1. I've been using flats for 6+ months now, many people say they sound dull or dead, but it all depends how you E.Q and you play. The other advantage for me is that they are much easier to play being smooth and higher tension. I use a P bass with flats in a Soul/Funk/Motown band a Country Rock band and a Blues band and it does everything I need it to.
2. I Want You Back - Jackson 5. The notes you can get down pretty quickly, but the feel is much harder to get when it comes to playing it with a band.
3. Elites Flats don't seem to get a mention, but I find they sound great (on a P bass) and are comfortable tension wise, having tried Rotos and Chromes. They are cheap too.
4. Very heavy gauge too, 110 - 52 I think.
5. If your root is C, G is your Perfect 5th, F is your Perfect 4th. A is your Major 6th. The chromatic scale in C would be every note from C (the root) to C (the octave). Hope this makes sense.
6. I'd really like a Peterbuilt or a Limelight 57' P bass. 2 tone sunburst, maple neck, anodised pickguard. Doesn't get any better than that for me.
7. My guess is: 1. Precision 2. Stingray 3. Treble cut 4. Jazz
8.
Sounds like he put a new set of strings on! Bass seems to have lost a bit of mid-range "authority" to my ears. It sounds more "modern" and "hi-fi" with the Thumpers IMO. Neither of which are sounds that I associate with a P bass!
Looks like a new set of strings too. Black silks to no silk? Like others have said, increased clarity of top and bottom end but the mid seems to have dropped out. The sound has gone in the wrong direction for me.
9. Beautiful bass! If only I could buy this and still afford to eat...
10. Nice, I've gotten into buying cheap basses and doing them up, this isn't helping.. Has anyone else noticed that Jack & Danny wasn't the best choice for a name or is just me? Rhyming slang and all that..
11. My 3 precision basses. Had the black one for a long time, modded with new pickups, brass nut, gotoh 201. Lots of growl! The Squier VM 5 is stock other than swapping the bridge for a chunkier version, picked up the sunburst Squier yesterday, 97' put some flats on it, shoved some foam under them, loving the tone..
12. Smallest was the Landlord and the organiser at an open mic Biggest was 500ish at a battle of the bands competition
13. Best gig I've been to so far. great to see Les play live, dissapointed they didnt play some more of there well known songs (e.g. my name is mud) but I will be buying the new album.
14. Very nice. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
15. First Bass.. Peavey Milestone 3 Go To Bass... Warwick Corvette Standard Your Bass... Warwick Corvette Standard I only own 3 basses the others being fretless and electric upright so neither could be my Go To Bass
16. Yeah I thought I'd Probably be in the minority with Percy.
17. Apart from the obvious ones Jaco etc. I quite like Pino Palladino and Percy Jones' fretless tones. 18. There is a way of playing the D# without stretching, using artificial harmonics. Victor Wooten uses this method as he cant stretch far enough, There is a video of him demostrating this on youtube but I cant find it. I think the position of the harmonic is just behind the front pick up or there abouts on the A string. I hope this is of some use to you.
19. Its on Youtube aswell :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NO_Pq3p5i4
