Aguilar Ltd Edition Colour Cabs - Poseidon Green
Mikey D replied to Mikey D's topic in Amps and Cabs
Completely agree. I ended up here as after a year or so trying to get same in grey. I finally thought it was sorted via bass direct. Checked like 6pm one day and 9.05am next day went to buy and they were gone. So stretched to get the two cabs so this doesn't happen. I don't use 15in and I think my days of 2 4*10 stack or similar have gone. So this gives me 3 formats to play with that also max out the ag700 anyway so should be everything I need. Supposedly the 'only' 2*10 ordered to UK but I'm actually guessing it's just the first. Also Bass Direct have some deals on the purple but I just preferred the green. I wish they did the blue bossa for the 212 too as love that colour. -
That was it. Yes I realised just after about the distorted nature of sound... At the moment I'm now being swayed back to the OC5 after seeing a quick video of it being played on instagram. I had an OC2 for years and regretted getting rid of it...

SOLD: Ibanez GWB35 - Upgraded with Bee Pre and Nordstrand Custom Pickup
Mikey D replied to Mikey D's topic in Basses For Sale
Thanks both. The pre really is excellent and pairs really well with the Nordstrand. I play with a very very low action and this bass is so smooth. Tbh I got a saving on the GWB1 which is the only reason this needs to go and happy to make this a deal if anyone wants it. Appreciate its not immaculate condition as it's been played but images represent it fairly and as always don't affect the sound. -

Can't see where anyone else has mentioned these? After years of lusting over an Aguilar rig I finally went to get a Dorian Grey setup but missed out by what felt like minutes, then this was teased...so I held out and have ordered the middle setup: SL112 and SL212. They come Jan/End of Feb to UK shipping pending...I'll do actual product photos and comments then. Anyone else thinking of going for one of these?

I'm really enjoying Daniel Camarda's solo sound that he programmes in Max/MSP with a mix of delay, pitch shifting and delay and speed up pitch shifted samples of the sound. Are there any they analog pedals out there that do things like this to consider: https://banananaeffects.com/products/aurora I really like the Meris Hedra for pitch and delay but it doesn't do the speed up sound and am about to go for it but ideall it would cover the sampling and speed up aspect too. Anyone like Avalanche or Chase Bliss or more niche pedal companies out there do similar you think I should check out?

I'm still toying between this, A micro POG or Octabvre. Appreciate the latter only goes lower. If I went that route I was tempted by a whammy to go 'up'. I really want to be able to go down or up or both together. I saw a boutique octaver that looked like it was built like a tank, memory says it was basically bare metal, that did this but can't for the life of me recall its brand or name. Anyone? So pending that OC5 is top of list for sounds but not ideal for preferred switching options.

I really have a thing for the Signature Ibanez basses....I'd love all of the non-rock focused ones. Especially the ANB205 and TCB1006.
-
I'm biased but you can't go wrong with a GWB35, I've played a few of them since released (only selling as I got a GWB1) and happy to talk cost: Not sure what your budget is but this is on Reverb and I have a fretted version I love and generally have a great sound: https://reverb.com/uk/item/37448651-ibanez-srh505f-bass-workshop-semi-hollow-5-string-natural-brown-burst-flat

It's bad...but for £600 for an original GWB1 in hardcase with perfect neck and electronics. I can take it.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2020?
Mikey D replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Personally I'm trying to convince myself they aren't all covered and I need a super jazz like the ANB205 and hollowbody 6 like the TCB1006. I do also have my very first bass which covers P bass duties but that's an Encore so didn't make picture. -

