Its the best feeling in the world when you get it right.
You got that right ;-) I'm not being self pitying about it, I just don't think I've got the time, application and temperament to learn what needs to be learnt to feel what you describe... None the less I will try to master some more music theory... it's *so* elegant, like maths, another thing I could never get the hang of!
 2. Neck thru for me; they're just so *right* somehow... Plus, I like the stripes ;-)
 3.
Open to trades? ;
Kind offer, but I'm heading more and more towards four, five at a push, but six would baffle me ;-)
 4.
no one?
I think you'll find that people are so anti Ashdown on BC that you'd do better on eBay...
 5.
Sounds like the words of a man with some cash spare .
Yeah, and I've just spent it!!! On an Ibanez DWB3 Doug Wimbish 4 string. More explaining to do, and a bass to sell ;-) Anyone want a USA Deluxe Fender 5 string?
 6.
Whilst I do like the look of the Ibanez and am experiencing 6 string GAS this month - I don't think I could part with my Stingray for anything...
Easy:- Keep the 'Ray Buy the SR Job done ;-)
 7.
I agree that, with a jazz walking line, you need to keep a picture of the overall contour of the line but there are a huge number of additional factors to consider in terms of your overall contribution to the ensemble performance. You lines need to react to, support and stimulate lines being performed by the soloist and the other ensemble members. If his or her line goes up, you could go up with it, or go down. You could also pedal on the root, reharmonise with a third, a fifth, a sixth or even ninth. You could play straight time, a rhythmically independent ostinato that greats tension and holds it until a release or even stop altogether. You could move out of a walk and into a funk or latin groove, you could evolve your lines into a Bach like counterpoint or a totally idependent melodic idea. The limitations are huge but so is the potential. No such thing as a wrong note, just a poor choice. It's all about intent. If you are bluffing, you will be spotted a mile off.
I *so* wish I was clever enough to know what you're talking about. I mean really know... I guess I never paid attention in school music lessons. Infact I think I usually got given the triangle to play ;-)
 8.
Thanks for posting, was beginning to think no-one cared! I'd agree that it would cost more to buy a stingray off here than it would to buy the above off here, but I disagree that it'd cost 250 pounds more. Cast a glance over the 5's for sale and you'll see even they're priced lower than what you suggest. If you're interested we can discuss but I would not be inclined to put 250 pounds towards the trade. Mark
There's *so many* Stingrays (4's & 5's) around at the moment that I think it's a buyers market... This Ibanez is pretty rare and certainly won't come up secondhand all that often.
 9.
Are you going to spill the beans on price ?
Come on dude, you're amongst friends ;-)
 10.
This looks to be a bargain at £325 buy-it-now. I could learn to live with the tacky Sting signature 12th fret block, but the holes drilled for the thumbrest would anny the hell out of me. Sting Bass on ebay
What an idiot to put that thumrest on... shame really, it's a gorgeous bass otherwise. I had the '51 reissue a while back. And I don't know exactly why, but I'd have anyone's name on a bass rather than (I can hardly bear to say it) 'Sting' ;-)

 12.
Everyone I know refers to this man as "the monkey", because of his facial expressions. I don't know many people though :-(
13.
Didn't know there was one on Ebay, but I can't imagine there are too many floating around!!
This (I think) was the CC's eBay listing... Item number: 190175030190 Check under 'Completed Listings'
 14.
I'm going for a lie down now, but Pics to follow.
Wow!!!!!!!!! You lucky guy ;-) This is the one on eBay, right? You lucky guy, how much? Go on, tell us ;-)
 15.
It appears something has been lost in this thread and its developing into a 'one camp or the other ' thread.....
All the above are fair points... But to me the most interesting parts of this thread are these (and I know I'm going off at a bit of a tangent):- 1). What really makes for a good Bass guitar and why do we buy what we buy? 2). How much of the above is down to the image & the name on the headstock? Because I for one am not a good enough player to be actually held back by a £300 bass. So if I buy an expensive instrument (and I do) then it's for reasons of self indulgence ;-) Nothing wrong with that at all.
 16.
I don't know what he is using on his face though
Bass Balls by the look of it
 17.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AetZXksLdJk First 45 seconds of song. What effect could that be? I'll try to go through my GT-6 to find it, then..
Those facial expressions are priceless ;-)
 18.
That's both the amps gone so I'll ammend the title. Roll up , roll up etc for the cab
Hi, how old is the cab? Is it 'Made in the UK' Many thanks, David ~
 19.
To a degree I would agree. However, as discussed in these forums before, the monetary value of a bass is affected by many factors, only one of which is the quality of the instrument and it's component parts. If the ATK had MusicMan on the headstock it would cost you an awful lot more than it does with Ibanez up there.
Couldn't have put it better myself ;-) Another issue for me:- Playing a Musicman would in no way make me a better bass player. When I think it would - I'll buy one!
 20.
Thats my point exactly, you get what you pay for. Is it fair to compare, a Nissan Micra with a BMW 330? sure they both have 4 seats but thats where the similarity ends. The Ibanez was and is a great bass, but its not a MM.
I don't want to get into economics - mostly 'cos I know very little about it ;-) But those two cars are both made in Europe, the guitars are built continents apart. I just don't think that 'you get what you pay for' is the full story... Musicman's brand value is higher than Ibanez (to some), & that's some of the cost. Btw, I don't doubt that the Musicman is a 'better' bass...
 21.
As for being MM beaters...... I think the values of MMs speak for themselves ......!
New ATK300 - £318 New Sterling - £1100 That's why they cost more new *and* secondhand ;-)
 22. Here's one of the interior, with a USA Deluxe Jazz ;-)
