1.
I've only ever seen two Sandbergs and I own one. Both were spot on so I don't quite get the inconsistancy in quality control. In doing some research on Bass talk, the yanks absolutely rave about them. Read a number of threads and not yet found anything regarding any issues with the quality of build. Where as on Basschat there's been a few negatives?
They were at PMT in Birmingham. Several Sandbergs had the slot for the fret tang cut a mm or so deeper than the fret tang itself, all down the neck... leaving a gap. When I pointed this out to Dave Sheriff, who had been going on about 'custom shop quality' he was a bit downcast me too I was thinking about one pretty seriously at the time. However, I've seen others that have looked and played beautifully, so who knows?
If you look carefully at Marco's photo on his website, you will notice a pair of horns growing out of his head that he is trying to conceal. This man is the Devil and once he has you in his power, he constantly teases and tempts you win the most amazing collection of basses for sale. I bought a 1976 Fender Precision from him a while ago. It arrived within 2 days and is the best bass by far I have ever owned. You have been warned....
I DO NOT NEED TO HEAR THIS!!!
3.
I know where you live in Bridgeford Ha Ha
You're always welcome - especially if you bring the Jazz
4. You could always join the Bolin' Stones (sorry!!!)
5.
Midweek Bump. Not even one offer on this fantastic Bass. Shame on you all
I realise that this is a matter of personal opinion, but it's just not a good colour (awaits flames!!!).
6. Wow! that Jazz is just amazing condition... Must resist... must resist... Aaaargh!!! GAS alert
7.
The PJ, whilst a useful combination, can hum. How much is determined by the relative levels of each pick-up as determined by the volume controls. The exception to this is if the J is a "stacked" or "side-by-side" design, which actually makes it a closet humbucker anyway! (Then there's the Twin J from the Deluxe P, but that's a different design again!) I've always felt that the single coil aspect suffers relative to the split "P", which is possessed of a higher output, and is less subtle sounding. Anyone wanting to hear this writ large should check out another Fender hybrid (this time a guitar); The thinline or custom Telecaster. It has the Fender rip-off of a Gibson humbucker right up at the neck, and the slanted 6-pole single-coil mounted in the bridge plate itself. Can sound great, but I've watched mates at rehearsal wrestle with one all night to try to balance the volumes such that when you flick the selector switch, the levels stay the same (not an issue for the bass, though!)
+1 to that... I think pickups should ideally be matched in output... How about the MM + J Sandbergs et al... that can't be good either?
8. This is the large Pro model of the Gator Pedal Tote with fitted power supply - custom designed pedal board with bag. I doubt that even the most hardened pedal junkie would run out of space with this 'board If anyone's interested it's Item number: 280200983827
9. Sorry, but I've seen some really badly built Sandbergs (problems with the frets).
10.
^ Spot on!
But surely the two parts of the P pickup act as a humbucking pair... The Jazz is a single coil on its own, so you have a Humbucker (the P) and a single coil (the J). Does a humbucker cancel hum from a single coil, or does it need another single coil?
11. The bass isn't bad, but I love the sofa
12. Wow!!! £5k is a hell of a lot of money... Even for a Bass
13.
I've just played one of these with some flatwounds.
Do you know what those strings were? I've been looking around for some acoustic flats for a while now...
14. Dunno about the basses, but this thread's priceless
15. A good formula is three quarters of the new price, in this case £187.50
16. The perfect black Precision I don't reckon this'll be around for long...
17.
Russ, please check your PM.
Yeah, I PM'd you - no reply as yet...
18. I used to have a mid/late 90's fretless lined USA Precision. It was Chrome Red with a white 'plate - looked awful, played ok, bad neck pocket as I remember... They're not common, on Ebay they fetch about £450.
19. I gotta say, £375 is pretty low for a USA Jazz... how much did you buy it for?
20. £30 well spent You have the makings of an excellent 'relic' project... I'm sure you could unload that on eBay for a fair profit!
21. Beautiful... I've always thought a bridge cover really finishes off a 'P'
