Multiple basses live - balancing multiple outputs!
Ian Savage replied to White Cloud's topic in Amps and Cabs
Boss LS2 would also do the job. -
Awesome band; my lot have played with Ginger and the Eureka Machines, proper 'dream-realised' type stuff 'cos I grew up with the Wildhearts (almost literally, went to the same school as Ritch!)

Howay man - Brummie over here, there's a few of us West Mids types 'round these parts!

Top soundman tip - if your desk has a low-cut switch on the mic channels (I seem to remember that the F1 does), kick it in, and THEN boost the low EQ on the channel to suit. Gives you a 'peaking' response around those nice 'kick-in-the-chest' frequencies without eating your amp power with sub-bass that at best the speakers can't reproduce and at worst turns your drum mix into a flubby mess.

Exciting news on the GC/DC (world's worst tribute band ) front, shall wait with baited breath! Another MusicRadar user over here; yes, there is the occasional futile off-topic spat and argument over 'technique vs 'feel'' and suchlike, but on the whole it's a friendly place with (as Uncle says) some VERY knowledgeable people in a whole range of fields (I count amongst the ones I know personally two amp-builders/techs (one with a certain well-known UK manufacturer off the M1 in the south-east ), a couple of professional sound engineers/acoustics guys, a few pro guitar tutors and a fairly big music shop owner). Classifieds section is often rather drool-worthy too, worth a look. (I post there as 'thebeagle', by the way; don't THINK I'm on Uncle's ignore list yet ) -

...hadn't even thought to post this in here, but hey, last-minute's better than nothing! http://www.thecatapultclub.net/gig-listings/ Supporting Loveless Luck in the middle of a five-band bill, tickets are a quid or two cheaper from us so give me a shout if you fancy it!

You need at least a 5U. So that you can fit one of these as well. http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/11-231_CANFORD-RACKWINE-Winerack-rack-mount-3U-black#.UbmoKy82JRk.facebook
... yet the (not shiny) neck feels no better, and the amplified sound is little different. Acoustically, it out-performs the Fender, no problem. But there certainly isn't £1000-plus difference, no way.
I guess that's the thing these days; with almost everyone using CNC for making necks and bodies there's little room for improvement in terms of fit and finish, what matters now more and more is the quality of the woods used and the quality of construction / set-up. Which I guess is where Far Eastern semi-skilled labour comes in...

Your Top 10 Favorite (not best) Bass Players
Ian Savage replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
Aw, I thought I'd be the first to go for at least a couple of mine in vague order: Matt Freeman Duff McKagen Lemmy Random John Poole Cass Lewis Andy Graham (Ian Siegal's bass player) Flea (why not ) Derek Smalls ...and I'll leave two spaces for the favourites I've inevitably left out and shall remember later -

Musicman Sub 4 Original Active Series. Hard Case. **SOLD**

Can't believe no-one's mentioned 'having a tech rider' yet. One of THE biggest things you can do to get the soundman onside, just a simple stage plot and a vague (or even totally specific) idea of what you want in each monitor, ideally emailed/sent to the venue/promoter well in advance (but much of the time that won't make it to the sound guy, so carry hard copies as well). If he can start dialling in a monitor mix close to what you're used to before you even start playing, and hopefully even has an idea of your lineup and requirements in advance the show has the potential to run that much smoother. Something like this, only maybe not so 'stream-of-conciousness': http://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/lust-laughs?page=3
I've never spent more than £280 on a bass, and the ones which have stayed with me all cost £200 or less. I'd love to own a USA Fender or a real EB Stingray one day mind, but for now it's all about a bass which cost £150 and a rig which cost £1500, certainly never the other way around.
Totally. Hence my endorsement when you can get a pretty much pro-quality bass (okay, the setup might need a little fettling and if you're a real tone-hound maybe an electronics swap) for less than three hundred quid, I struggle to see the need to pay more to have the 'right' name on the headstock. I'd rather put my money into having hundreds of Watts behind me

Best Bass Sound You've Ever Had / Heard?
Ian Savage replied to mcgraham's topic in General Discussion
Best sound I've ever had was a Marshall 400W valve head into an 8x10, with my five-string; the awesomeness was overshadowed by the sheer weight though, my SS Marshall rig gets close enough until I can afford roadies. Best sound I've ever heard live was a band called Skam, active Stingray through a Boss overdrive into an Ampeg rig (IIRC); wonderfully full sound. -
He should take lessons from those nice people at Hiscox cases. I recently bought one, but my Warwick was just a bit too small and rattled around in it. I mailed Hiscox support, and within 10 minutes someone called me on my mobile. He took the details and asked me to leave it with him. Two days later, four pads dropped through my door - and they were even the right colour match for the case lining. No charge - not even for the postage.
Hiscox are awesome for customer service, and I'll say so to anyone who'll listen. As if to prove the 'piss off one customer, lose ten' nature of the modern world, I'll now be highly unlikely to spend on Rickenbacker (or, indeed, on Award Session after reading THIS: http://forum.musicradar.com/showthread.php?38732-Award-Session-problem!!

Right then, I won this 'ere eBay auction for a Marshall DBS400 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200922999016?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 and then my car failed its MOT, so I'm unable to drift down and collect it, 'specially as I start back at work next week . However, I'm only actually wanting the head - if someone was local enough and kind-spirited enough to pop to W-S-M and pick the rig up (I'd pay for it via PayPal first, of course) and then post the head onto me (hopefully twenty quid or so tops through a courier company like interparcel) you will gain yourself a 'free' Marshall DBS 1x15'? Of interest to anyone?
