No clue at all about the date of the bass, but outside of this forum, that's a topic title which could readily be misconstrued! 😄

Damn. 😥 Herbie was one of my earliest and most profound influences. I discovered the Sky records as a teenager and loved them all. His lines were a great example of what works best for the song. Anchoring the track, but never just background. Always impossible to ignore. I was fortunate enough to meet him one time when he was in Edinburgh for the Festival. He was very friendly and genuinely delighted that I wanted to use a piece of his music at my wedding. He even took the effort to send me hard copies of the sheet music a couple of weeks later. RIP, Herbie.

One of my favourite tunes, ever, and definitely the best version. That's my weekend sorted! 😎 Thanks!

Many moons ago, my then band were doing quite well on the local Edinburgh scene, so we were put in as local support for a gig on that year's NME tour. The hope being that we would pull in our usual crowd as ticket sales hadn't been great. The bands on the tour? Welsh outfit Terris and some bunch of lads called Coldplay... To be fair, they were nice enough guys, albeit painfully shy. And utterly, terminally dull on stage. Fortunately Yellow was released about a week before the gig, so the place was absolutely rammed.

I always enjoy playing Stax & Motown stuff, but the line that makes me happy every time I play it is Soul Limbo. Not the most challenging, but when it locks in with the drums, it never fails to make me smile.

Nicely done! I love my P-Lyte - first 'proper' bass I bought and definitely one that will never be sold.

Used to listen to 6 Music loads, in it's very early days. Think the listenership was around 100k then! Ended up winning a few prizes and had a long running, sporadic email conversation with Phil Jupitus about the merits of Jellyfish, and power pop in general. Can't remember why I drifted away from it. Other than Craig Charles, I don't listen to it at all now... maybe time to give it another go!

https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/470027-fender-precision-custom-shop-ltd-p-jazz-bass-jrn/ I'm a sucker for Lake Placid Blue, so this ticks a lot of boxes for me, albeit not the "affordable" one. But that's what Santa is there for, no? Also, never ever had a Thunderbird itch, but this is causing me to doubt that... https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/472768-sandberg-48-in-metallic-orange-and-matching-reversed-headstock/

Love this tune - thank you very much!

There are no bass projects, there is only table football! Quality work. 😎

Nice! Always liked that 4-string. Simple, but different. 👍

Love this album, and this is a great tune! Shall have some fun jamming this one out! Thanks 👍😎 -
That is a lovely looking piece of kit! Very nice. 👍

I like the back, but if it's formed a skin, it's probably not worth trying to save. Good effort, though! 👍 Not as random as you were attempting, but I always thought the pendulum painting process could be very effective on a bass, especially given the contours of the body and non-regular outline. Something like this (apologies for the terrible music...):

Pet Shop Boys in Glasgow last night! Not a bass in sight, but as always, they put on a hell of a show.

Hi Rob, if you could, that would be awesome! One of the first tunes I learned with my first tutor, at the tender age of 15. Did have the sheets for it, but they have long since vanished in a house move somewhere along the line. Thanks.

Brilliant achievement Rob! I did have a look previously, but can't remember the outcome, but did you even do a transcription for Al Di Meloa's - Race With the Devil?

Ooh! Didn't know that existed... Want it!
