I remember a radio interview with the guitar player Duane Eddy who wrote Rebel Rouser and he said something that struck a chord with me and i shall always go by what he said that day, He basically said that he gave one of his most famous guitars away to a young lad who was an aspiring guitar player but couldnt afford a decent guitar. Mr Eddie gave him this and a load of people questioned him about it as it was worth a lot of money and he said "its fine, i have squeezed all the good songs out of that guitar now and need a new one". I think that sometimes you hear a bit of kit or a new amp/bass whatever and it can inspire you to create new music you might not have written if not for that certain bit of kit. I changed my whole set up apart from my V4 amp when i left my old band and joined LBD mainly because i needed a fresh start and a new way of playing and the change of gear helped me get the inspiration and freshened me up for my new project.

Yo DC, just thought i would post back to stop leaving you hanging. The guy who wanted a combo that i was searching for has found a deal he couldnt resist. He got a 300 watt Ashton valve head and 4x10 cab brand new for £400. cheap chinese stuff but for the money its stonking. The Sandberg is AMAZING!!! i used it in the recording studio for the first time the other week on the bands new tracks and the tone is just to die for. Pure ballsy fat RAWK sound. blows any Fender i have used in the past out the water. Its so easy to play its untrue. I want another one lol. Hope you get this shifted mate, great bits of kit. Will

I used to cringe at the thought of a Chapman Stick, just thought it was a really uber geeky thing to play. That guy playing on the video was really good. credit to the man. Now put it in a song..... lol (waiting to be hit with links to videos of songs with chapman sticks in now to prove me wrong) lol.

not a mention of the valve stuff here. My V4 is one of the best amps i have ever plugged into and i have used a good few. Pure quality gear. I have also just acquired a V Type 4808 combo and that also is mint! it all weighs a ton and i dont care because its rock solid. I run my Sansamp through it to get a bit more grit and scooped SVT sound out of it but generally its great gear. thumbs up from me.
-
just to add to that, i have just come out of a pretty top end recording studio using my gear without the Ampeg cab as i couldnt be arsed to take it and using my head with the sansamp and also running through a plugin on pro tools to emulate the Ampeg CL we got the best bass tone i have ever had and it was running through a Behringer 8x10!!! who knew
-
i would like to add an old Ampeg SVT CL to my list to make it pretty indestuctable, couldnt give a toss about cabs to be honest, whatever is big enough to suit what venues i'm playing. But if i could choose it would be 2 Ampeg 8x10's.

put it this way, i used to own a 400watt all valve Marshall VBA400 and that had the most horsepower i have ever used and it was thunderously loud! I changed it for a 200watt valve head and it is still plenty plenty loud enough. And i have played some serious loud heavy rock n metal stuff. Cant see many people needing more than a 200watt valve head unless you are playing some seriously large venues. + i have never had a cab at over 500watt raiting and have never blown a speaker with my valve heads.

its an interesting point this one. I love my local music shops, mainly down to the guys that run them are good mates of mine. The problem i have is they never have the stuff in i want and tend to be very guitar based and sell basses as an extra so dont tend to specialize in bass stuff. I get the old "we can order it in" but like Nyl has said, i can go home, order it myself and save another trip to the shops. I would love to support my local shops better than i do but i dont have the time. Plus most of the stuff i buy now ends up being off here. Cant think of a more specialized bass place
