a 410 cab (for example the 410 cab in my sig ) Given the price, for a one box solution, it ticks the boxes. I can sling my bass on my shoulder and carry my Rumble into a venue...so only one trip from the car. RESULT!!!
24. I've been watching a Steve Vai live vid, and there he is stood on a bit of Axminster. Same when I watched a John Mayer vid recently everybody had a rug. What is it with the carpet???
25.
Oh yes, another reason play in a covers band is that I work full time and don't have time write material. And if I did have the time I still wouldn't have the talent!
I don't understand this statement either. Even if I don't play the original bass line to a cover I will spend as much time crafting a new line for that cover as I would for one of my other bands original songs. The amount of time I spend on playing, learning and crafting lines in both settings is the same. If you're not slavishly adhering to the original how do you have the talent to come up with something different? Writing is writing.
