Mmm, A fellow mk2 V4 owner. Also had a V4 4x8 cab too. These are really punchy! V4 is the best amp I have owned. They are fantastic especially the 2nd channel and valve compressor, filthy, lol. Any chance you can pm me your serial number I am trying to work out when mine was built. I got it as 2nd one made but might be wrong. Is the V4 for sale? If so,need any more basses ?
they are amazing ain't they. I had mine serviced and re valved not so long ago so it just sounds AMAZING! I have been tempted to sell but seeing how much notice its had has made me think again. I have not been using it as I have been using the 4808 instead. at the moment I just want 1 or 2 cabs that suit me so I can make proper use of it rather than it sit under the stairs not getting used. for people reading.....THATS HOW GOOD THE 4808 IS sure I will pm you the serial, my mate has pinched the amp at the moment so shall ask him for it. -

Righty Ho, i have been thinking of chopping this in for a few weeks as i have only recently acquired it but the setup is not really working out for me as i planned so im changing my setup yet again to find the right configuration of size and power. This is the 4808 4x8 inch V-Type combo, these are quite a rare bird now and is truly a stonking bit of kit that Trace designed. 320 @ 4ohms / around 240 @ 8ohm proper trace watts running through their lovely v type pre amp based on the Fender Dual Showman pre amp. Its a great little size footprint cab and really packs a punch and has kept up with my needs and my band is rather loud! Only real down side to this unit is that it weighs 40 odd kg. So not lightweight in the slightest but neither is the sound! It has had a service 3 weeks ago as it had a dry solder joint somewhere on the pre amp board and that is all nicely fixed now. Also for any Trace buffs possibly looking, this does NOT have the rather disturbing Bi Polar Bear power stage that blew up. It was replaced with the updated Clive Button 320W Power Stage. This has all the original Celestion drivers and have been checked with a meter and they are all working in perfect condition. Also i had the speaker cable connector modded to an inline jack socket so it can be used as a cabinet on its own without the amplifier. This can easily be changed back to the original right angle jack if needed. All i ask is £250 for this mini beast of an amp!! This one is how i ran it with my V4 as a cab pickup really would benefit as its a little on the heavy side but can courier for just under £30 if needed.

Could You Be the Worst Looking Bass in the World
longtimefred replied to 4 Strings's topic in Bass Guitars
Here is my lot, the Dean Demonator. Nice.... And to think, i even bought one of these in black!!!! what the hell was i thinking!! Ahh to be young and in a heavy metal band lol. Winner for me so far is either the Warwick Dolphin, the Warwick U2 pile of crap ass bass, the Warwick single cut....hang on there is a theme going on here. Also that Danelectro, those give me rage in ways i cannot explain. -
Has anyone here upgraded their Sandberg? Pickup advice
longtimefred replied to martfitz's topic in Bass Guitars
i had Harry Haussel pickups fitted by the factory on mine as they give off a more vintage growl rather than the more modern bright hifi sounding Delano's. These are what Sandberg tend to recommend if you wanted something different. in a word, they are MEGA!! Really seem to give off a more Fender vibe but with a kick up the backside Great pickups! -
Incubus - A certain shade of Green album is a stonker for funky basslines. In fact any of theirs up til and including the Morning View album is all very very good!

christ i have had shed loads of Peavey stuff back in the day. Started with a Sessionbass head with a 1x15 black widow cab, then added another one, then had a 2x10, then a 4x10, then a 4x12 and also a PV900 power amp and also a Maxx Pre amp. Rock solid stuff! Great for touring as like you say, it never bloody breaks. Chopped it all in during that search for the Holy Grail of sounds and lots of GAS. Would defo buy more of it, especially the cabs.

sh*t the bed is this still here??? World class professional amp here! For the cheapest price i have ever seen! You have no idea how tempted i have been to chop the V4 to get this. But that mostly sits in its flight case behind the stairs so not really worth it. Someone give this quality bit of kit a home, it can kill a rhino at 50 paces!

I was in the same situation when i joined LBD, the previous bass player got studio nerves and left the rest of the band to record the album without him and i joined after it was finished. It was rather strange trying to promote the album as whole heartedly as if it were my own (especially as i had my picture in the booket!!) but then again it was great having the album to learn the tracks to, rather than in a rehearsal or something. It was also good to get a feel for what kind of playing was needed for the band as i had been playing thrash metal for 10 years so my brain needed re setting lol. After a while they kind of grew into my own as the basslines became my own so they all feel rather natural compared to when i first started playing them.

i can vouch for Geoff at Aston Electronics in Stone. I may be taking my poorly Vtype combo to him if i cant figure out wtf is wrong with it!!

some great pick playing on a jazz....

surprising use of a pick on this! great groove going on, that sound on the keyboards is mad! sounds like of those that you mess around with and never use but it sounds great. -

Created a new Trace Elliot compact monster rig
longtimefred replied to longtimefred's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well!! I got the rig kinda set up the other day and had a quick go, its still at home so aint played the thing in anger yet. It sounds great!!! and that is just running through the V Type combo clean. The 15 adds a fantastic tone to the overall sound and it aint muddy and nasty. I tired it on its own the the combo amp and again sounded great. Cant get over how good a little cab these 1153's are. This one is either a late 80's or very early 90's that has had a refinish. According to the badge on the grill its a 300w model which i find strange as i thought they were all 200w. If anyone can shed any light that would be interesting.   Cant wait to get the whole thing stacked up along with the V4 and give it a proper blast. Im loving these 8 inch speakers and how portable the whole rig is. Aint no way lightweight but thats how i like it.   Here is a gypo phone pic but it shows it anyways.   Shall do another one with my full setup when at rehearsal or a gig in the next week or so.
