1. Jeff Berlin has contacted me about coming on to the boards here for a moderated chat, like he has done over on Talkbass. Would people be interested in this? Pete
2. Clearwater is ok, but since most people end up staying in Safety Harbor, all your mates will be nearer to you. It makes a difference! Also, Clearwater is huge and widely spread out - if you took a room near the beach, for instance, your morning commute could be a great deal longer than you would think by purely looking at the miles involved - traffic is significant in Clearwater. We'd often go out for drinks in Clearwater, esp as Safety Harbor is so small. But it's a very 'comfy' place to stay. Pete
Renting a room in a house I found on craigslist - $700 pcm. Very nice place. Could have gone cheaper, but paid more for the privacy and quality. If you are going to go, get a place in Safety Harbor, not Clearwater. Funkle, I have been saving for PSOM and *almost* have enough to attend for a year so I'm very excited. I had found your earlier review a while back and found it to be very helpful and inspiring and this one is just a great follow-up. So thanks! I'm wondering why you recommend getting a place in Safety Harbor instead of Clearwater. Moving there for a year (or a little longer, with luck) is a big step so whatever you can tell me about Clearwater vs. Safety Harbor would be extremely helpful. Thanks again! Matt
3. I've had a few questions about shipping in the UK, so I thought I'd put a public response. I've only managed to find out about calculations down to London, but the costs of shipping depend on the service. For an inexpensive service which is still trackable and insured, it looks like it would be about £30. For a Next Day service, more like £60. I have responded to various people about shipping and become better informed on this, so please take this post as the best informed guess I have to shipping costs, at least until those who are interested give me specific addresses and duration of shipping they would like quotes for. Pete

9. Hi all, Having a bit of a clear out since I recently returned from the US. I had a set of the Villex Single Coil Jazz pickups installed in my old Hamer Cruise 2Tek, but since I sold it I haven't reinstalled them in another bass yet. I think it's time for me to move them on. They sound extremely faithful to the instrument they are installed in, and the mid boost/cut is an amazing thing. I just don't have time lately to do more wiring and whatnot on my basses! There is very mild cosmetic wear on these (nearly invisible lines from where the strings have touched the pickups); they are otherwise pristine. There is 7.5" of cable left on both pickups, so plenty of leeway for wiring. Tech specs can be seen at http://www.villex.com/pickups.html. I bought these from Tigran, who represents Villex Europe, and he was extremely supportive. I can't seem to lay my hands on the wiring diagram, but if you contact Tigran on the boards here (Villex_Europe is his username), he should be able to email you one. I'm looking for [s]£99[/s] £89 plus £7.50 P+P. (They are $210 USD new). Happy to take Paypal or cheque, but you'll have to wait for the latter to clear. I'll post pics soon! Pete
10. Hi all, I'm reposting this for sale. I had previously sold it, but not long before I set off for the US for a couple of months the sale fell through, and I didn't have time to re-post it. So it's back up! I am downsizing my rig, and now looking to sell on my custom Flite cabinet. In a nutshell, it’s a light (50 lb) stereo 4x10. It was built by Kurt Meyer at Flite for a US customer who wanted two 2x10s put into a single 4x10 sized cabinet and still have it be superlight. I bought it off him when he downsized his rig, about 5 years ago. (Flite has changed hands in the meantime, is now owned by a chap called Gerry Suprenant. The website is now at http://www.flitecabs.com.) The cabinet has been handled carefully, and the carpeting is in good condition. The specs are as follows: - each side is a 3-way 2x10 cab; they are built together to make it a 4x10 (a la old Ampeg SVT cabs). - Rated at 300 watts RMS @ 4 ohms/side - 600 watts total - Each side has two 10” woofers, a 5" mid, and a tweeter - Speakers are Eminence, but I have never found out the exact model. - Each side has attenuators for the mids and highs - Each side has two Speakon connectors and a 1/4" input connector - The previous owner said the efficiency rating was 99db @ 1watt/meter. It certainly has been plenty loud enough for anything I’ve thrown at it (mind you, I have a Peavey DPC 1400X to power it…) - comes with a custom non-padded cover - 26” high x 28” wide x 14.75” deep - Weight 50 lbs This has been a great cab for me – light, loud, punchy, and even. However, I’m just not doing the big gigs that need this size of cab at the moment. I had sold it for £425 + shipping, but I need a quicker sale and I'm willing to accept [s]£250 plus shipping[/s] [s]£225 plus shipping[/s] £200 plus shipping for a quick sale. Pickup is fine if preferred, and you are welcome to try it out if you are in Edinburgh. Pics can still be found at the old thread - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=29528. Pete
11. WHat shipping company will send it for £10? Would it be insured? Pete
12. Hi all, Just clearing out a few sets of strings for the interested. Used only very slightly (not gigged at all, just tried these out at home, no significant wear): DR Jonas Hellborg Signature (Single Nickel Wrap on a Round Core). Very clear and with lots of fundamental. Were on my Dingwall SJ4. Unusual in that the wrap ends before the area where the string is wound on to the peg head for the E and A strings, meaning that on these strings you wrap the core around the peg head. Interesting!. G is 47", D is 45.5", A is 44.5", E is 43". £10 + £2.50 P+P. DR Sunbeams (Nickel Wrap on a Round Core), 40 - 100. Great flexible feeling strings. Briefly on my DJ4, but turns out I like steel strings. G is 48", D is 47", A is 45", E is 44". £10 + £2.50 P+P. New: [s]3[/s] 2 sets of DR Hi Beams (Stainless Steel on a Round Core), 40 - 100. These are my main string. Got too many sets though! £20 for each set + £2.50 P+P. Would be willing to trade one set for a set of DR Lo Riders 40-100; I've wanted to try them out for a while. Will do a deal on shipping for multiple sets. One set sold already. ALL SOLD. Thanks to those who were interested. Pete
