1.
just thought i would chime in on this one, i bought the bass pictured below from Paul about 4 or so years ago directly, it was according to Martin the 1st/2nd Sei jazz bass ever made as Paul is the reason why the sei jazz even exists, he ordered 2 "prototypes" from Martin around 2000 the sister bass is a fretted 5 and is now owned by Corrine Bailey Rae's bass player (i forget his name) the reason i say its the 1st/2nd is because they were finished in the same week. the bass has done quite a few world tours and loads of gigs with Annie Lennox and has been on an album of hers, i loved it and gigged it at least 3 times a month, the "dent on around the 2nd position on the side of the fingerboard happened when it got knocked over by a clumsy drummer, about the wear, i don't remember it being really bad but it did have a lot of little nicks and scuffs, and the finish was looking a little dull. I gave the instrument a good buffing up before i sold it which made it sparkle almost like new which might explain why you havnt noticed many marks.
Bugger it ! I thought somebody had knicked my bass - imagine my surprise when scrolling through this thread and seeing what looked exactly like my bass staring back at me Thanks for all the info. Dave. Obviously unless there are two near identical basses out there, this would seem to be the one I recently bought from the gallery and yes I noticed the small ding on the neck and one on the headstock. But apart from these it appears to be in amazingly good shape after all it's done. I feel a little bit of a fake owning such an instrument after reading about it's history. Those fret markers where the maple is on the side of the neck and ebony (if I recall from a previous post by you) on the front are a really fantastic idea. The maple stands out beautifully and makes such a nice feature. Anyway, thanks again for the info. Mark
  2.
Precisely mate........I've seen Jaydee MKII's on Ebay that weren't in the best of shape and they were asking above the cost of a brand new one.
I blame you all ! I've just put a deposit down/ordered a Jaydee Mark King III.
  3.
+1 The Ritter that Owen is selling on BC looks so much better than that IMO.
Yeah, is that the lovely blue one now on ebay - if so, way nicer than this pimped up monstrosity, in my opinion
  4. What a shame somebody decided to ruin a perfectly good instrument
  5.
Now SOLD subject to payment - thanks for all the interest
I'm pleased for you and myself as I was seriously starting to work out what I could sell to raise the cash and I don't think the wife liked some of my choices

    cubase?
i have started using cubase at home, happy with the results.how does it compare to other packages?like pro tools or other similar ones?t
I've tended to stick with Cakewalk's Sonar which has always been very good. Protools is basically the industry standard but last time I looked you needed a Mac to use it in full (as the Windows version was a cut down version if I recall). Cubase appears to have become a bit of a Windows standard DAW. In truth they all pretty much do the same things but if you were looking to do audio production in a studio you'd probably be expected to use Protools. If you're just recording for yourself, Cubase or Sonar do everything you probably need.
  7. Lovely instrument. funnily enough I've been looking at other examples of these instruments over the weekend - just a shame I don't have that sort of money available at this time Anyway best of luck with the sale.
  8. I have an Axon AX 100 which I've been using with my guitar and the tracking is okay (although I suspect I could make it better as it's not quite as good as a friend has his older version set up). I'm interested in getting a bass set up with the MIDI pickup and use through the Axon. Is anyone using the Axon with a bass and what have your experiences been with it - obviously my main interest is the tracking and how good or bad that is.
  9. I keep getting drawn to view this beautiful Wal 5 string every now and again. The beech top is stunning and having a Wal myself I know how good it will sound. And aplogies to 6stringbassist (yes I covert my fellow BC'ers Sei 6 string single cutaway)
  10.
Here's a pic of my Jaydee bass
That's a beauty !
  11. For me it was simple - we wanted to form a band at school (probably to try and get the girls, that was the usual reason to do such things) and we had a singer, drummer and guitarist - so it was keyboard or bass. So I took bass, 'cause I sort of liked the idea of guitar anyway (having tried unsuccessfully to learn it many years previous). But I think it was hearing Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, John Paul Jones and Pino Pallidino that made me realise the potential of the bass guitar. Then once I heard the likes of Stanley Clarke and Mark King I was truly hooked. Even though I play a bit of guitar and bought a drum kit I always say "I'm a bass player" as this is the instrument I'm most comfortable with.
  12. Wow, those prices are very good. I often look out for a good example of a Supernatural, but at those prices I could buy one new.
  13. The best advice I can give is play with different musicians, try and find people who are better than you and see if you can play with them - you'll learn so much more about music and gain so much from others. As others have said, speed isn't the issue. It's choosing the right notes to play and when not to play that's hard.
  14.
Sorry if this is pulling off topic even further - the acoustic in 6stringbassists photograph (at least it's next to a lovely Sei) is a Wechter 9400. Oh, and it started life as a fretless but was fretted by Martin - one of the most stunning jobs I've seen - he retained the original rosewood binding and it's entirely unmarked. I don't want to turn this into my personal for sale thread, but the acoustic is for sale too (please drop me a PM if you're interested - it's cheap!)
