The 70s I like better than the 60s - more hi mids - though I like the HC best of all. I do not like the hot wound pickups, they are too dark. Thanks JT, I may have found some good contenders for replacing the Barts in my Pedulla Rapture (they are just a little dark for my taste, and not enough hi mids).

Has anyone compared a BF BB2 with a Vanderkley 115MN6?
funkle replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
Alex and Subsonic offer reasonable advice. What goes into a BB2 is largely what comes out of it, at least IMO when I tried one. About as pure a cab as ever I have heard. If you stand further out front and fiddle the mid EQ a lot, you may get the punch you need. I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, you probably have already done this, but the EQ you have available may be the limiting factor. Edit: maybe something around the 200hz - 400hz mark. -
Why not just email Marc Vanderkley and ask?
He was kind enough to email me the driver chart, but asked me not to share it. Which I have respected. He wasn't wild on sharing the driver model, but he said it wasn't an Eminence. I assume, like some other manufacturers, he wants to protect the specific type of driver he uses. I suspect he is using a great driver. It seems reasonable enough to peer inside a cab and have a look - I certainly have done. I am interested in knowing where the money spent on this stuff goes. I may be a little OCD in this though. If someone would prefer to share privately, I can respect that too.

Cheers Beer, I've updated my original post.

Hi all Idle curiosity here, in a player who has tried a lot of cabs out there. I am personally still rockin' a combo of the Tecamp Puma 900 and the Berg CN112s, and enjoying it. Owned and tried lots of cabs. I still keep a keen eye on the cab and amp market. In the spirit of figuring out who actually has decent drivers, I have more or less worked out for at least some brands, from either the published specs or users opening them up, which manufacturers use which 12" drivers. And of course which ones I have played and like the sound of. I'm just curious to know the drivers in a Vanderkley 112MNT. Can anyone pop theirs open and let me know what's in there? FYI - I believe the following cabs use the following drivers. I have put ?? where I am unsure: Audiokinesis TC112AF v2 - Eminence Kappalite 3012LF or variant, depending upon impedance Baer ML112 - Eminence Kappalite 3012HO variant Barefaced G3 cabs - Big Baby 2 and Super Midget etc - some significantly altered variant of Eminence Kappalite 3012LF Bergantino CN112 - Faital 12PR300 variant Fearless F112 - Eminence Kappalite 3012LF TKS 1206 - Eminence Kappalite 3012LF TKS S112 - Eminence Beta 12 (hat tip to Beer of the Bass) Vanderkley 112EXT - Faital 12PR300 variant Vanderkley 112MNT - ?? Hi all Up for grabs is my just acquired AER Amp Three, in very good condition and full working order. The freshest iteration of the AER Electric Bass amp series; 2 x 8" combo, 200W, punchy and clear. I've had some car troubles and have some significant bills to pay (very bad timing!), so given I have other amplification, I need to get the cash back from this. I am sorely disappointed as it is literally the best small combo I have tried out, anywhere, ever. Which is saying something. Ed Friedland did a great video review of this series, but suffice it to say, it is in a different league to the other small combos that I have compared it to. Massive low frequency output at 50Hz (if you want it), plenty of highs (not as much as cabs with a tweeter, but plenty enough), and punchy tone. The EQ takes a little time to get used to - I spent a while reading the manual - but for small gigs and rehearsals, which I have used it for, this combo is a wonder, and a one hand carry. It also has significant connectivity built into it - DI out, sub out, etc etc. I'll post a link to full specs below. (Weight 35 lbs.) There are some various bits of info I have linked to below, which may be of interest if you don't know much about this series.

This guy plays through an Amp One, and demonstrates the typical great tone of this series. The Amp Three is similar, but bigger up top and in the lows (!!) - https://www.youtube....h?v=RsenKGU5rL4
I'll put a link to Ed's review here, where he talks about both the Amp Two and the Amp Three in detail - https://www.youtube....h?v=tp8whYwmm6Y
Link to Bass Gear Magazine Review - http://epublish.pana.../0/article.html
Link to manufacturer's page - http://www.aer-amps....=100407&lang=en
Manufacturer's tech specs - http://www.aer-amps...._TD_GB_1201.pdf
Thomann lists these at £1500. I have seen £1100 elsewhere, but no stock. This is your chance to nab one of these amazing little amps at a big discount. £750 couriered in the UK. I can post in the UK as part of the price, but for Europe/elsewhere, I'll need you to get in touch with me for a quote/updated price. No trades, thanks. Pete

NOW SOLD. Hi all Not playing this much, so I need to move it along; it's too gorgeous an instrument to keep in its case, and I have an eye on an amplifier. Studio use only. Up for sale is my wonderful (and rare) 20th Anniversary Music Man Stingray 5 HH in excellent condition. What makes it more special than your usual Stingray is the California Sunset finish (available only on these models), burst flamed maple top with binding stripe around the body, and the double alnico humbucker configuration. The shape of the body differs from the the Standard Stingray 5 - longer upper horn, with improved balance - and a sleeker neck. Also different to the usual Stingray is the addition under the pickups of a mahogany tone block that improves the tone. Sterling Ball is on the record at the Ernie Ball forums stating that these models are the finest that he felt they had produced (of the Stingray 5s). I think there were 2000 made in total, in varying pickup combinations. Weight 4.6kg (10.1 lbs). If you're interested in this bass and how it sounds, Ed Friedland did a great review of this model, with this pickup configuration, on Youtube - https://www.youtube....?v=97ULm6_Y-fU. There are reviews of similar models (the HS version) at http://www.musicrada...5-string-114765 and http://www.performin...es/MusicMan.htm Price is [s]£1400[/s] £1350, including shipping in the UK. Get in touch if you would like to negotiate a price. I am willing to ship anywhere, but you'll need to get in touch with me for a quote. I will ship it in the original (collector's) hard case. No trades, thanks kindly. Pete
AAAAAAARGGGHHHHHHHH! This is another reason I did not comment because I did not want to have to field questions like these! Pressure to describe tone in words! The word clean always makes me think of sterile and that is NOT what the B Amp does. It is warm and full of headroomy goodness. The EQ is very, very good. Really easy to focus in on what you want to cut or boost. I just like the "hair" that the Monique puts on my notes (valve saturation apparently!). I am sure that there is a pedal out there that does such a thing, but I have got to the stage of not trying to fix things which work for me.
Ha, no worries. Tone is so subjective. I appreciate your comments, and agree not to hold you liable for any purchases I may or may not make. The gushing over on TB is sometimes so hyperbolic that I find it hard to take what is said there seriously. Hence me asking for your thoughts...esp as we have had some similarities in amplification before. I tend to think of us here in the UK as being a little more hardheaded (rightly or wrongly), so I tend to give more weight to commentary posted here.
Sounds like we have the same rig I am going to have to go to Bass Direct again
Lol Well, let me know the outcome...I'm not sure if my wallet can take it though...

Owen, I own and enjoy a Tecamp Puma with my CN112s. I didn't gel with the Monique when I tried it through the NV115 at a friend's house. We may be at different ends of the tone spectrum...do you think lovers of 'clean' sounds, like me, will gel with the B Amp?
