Hey all So here's a unique preamp. If you're looking at this, you probably know what it is already. You'll need to have some unique pickups to go with this one - multicoils with multiple outputs, like Herrick or Turrner pickups. I've documented the sound of this well over at my Youtube channel, and many might be familiar with it through that. One video showcasing it is at https://youtu.be/tGkFYOLNOyo?si=8OJjIjhJFvUppCB4 Since I've now upgraded to the Mark 2 version of this preamp, I don't need the Mark 1 version anymore. This version doesn't have a pick attack/treble boost switch or variable Q filters, though it remains excellent nonetheless. It has slightly wider frequency ranges for the pickups as a result. I've copied the blurb from the Bass Direct website for ease: 'The Double NFP Special preamp is an evolution of the Double NFP but designed specifically for Multicoil pickups that benefit from a “one humbucker per string” coil wiring, simulating Wal MK electronics. The idea is to get a full Humbucker pickup with one pair of coils per string combining them electronically for minimum loading effect and string isolation. This method of mixing the coils brings maximum output, clarity, and punch out of the pickups without any adverse loading effects. The filter controls have now been updated with a sweepable resonant peak that ranges from 100hz to 4 kHz on the Neck and 200Hz to 4kHz on the Bridge. You can also boost the cutoff frequency(resonant peak) by pulling up the potentiometer. It offers 6x inputs so that you can wire any multi-coil pickup up to 6 strings. Sweepable filters Range – Neck: 100hz to 4khz; Bridge: 200Hz to 4kHz. Resonant Peak– +3db standard/ +6db boosted Voltage operation– 9v to 27vDC Current Draw– +-5mAh (@9v) Filter boards x2: W: 4,4cm; H: 2,6cm; 😧 1,7cm Blend board x1: W:3.2cm; H: 2.2cm; 😧 1.3cm Potentiometers: Hole size is 6 mm and bush height is 10mm. (to be used with 6.35mm knobs)' It's fully working. Annoyingly, I don't have the interconnect cables between boards, so you'll need to get those direct from Nuno. (They haven't changed between preamp versions though.) Because of the extra hassle, I have discounted the preamp even further. The newer version costs £259. I'll offer this one as a bargainous £105 shipped in UK. Pete

I keep trying to get back into 5 strings but they never stick. Even though I played them for years. Guess I'm now a 4 string player at heart. So, I'm selling my 1998 Stingray 5H. It sounds great. The frets have plenty of wear left in them, the neck is straight, the action is low, and the truss rod works. The electrics work as they should. It's in good working order. It does have a lot of play wear - this is a player's bass, not a collectors item. I have photo'd the many cracks and scratches for posterity, but it is as it is. Weight is 10 lbs. It comes in a Thomann hard case. The price reflects the package. If you're like me, and you want the Musicman sound at a bargain price, then this is it. £1275 shipped in the UK. £1175 shipped in the UK. £999 shipped in the UK. Pete

Finally got my latest video uploading - I bring to you the new Mark 2 version of the Lusithand Double NFP Special. Spoiler, I like it a lot. Edit: Hmm, some of the audio is clipping. I am going to re-upload it. Edit 2: Fixed the audio. New version coming now; new link below.

Looks like the front pickup is 89.5mm width and the rear one is 92mm. As far as I understand it, they're standard Jazz Bass sizes. Certainly the bass that had these in had Alleva Coppolo Jazz Bass single coils in there first, and they fit fine too. Edit: used my calipers once I installed a new battery. Front pickup is 91mm and rear is 94mm.

Hello all Another find from my extensive and unusual parts clear-out. This is a set of Celinder SS Humbucker Alnico Jazz Pickups. Truly a unique set of pickups. I only know of one other person who has a similar set - I think it might be @Kiwi if I recall correctly. I had these made as a custom order direct from Aaron Armstrong back in 2013. I had them made for a Celinder 60's Jazz Bass I owned at that point, and they served me well when mated to a John East J-Retro. When the bass was sold, I reverted it to the original single coils. So these are humbuckers nearly identical to those in every Celinder Update Jazz bass (70s Jazz bass tributes), except they are alnico instead of ceramic. This was to give me a sound more typical of a 60's Jazz, but without the hum. It worked. (Aaron tells me the humbucker design has two coils rotated through 90 degrees, with magnets in the middle of them pressed up against a blade of steel, which in turn runs down the whole length of the middle of the pickup.) They are very low output and low impedance. They have a sound extremely near to single coils - as with other Celinder Updates - but they must be mated to an active preamp to have typical instrument level output. It's been a minute since I used them. But when removed from my Celinder, they were fully working, and I expect them to perform normally. A new set of these would probably be around £250, I think. Ask Aaron, I guess, he would tell you. I've priced these as £140 posted in the UK £120 posted in UK. Pete