Yes, apologies for pulling the thread off of the original topic.
  15.
Hi and yes - mine is the one on the website - it's a lovely bass but the size of the board got the better of me. I think you're referring to 6stingbassists Sei 6 (every time I clicked the link I was taken to a different but gorgeous Sei) - that's a stunning bass! I've not tried midi with bass for many years (and back then, the triggering was poor) - I'm sure Martin could sort something out. Weirdly enough, the acoustic bass that appears in one of the photographs with 6stringbassists Sei is with me now - what an incestuous world Basschat is! And back to the OP and the enquiry in a post above, AC is Alleva Coppolo
Whoops, yes I mean't the lovely 6 string along with the equally lovely accoustic. I have to know, what is that acoustic, it's looks wonderful ?
  16.
The 5 string fretless mentioned earlier, is possible Paul Turners old bass, that was made around the same time mine was, they were both made for Mr Turner and are very early jazz models
Interesting you should mention that. Whilst looking through a forum on TB I came across several pictures that looked identical to the bass I bought - it was owned by fretless bob at the time and he mentions it was purchased from Paul Turner - so it could be the one. Whilst it looked identical even showing a chip on the headstock he seemed to indicate that there was quite a bit of wear on the body - mine didn't look too bad (or maybe my eyes are not so good nowadays). Either way it's a great looking instrument and plays real nicely
  17.
Oops, nearly missed this! I should have said 'buy mine' - it's up on for sale at the Gallery now (and I'm sure that Alex will do you a deal!) - it's a lovely bass but the board is a little too wide for me
If it's the one on the web site - I did give it a play when I was at the gallery and was very tempted (beautiful instrument), but am somewhat hooked on something like http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=356567 and also would be interested in maybe getting it hooked up for MIDI as I have an Axon AX100 I use with one of my guitars. Be nice to trigger it from bass if this works well enough.
  18. Beautiful instrument ! The Sei's are really top class. I was looking at them a fair few years ago but at the time a lot were headless and I just couldn't get on with a headless. But a couple of weeks ago I bought a 5-string Jazz fretless (second hand) from the bass gallery and have been so impressed with the quality, sound and playabillity of this instrument. I just love playing it to the extent that it's difficult to put it down. Now I want to get a single cutaway 6 string built - I'm hooked I love that shallow bolt on design you've got there !
  19.
Every Thursday night at the Lion Brewery Ash Also every Wednesday night at a place just outside Woking that the name has slipped my mind but I am sure one of the other BC'ers will direct you to.
Thanks very much for the info.
  20.
Hi and welcome to the Surrey contingent of Basschat, there are a number of Jam nights around the Guildford area so no excuse for not getting out, dusting off the basses and re-creating your lost youth!
Hi and thanks for the welcome. Jam nights sound great, are dates/venues posted anywhere ?
  21.
Welcome, enjoy BC and glad to hear those fine instruments are seeing daylight and action!
Many thanks for the welcome.
  22.
That's a lot of strings! Welcome purpleblob (haven't we already got one of those...?) Chris
Thanks for the welcome. With regards all the strings - my intention was to get rid of the Wilkes, Warwicks and Conklin and replace with the Sei and Overwater (the Wal will never leave me ). The problem is I find it so difficult to get rid of anything As for other purpleblobs - we do get around
  23. Hi there, I've been lurking (I know it's a nasty habit) for a while, but after enjoying myself reading the conversations on various forums and viewing the various gear porn on the site I thought it was about time to de-lurk. So it seems usual to give a little intro. so here goes... I'm an old git who loves bass but hasn't played in a band for many MANY years. Used to play in heavy rock bands back in Leeds and North Yorkshire (way back in the mid to late 80's), moved South to near Guildford in Surrey (I'm a southerner by birth) where I played (sort of) Pop/Jazz Funk(ish) music. After years of beating my head against a wall trying to getting a stable band, gig's, deals etc. gave up playing to start a family and get a "proper" job. Been playing just for my own enjoyment over the last few years but recently started playing a bit more seriously again after a friend (the guitarist in my last band) started pushing me to pick up an instrument with the intention of maybe putting together a small band again or at least have some jam sessions Gear wise. I have the honor to own a Wal Custom 4 string (without doubt one of the best basses ever made), a Warwick 6 string fretted and 6 string fretless (I cannot recall the models), an old Wilkes 4 string fretless with slap plates (err yes, nice idea but it's rarely played). A 7 string Conklin (not a US one but fun nevertheless) and more recently I bought a beautiful 8 string Overwater and a Sei 5 string fretless Jazz bass (both are real class instruments) and I have a whole lot on non-bass related bits and bobs (I'm a hoarder). Currently have a 4x10 Trace Elliot cab with a really old Yamaha head. But been playing mostly through headphones nowadays (using a bass pod). Although have just ordered a Genz Benz shuttle just in case I get out of the house (as I doubt I can lift the old 4x10 now ). Anyway, sorry that "little intro." ended up being longer winded than intended. But thanks for a great site and a lot of fun reads from various people and forums.
