  1. I'm very tempted myself but I think I fancy something with a 30 or 32 inch scale length. I prefer the colour of the fretted model, tiger eye burst I think. As well as the sr300, I had a sr600 a while ago. The quality was as good as the USA Musicman I'd say. Why doesn't everyone hide the knobs like Rob Allen
  2. Ibanez SRH Semi-Hollow featuring Benjamin Shepherd - YouTube I need to do some learning, obviously. If you search Youtube for the above you'll find a good vid of both fretted and fretless versions.
  3. I've tied to attach a youtube clip of these being played. Nice tone. I have a sr300 and the neck finish is superb. The neck itself is nice and slinky much like a mm Sterling or a Jazz Ibanez SRH Semi-Hollow featuring Benjamin Shepherd - YouTube.html

  6. Has any member had experience of dealing with Mike Kinal in Canada? I'm wondering about security of paying with bank order, time scale for making the bass, shipping and insurance and cost, quality of instrument or any issues? His Kompact bass may be the closest to what I want but still silly money if not right.
  7. That's really nice. I may be looking for something that doesn't exist in that I like the look and quality of Rob Allen or Veillette but wold like a bit more volume. The Kinal Kompact is very interesting but not sure about unplugged volume or tone, The body is only 21/2" deep. The Spector Timbre Junior has a bigger, deeper body and is cheaper than the other options but not convinced about quality. Possibly I need the mongrel child of all the above. Any luthiers known to members to make one?
  8. I already own too much gear that I play too little. This represents too much money and takes up too much space. So I've been thinking of easing this situation by buying another bass, possibly for silly money. I play at home for my own entertainment mostly sat down and unplugged. I've been thinking of the above acoustic-ish possibly short or medium scale basses to be my go to bass. I'm also thinking of 5 string with high c or even 6 string models. The problem is they tend to be very silly money and rare new or used. A couple of questions. How much louder than an unplugged electric bass are they? What sort of tone do they achieve? Do any members have experience of these basses or buying one, new or used, from overseas? Any alternatives? Thanks for your input guys, Andy.

    Hi

Hi Marc Thanks for the welcome. The kitchen ceiling got ripped down and then we sold the house! Did ok with the house price I suppose but would love my Wal again. No way could I afford one at today's prices though. I bought a Musicman usa Sterling some years ago as it felt like I'd played it for years as soon as I picked it up if you know what I mean. Reminded me of the Wal in that way. I still have the EBMM, I'm learning by my mistakes. My Ibanez sr300 has a similar feel and is incredibly comfy to play for such a cheap bass. It's shocking how few song titles I actually know and have to check what they are called. Cheers, Andy.

  22. Apologies if I'm repeating an existing thread. But... I'll start the ball rolling with... Aria Precise, a beautiful precision copy, in the late 70's early 80's. Wal fretless pro bass in the mid 80's. Sold for a few hundred quid to fund a kitchen ceiling! What do you still have nightmares about selling?

    Hi

Sold my Wal, in the mid 80's for a few hundred quid to fund a kitchen ceiling. Shoot me now!

    Hi

There are at least 2 basses that I wish I had never sold, both many years ago. An aria Precise precision copy and an early Wal fretless Pro bass. I suppose I'm afraid I'll make the same mistake if I sell any of my current gear. Might be a good topic for a thread, "basses you wish you'd never sold".