Mikey D replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Heres the whole Ibanez family that's staying after recent purchases. -
The Pandemic has been good because it got me back into bass playing but it's been bad as it's got be in bass buying...it started as an idea to try a short scale and mod it a bit... 1.Ibanez TMB35 (new)...try short scale 2.Aguilar AG 5P-JHC (as new from BC member) 3.Straplocks and new pickguard for the above to have fun with mod project 4.Ibanez SRH505 DEF (used from Bass Direct)...as I thought I had sold my piezo Bolin but wanted something still with that sound for jazz and being cheaper was a good thing 5.Ibanez EHB1506MS (used but as new from BC member) - because...I used to always play 6 string before I was solely 5 string... 6.Aguilar SL112 and SL212 in Poseidon Green (to arrive next year via Bass Direct)...as I haven't had my own bass rig in about 10 years 7.Aguilar SL112 in black (hardly used from BC member)...as I wanted something to get me through next few months until the new rig comes 8.Aguilar AG700 (as new from BC Member)...as when I bought the temporary SL112 they mentioned they may have one to sell, so that completed the stack quicker than expected 9.Ibanez 2003 GWB1 (reverb store)...as I realised this was all getting a bit out of hand decided to sell my GWB35 so went searching for sale prices and as I did someone had this for sale thinking it was a GWB35 too so was a great price. So for 20 years I wanted an OG GWB I went for it. That's where lockdown purchases end and maybe I'm just catching up on past 10 years of lack of activity So I have 2 basses for sale ready to go out and tbh if they do there is one more for sale on here that I would really really like (suprise it's an Ibanez). And I'm also trying to convince myself I don't need any pedals like I used to: octave, envelope filter.

Mikey D replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Best: I thought it was my AG700 and 212, but as off this week the GWB1 that was advertised as a GWB35... -
If you ever go to sell the GVB...please let me know +1 for an Ibanez 5 string for the width and depth of necks. Particularly those from the SR range. (but I'm a bit of an Ibanez fanboy so I would say that)

Also a useful resource for checking serials for Ibanez instruments: https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-ibanez_eng.php

The GWB35 upgraded is actually for sale...just saying and all! Maybe we can do a deal before my wife realises it hasn't quite been one in one out...
-
New addition to the Ibanez family today. GWB1 TKF (trans black flat finish). Built Jan January 2003 in Japan. So 2nd series with offset fingerboard dots. I bought this and didn't even know it had the original case so that was a bonus. Some of the most serious buckle rash I've ever seen and it's definitely been played. But it sounds and plays fantastic. As a long time GWB35 player I was surprised how this is actually lighter. The necks thinner in width but slightly deeper in depth. But not much.

SOLD 'Unexpectedly' I'm selling my Ibanez GWB35...as I 'unexpectedly' bought a GWB1 on a whim! I don't need both and always wanted an OG Willis. So someone can have this beast. There couple of nicks in the lacquer with a small one being on the headstock and others on the back as shown in photos. Otherwise no issues and in excellent working order. Now the best bit, all the stock electronics have been upgraded for a custom Nordstrand Dual Coil with exposed pole pieces and the preamp was changed to a BeePre (from Bee Basses). I have owned 2 of these basses, one stock and this beast which has a much improved full warm or dynamic tone, a more musical usable range, considerably more output and extremely quiet, but all of this should go without saying with the quality of the upgrades. The control cavity was enlarged and fully shielded with copper foil to fit the new pre and controls, but it still fits underneath the original cover plate. Controls were switched from a single volume and a stacked treble/bass to following: Single volume (with push/pull for active/passive) Mid boost/cut (with push/pull to change the frequency) Stacked treble/bass boost/cut Series/parallel switch Mute switch The pickup is a custom Nordstrand Dual Coil. A 5 string model wound with the pole pieces closer together that fit in their standard 4-string pickup cover for the Dual Coil as it is the same size as the stock pickup. This was not a cheap upgrade and took time for the custom model to be produced, but it has helped this bass turn into the beast that it is. For more information on upgrades check out respective websites: Bee Pre-Amp https://www.beebasses.com/ Nordstrand https://nordstrandaudio.com/pages/custom-options Videos Video of bass being played Another short video of bass being played This bass is effortless to play and I will be gutted to see it go as for many years it was my sole bass.
