1. Just to add to my earlier post... I had a friend over today, a pro session musician (guitar & bass). His funk/soul/rock playing is just excellent, really very good stuff. So after listening to him giving one of my basses a good workout; I just feel like giving up... But I know that I mustn't. I've gotta just keep on learning and practicing, getting better slowly. Trouble is, the older you get, the slower you learn (it seems to me).
 2.
A few years ago a local music store had an early '70s Fender Jazz bass...it was old and trashed...[sonic?] blue finish. This is before Jazz prices started to skyrocket. The shop clearly had no idea of it's worth. It was around £350.00. It had a set of old/dead flatwounds on and I asked if they'd restring the instrument so I could demo it. The shop declined. I got home and my wife said that if I wanted it, I should go get it. I slept on it, went back next day and it had gone.
Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!
 3. Simple:- picking up a bass for the first time 3 years ago... I wish it'd been 33 years ago; you can't go back.
 4. Have a Bump for an excellent acoustic bass... I'd buy this like a shot if I didn't already have one
 5.
Is this a Mexican Fender or a CIJ one...
They're 'Crafted in Japan' and IMHO beautifully made...
 6.
Gassing for a cheeky twanger is okay, but you sir shall be cast out!
Infact I'm playing it now...
 7. I have a PRS SE Soapbar... great sound and mine for under £200 with a Hiscox case I play it thru a Peavey Delta Blues all valve combo... 1 x 15" speaker - sounds magic.
 8.
...but you know how when someone tells you otherwise you start questioning yourself? Or is that just me?
No, it's not just you
 9.
I don't really know if it's a 'crap' bass or not - a friend of mine had a Shergold. I HATED the look of the thing, so ugly that I could never own it - but it was amazingly easy to play, like nothing else I've ever tried.
Not 'Crap' at all, infact Shergold's are marvelous basses... The Marathon was a good ol' British bass of the late 70's. They were played by that bloke in Genesis I seem to remember.
 10.
Too right, nothing wrong with using lines at all. It can be set up (intonation) to suit your fretting hand, the notes aren't directly on the lines all the way up the neck, I find them more of a guide, you still have to listen to your playing / intonation even with lines.
TBH, I couldn't play a fretless accurately without a lined fretboard... Of course I'd love to not need them, but I've been playing bass for three years. Not long enough for me to have learned my way around the 'board accurately. If having lines means someone has the confidence to record and/or gig with it, I'd say:- Just do it
 11. That's a very fine looking bass... (Note to self:- I'm totally skint!).
 12.
...playing simple bass lines in tune and in time is however a very good start, and - in all seriousness - quite an achievement
That's pretty much my aim on fretted basses...
 13. When I was looking for the same thing for my MIM fretless... I never got one to fit properly And I did try several... How about getting a Luthier to make one for you?
 14. I don't think you should really ask whether they'll slot into a covers set... If you play one for a while, new ideas will form around their unique sound. It's a very different instrument, and most importantly:- great fun to play.
 15.
From my experience, if you enjoy playing Root, 5ths & 7ths blues all bloody night whilst a 'not so hot' lead guitarist attempts a major solo over the other guitarists minor chords then you'll have a blast! Could be wrong though!
We've all been there...
 16.
Use a bass like a comfy pair of trainers, not the gym membership.
I'd love to agree... But I haven't got a clue what you mean
 17. "HERE IS A FANTASTIC RICKY 4000 BASS. MADE IN JANUARY 1960 THIS IS A REALLY RARE INSTRUMENT, WITH TONS OF MOJO AND A HUGE TONE! THERE'S A COUPLE OF EXTRA SCREW HOLES UNDER THE ORIGINAL PICKGUARD." What a load of nonsense... £10k indeed, dream on
 18.
would that be Bob?
No, Howard Smith... a gigging guitarist, but good at basses too
 19.
I have had a thought that I might aswell include two sample tracks that were recorded with this Stingray. These were put together with the versatile Mr Mic Mac Moe kindly playing the drums. The Mixing EQ is not great on these tracks but the Musicman still cuts through like a knife. Enjoy, Nick
True MM sound... and nice playing too
 20. I can't believe these aren't sold... There must be a gigging bass player who needs 'em! Have another Bump
 21. Of course Ampeg make a 1 x 18" cab... I'd love to play that with a 4 x 10" too.
 22.
fancy a pint?!
For sure
 23. I had one of these in trans black Calbeit briefly...) Couldn't get on with 5's but this bass is excellent, And really good value at the price asked I reckon. Have a Bump & good luck with the sale
