1. This thing has 'old' written all over it - not sure how long his dad had it, but it's just done the last decade in a garage I'm told and was owned for some time before that. Always a risk of exaggeration, but it does appear to have some years under it's belt. Put some flats on it and it sounds very funky. Muting felt under the plate is a nice touch.
2. Guys, wondering if I might pick your brains here. My old friend Ed dropped this around tonight. It came in a very vintage bag, which should have been the first hint. Inside the bass was dirty, with the strings rusting to the nut. However, for all it's flaws, it certainly was intriguing. I've given it a clean, and removed the bulk of the filth. The nut has cracked, unsurprisingly, but the rest has come through intact. So, just what on earth is it? No manufacturer markings that I can see - some very rough routing under the control panel, hinting at a home-made origin, perhaps. The pickup works, though the tone and volume pots work only when they want. The switch marked 'on/off' doesn't appear to do anything. It's very light, ridiculously so. No idea how the neck was attached, it almost appears to have been glued on and then sealed over. Any thoughts?
3. Clarky, I've dropped you a line - I'll have this off your hands.
4. Wow, good spot!
5. Love the tone on that The Fall video - awesome stuff, just like I always imagine I sound! Does lead me to a random quote I got once after a very early uni gig - "Do you not get bored playing the same line?" D'oh!
6. All my old ones have gone to mates, if I've not been selling them. It's a pretty positive way of recycling them, helping people out and getting others playing
7. That's a nice piece of kit, FlatEric! I had no idea that any of them had adjustable pole pieces - a very neat feature.
8. D'oh! Thought this one had shipped?
9. Why use tweezers? Could you not simply remove the plate over the electronics and have a proper look? I'd echo Geoff's comments above.
10. Well, I've always been one for experiential learning, according to the last development workshop foisted upon me - I suspect this could be the moment to find out. I have a couple of old sets which are bin-bound. I don't suppose you know how long I'm supposed to boil them for?
11. Boiling bass strings? Thoughts people? This is a new one on me; I've heard of people cleaning strings, or treating them, but not boiling them.
12. Can we stop carping on about this?
13. We all make mistakes, Assassin. Yesterday, during a presentation, I called our 'Worksite' offering 'Worksh*te'. I think Bruce's typo is a little tame, in comparison to my blunder
14. Haha, looks like we all got replied to in the same mail! To quote Bruce Coyle:
Hello, Thanks for your interest in the New Squire Jaguar Bass. It seems that some pre-release information has been leaked via the USA. Unfortunately we are unable to provided any release details as yet, these should be officially released within the next 3 weeks (including full specs and rrps). We currently believe the basses should be available to order from the end June with them arriving instores towards the end of July/Early August. Full details will be issued on the Squire website as well as details sent to you local Squire dealer. Kind Regards Bruce Coyle Fender GBI
16. Done!
17. I'm trying to use the power of positive thinking to help make this a reality. It's right up there with placebos for it's noted effects. Stagguar? Jagstagg?
18. Internet meltdown? We need Shambo with his avatar!
19. Good position, for balance - though it'll feel like you've grown a third-nipple whilst playing sat down. So, is it locked in Passive or Active?
20. Same position as the Eagle? Any idea on why the switch is playing up?
21. I came. A little. Jag? Summer? Perfect combo.
22. Switch is Active/Passive selector, apparently.
23. Bump. Could do £125 + shipping. Had a couple of interesting trade offers, but still open to hear from people.
24. Guitar Pro would be of some use - you'd be able to see how all the elements of a track fit together. The guys above have nailed it. Know your fretboard; know which chords the bands are playing; know the progression and structure; play roots and elaborate from there. The interesting part comes when the bass comes to the front - if you're playing a bridge, or somesuch, when the guitars aren't playing. Because it's not always about following the guitars
