There's only one guy to go to in Edinburgh, Chris McIntyre. He has his workshop right next to Hibs football ground off Albion Road. http://www.mcintyreguitars.com/

I'd second McIntyre. He has made basses for a LOT of people and used to work with Martin Peterson. I have one and it's my go to bass.

As others have said, Chris McIntyre or Jimmy Moon. I've used both, and had excellent results every time. Chris for my own stuff, as I'm Edinburgh based, Jimmy for the band I guitar tech for, as they are Glasgow based. By the way, if you do go with Jimmy, try and find out when his band Rose Room are playing next and go see. Really, really good.
Chris McIntyre +lots He works on everything I own for the last 4-5 years. He's a good guy. Pete

GAS safely averted for now then...
-
So, NAMM is over... Anyone know when these are hitting the shops?
-
GAS!!!! I had an IP112ER. Only sold it because of weight, sounded amazing. I now have 2 x Berg CN112s and get on fine with those. Didn't think I had amp gas at all anymore with my Streamliner 900 and Tecamp Puma 900, but...this came along...I can get the goodness of my old IP with my superlight CN112s? Sounds good to me. £1050 is a pretty steep price,of entry though... Pete

Ok, after using the Komplete Kontrol s61 controller, my first take is that the extra integration is not as useful as I thought. Browsing through patches still needs you to look at the PC screen, so I may as well use a mouse as use the built in knob/buttons on the keyboard to browse patches. So no big workflow improvements to me there. I may not be enough of a knob tweaker to get full benefit, but although the control knobs are extremely well integrated into the software and let you do a lot of deep tweaking of filter/resonance etc, and are reasonably well labelled, I just don't feel the need to get this deep into my NI instrument presets most of the time, and when I do, the mouse is good enough for this. The transport controls work perfectly in Reaper. The forums have a post on how to set this up. The lights are a cool addition to the keyboard and I do like seeing what notes are being played even after I have recorded the midi. I do like how the playable notes and switches are clearly mapped out by the colour of the lights for the various Komplete patches. There are some nice ways to limit yourself to certain scales, so no non-diatonic notes can be played. It's not a huge feature to me, but some will find it useful. This feature does not need the keyboard but can be found in the Komplete Kontrol software itself, which means you can download the software for free and use it with any controller. The keybed itself feels nice enough. I like the Kontrol strips. The arpeggiator is nice, but sends no midi data itself from the board; rather it activates the arpeggiator built into the Komplete Kontrol software in your DAW. This can be worked around by making sure when you record your midi data that the Kontrol Patch has the arpeggiator turned on for play back, but it's a bit of a faff. The same functionality can be achieved without the s61 keyboard at all, just by using the Komplete Kontrol software (which as I said you can download for free). On the whole, unless you tweak a lot in the software, I don't see masses of value to this, or at least not quite enough at this price point to see the worth in keeping it. If it was £250, definitely. At £500, no way.

Great thread. Thanks chaps.

Nice one lowdown. I got an email about that and will be downloading. Can't wait. Also got a couple of NI vouchers worth £44 I need to spend...what to pick... Edit: Replika sounds great. I can see a use for this, and I think the download is open to all until end Dec.

NI Komplete 10 (not Ultimate) is blowing my mind, especially in Reaper. It comes with many sample libraries, synths, and also some useful effects - Driver (distortion), Supercharger (nice compressor which is 'warm', works nicely for drums), Solid EQ/Solid Compressor/Solid Dynamics. The Solid compressor seems best to me on group submixes and master channel; the EQ is fine for single channel use and Dynamics I need to get more to grips with. The reverbs in Guitar Rig (Reflektor), which is also part of the package, are really nice. I love Massive and Rounds, and Polyplex is a really good sounding 8 pad drumkit synth. All part of the package also. I think Guitar Rig itself for bass is less exciting than Ampeg SVX, which sounds simply great to me. More tweaking needed. I paid £389 for Komplete because I didn't want to faff too much with loads of different sample libraries and Fx from different manufacturers. So far it seems good value.

Ok, I'm digging this enough that I'm getting the Komplete Kontrol S61 (the keyboard which matches the software) for Xmas. Will return it if it turns out to be less useful than my M-Audio Oxygen, but the reviews are all glowing + say the integration with Komplete is amazing. They'd better be, the damn keyboard is £500 for a MIDI controller....

Nah, they didn't put it on sale, which was annoying. Still a good deal though, overall.

Bought it. Mind blowing. And we'll cheaper than a bass. Great value. This and Reaper are definitely floating my boat.

Hi all Up for a sale a real rarity this side of the pond, a Peavey Millennium USA 5. Definitely not to be confused with the BXP Millenniums made in Indonesia etc. Perfect working order. Gold sparkle colour, straight neck, frets in excellent condition, no bumps or dings, comes with Peavey hard case in great condition. Freshly strung and set up with a medium low action with D'Addario Nickels. Sounds great; it's light, well balanced; turns out I'm just used to the neck on my Modulus Q5 and having 24 frets. Need the cash for studio stuff...so...to the specs. USA made, specs as follows:

Eastern Maple satin finish neck with Pau Ferro fingerboard (15" radius) and graphite reinforcement
35" scale with 21 frets
Alder body
1 x MM style and 1 x Jazz Peavey VFL active pickups
Active 18v 3 band preamp with mid sweep control
Hipshot low mass tuners
Quadra-Just Hipshot bridge with 3 way adjustable saddles
Truss rod adjustable by wheel - as for EBMM basses - no allen keys needed
Through bridge and through body stringing
Graphtech Tusq nut
Dunlop Straploks
17.5mm string spacing (adjustable)
Nut width 1.82" at nut (45.72mm), coming out to 62.21mm at 12th fret, and 68.36mm at 21st fret (measured with digital callipers)
Nut depth 20.37mm at 1st fret, depth coming out to 22.19mm at 12th fret (measured with digital callipers)
Weight 9 lbs
This is probably the slimmest 5 string neck I have played - both in terms of depth front-to-back and in terms of overall width. I didn't get on with bigger 5 string necks and 19mm spacing (e.g. Lakland 5er spacing and neck dimensions). If you don't either, this is perfect for you. These were pretty expensive new, and the ones on eBay I have seen from Peavey UK were selling around £900 for a 4 string. I'm asking a far more bargainous [s]£550 shipped in the UK[/s][s].[/s] SOLD. I will ship anywhere though you have to get in touch with me to sort out shipping quotes etc. USA made quality for the price of a Korean Skyline. I have taken a variety of photos and included a pic from the seller I got it from too, just to try and give an idea of the way the gold sparkle looks in various lighting conditions. Pete

Thanks man. I'm probably going to spring for the £400idh version then! Need to sell a bass...

Hi all Getting more into recording and producing/writing. How does everyone rate NI Komplete 10? (Not the super expensive 'Ultimate' version, and I probably won't be springing for the special controllers either, as I already have a MIDI keyboard). Komplete 10 costs less than a bass and looks a tidy little package, rather than springing for individual packages of various sorts. Grateful for your collective wisdom. Pete
