Hi all I literally just got this a couple of days ago but after trying it out for a few hours it's clear I am not compatible with the Lakland 5 string neck. The B string and sounds from it are great though! I just need something with a narrower nut and string spacing. It's absolutely mint, strings still fresh from the previous seller (they look like D'Addarios), and the bass is in good working order. Gorgeous black finish and pleasant grain and feel to the neck. I replaced the battery as the one it arrived with was out of date. It's pretty marn minty. I have borrowed a pic of a the same model/colour until I can get some more pics up. I beg forgiveness of the poster who I nicked it from! Weight ~ 9lbs from my bathroom scale. Will ship in an older but still perfectly workable hard case. Sounds like a win to me. If it suits you, could well be a cab for life, that one. Or at least, until Generation 4 comes out.
It's a subject of great interest to me at the moment...
I'm still trying to decide myself if I prefer a flatter cab, perhaps with better dispersion around the room and usually more low end extension, or a more 'voiced' cab, though usually these do not have such even dispersion. So far, it's the former for home and small jazz gigs, and the latter for loud stuff. I'll probably change my mind next month
Hoorah! This seems to have solved the problem. Probably moved in transit. The horn now works. It sounds fantastic! Plenty of high frequencies, rich bass.
Result, and kudos to Alex for the customer service. Interested to hear your opinions, esp as I also used the Streamliner as front end for the BB2. I still use it in 'preamp only' mode for the IP - I love the sound, and the DI out has been used by me at small festivals with great results. I think it's a great amp, though you do need to know where flat is on it, and it's nowhere near 12 o'clock on all the knobs. I also think it's not a great amp for precise EQ adjustments - when I need that, I use a pedal, or the sweep mid control on the East preamps in a few of my basses.
Would you mind telling us which cab it was you preferred? Kind of good to see it's not all 100% positive for this cab - that would have made me suspicious...
I ended up preferring the Berg IP112ER, which I scored whilst waiting for the BB2. Heavier, and it does have a less even response in the upper mids (I think), but the lows are just voiced really well for bass. The upper end of the IP is wonderful; the BB2 upper end was even better - totally pristine. I still use my Acme B1 for small jazz gigs, and it is extremely even as the BB2 is. Bigger lows too, though incredibly inefficient. The only other cab I really want to try is the Fearless F112 (or a F110). Great form factor and decent lows whilst being pretty light, or so it is said. If I think those are better (whenever I can try one), then I'll sell the IP. For now, the IP is the go to cab for loud gigs. I bought an HD112 as extension cab for it but didn't like it much, so clearly the built in amp in the IP is doing a lot of voicing (the IP and HD share the same woofer). So that went back. Tried a CN112 instead in its own and as ext cab - bit low shy in its own (just enough lows - I think similar to BB2 in some ways) but in band context on its own or as ext cab voiced very well for my needs and loud enough.
Am I being petulant? Should I stick with it and get it repaired.? Advice requested and welcomed!
The highs are absolutely beautiful in that cab....some of the best I've heard. Should sound good with the Streamliner, that's what I used. Get it fixed and you'll notice a difference I think. I agree it is a little tight in the lows. This opens up a bit as time goes on. Ultimately I preferred the voicing and lows of another cab, but my experience with the BB2 demonstrated it to be a very even and loud cab and really beautiful highs. Alex and co are pretty busy...it does sometimes take a little persistence to get a response. Sorting a refund for my BB2 needed a few reminders and a telephone call to make it happen. Got there in the end though.

Hi all I need to fund expensive studio equipment. That means one of the stable has got to move. So, up for sale is my absolutely mint Dingwall Custom Super J 4 string. I ordered it custom in 2012 and received it early 2013. Used in studio only, not gigged live, in tip top condition as you would expect. Awesome tone, extremely resonant, easy to play, no issues of any sort. One of my favourite basses. Specs:

Alder body with tone chambers
Dingwall's Candy Blueberry colour, as used on the Lee Sklar basses
Maple neck - satin finish
Pau Ferro fretboard - 34.25" - 32" scale
Pearl Blocks
Novax® Fanned -Fret System™
Super Fatty pickups
Glockenklang Preamp - Volume (p/p active/passive), Pickup selector, Treble (tone in passive mode), Bass
Chrome Custom Bridge
Chrome Hipshot ultralight tuners
Weight: 3.7kgs / 8lb 2oz
Original gig bag and tools
Mark at Bass Direct helped me get it sorted out, so I'm using his photos for now, though will upload others. The blue colour is hard to photograph but is stunning as you would expect. It is essentially in the same condition as shown in the sale photos. These are just teasers for now... It is absolutely one of a kind, I know of no other Dingwall Super J's ordered in this colour. Light, well balanced, gorgeous neck profile. It's up for [s]£2300[/s][s].[/s] [s]£2100.[/s] [s]£1900.[/s] [s]£1800.[/s] £1500. SOLD. New, it would cost you 6 month wait and cost well in excess of £3k. Quite far north of that, right now. Open to offers, but I am not interested in trades. It will ship insured and packed extremely well in the gig bag in which it came. If you wish to have me ship in a hard case, that can be negotiated. Pete Updated with new (non-stock) photos, which show the colour depth considerably better.

Bass Player review of Millennium BXP AC 4: http://m.bassplayer.com/article/peavey-millennium-4-ac-bxp/5199

I tried out a few Millenniums - BXP and AC BXP 4s, and a BXP 5. All at Guitar Guitar. The AC means active pickups and preamp. Tried through an Ashdown Evo Neo (2x10, I think; combo). The BXP 4s felt good to me, with lovely Jazz width necks and a thin profile. Jazz pickups and VVT controls. Solid jazz type sounds, very straightforward. Cheap hardware. Low action would require shimming the neck when I looked at the saddles. Light, extremely well balanced (better than I found on just about any other instrument, including those I own), and once properly set up (action lowered, etc) they will be decent instruments. The rosewood looked very dry on the instruments I tried but the frets looked decent and no fret sprout. Bargain for the money, I think. The wood used for the neck was merely ok looking but it seemed solid enough. The finishes were ok. The quilts and bursts were generally not my cup of tea. Definitely budget instruments but quite workable. The BXP 5er had the best feeling neck on a 5 string I have tried. Narrow at the nut, slender profile front to back, I suspect R hand string spacing was 17.5mm. It felt great and again balanced well. Sounded jazz-ish and comments above applied to this model also. B string sounded ok enough to me, most shop amps don't seem to me to cope too well with the low B. Better bridge than on the 4 string, individual units which allowed multiple sorts of stringing. The AC version of the 4 string sounded really really good. Just great. Modern, punchy sound, solid EQ (the high end seemed a little tame with these pickups/system, but not to the extent I wouldn't buy one). Burpy on the back pickup and hollow in the front when solo'd, what more do you expect? Just a shockingly good sound for such a small amount of money. I own 2 Celinders, by the way... I liked the sounds out of the Millennium AC BXP 4 better than the stock Lakland 44-01 (rosewood board) which I also tried. If they had a Millennium 5 AC BXP in the shop I would have walked out the door with it. (I've been looking for a cheap 5er.) The AC versions are just plain bargainous for the sound that comes out of them. Way better than the plain BXP versions. I can only imagine what the USA versions of the Milenniums were like - pretty good, I would think.