Ah, you’re right, it may not work for my needs. I appreciate you thinking of me though.
-
That’s incredibly kind of you. Are you sure you don’t need it?
-
Ah, Audere, I forgot about them. Nice preamps. Now I think about it, the Lusithand Double NFP must have a pickup buffer as well….?

Nice. The Noll MixPot looks good. https://www.noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/mixpot/ As for EMG. It looks like EMG does one system that straight up is what I could use out of the box - https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/accessories/btssystemhz.html They also do something like the Noll MixPot, which you use in front of a lot of their other EQ systems - an active blend control - https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/accessories/abc.html @Hellzero I found a Bartolini buffer as well. https://bartolini.net/product/agb I wonder if any of the Bart preamps have buffering without having to use the buffer listed above. It doesn’t look like it from their website. Great suggestions guys. Thanks.

Hello all Looking for the hive mind to offer input. I have a pair of beautiful sounding humbuckers that lose just a little too much high end in a passive circuit with 2 x 500K volume pots and 1 x 500K tone pot. I'm looking at options for buffering them to regain some of the top end. I know the John East Uni Pre and the J Retro have pickup buffering built into them. Do any other preamps have this as well? I’m just editing a video now that reviews the new Lusithand Double NFP Special Mark 2. It’s an excellent preamp with some very good new features.

Wal-style knobs - anyone produce them?
funkle replied to Bass Culture's topic in Accessories and Misc
Also, Nuno at Lusithand now makes his own Wal style knobs. -
The parts clear out continues. Up next is a rather nice Fender Jazz neck (maple on maple) with fitted Hipshot HB7 tuners and a custom string retainer. The truss rod works, the frets are even and plenty of wear left, it's a comfortable profile (I think a Modern C). It just works, not sure what else to say. The photos hopefully speak for themselves. The tuners are in good condition - one is slightly sticky and needs some grease - but otherwise are fine. The retainer is custom made and rather snazzy, I think. I can include screws but no neck plate. £250 posted in the UK. Pete

Hey all I've been tinkering so much with basses that I have accumulated a lot of excellent parts. Many of which I'm no longer using. This falls into that category. If you're looking at this ad, you likely already know what this is. If not, here's a link to John East's page on it - https://www.east-uk.com/product/acg-eq-01-filter-pre-amp/?v=79cba1185463 I have extensively documented my use of this preamp in my thread on emulating a Wal, and in videos. It sounds great. HAlfway through this video I give it a good demo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDxJtT8a3cc&list=PLSHz31mSGJJxe1vpRBQ_Kzen08nJ7mCy-&index=9 I haven't seen any of these in production for a while, nor secondhand. They seem scarce. This is fully working. Comes with output jack. No battery clip or knobs though. Base price is £250 + VAT new (so £300). Price for this posted in the UK is £199. Happy to take payment by Paypal or bank transfer. Pete

Hello all I have waaaaay tooo many parts now from basses I have tinkered with. This is nearly new, I put it in a bass last week to check it worked, but otherwise have never ended up using it in a project. Link to John's website here - https://www.east-uk.com/product/j-tone/?v=79cba1185463. It's an excellent 2 band preamp that doesn't alter the passive tone of the instrument. It comes with the bag of tone caps that you can use to change the passive tone cap value. It's a very handsome version with a mix of black and chrome knobs. I still have another just like it on my Squier. New price is £175 (after you include VAT, which John doesn't on his base prices). This one is £115 posted. Price includes postage to UK. Happy to take payment by bank transfer or Paypal. Pete

That’s a very cool find. I’m going to try a play with those settings.
