1. Insane money. Get on this, people!
  2.
Gus - I actually posted that back in June, so it's a bit unfair to suggest my post is now the cause of the old discussion re-emerging. In fact, I thought my post had been deleted!
I note that you have been busy with the deletion button Time to turn a page. Plenty of people out there willing to be convinced on the issue of Rickenbackers. Get to it I say
  3. Some really good lessons, here, in how to manage your brand in the age of social media.
  4. This isn't YouTube - do what works for you and sounds best
  5.
I find that what sounds like a great guitar tone when played on its own can very often have far more bottom end than is required when playing in a band situation. If you can persuade your guitarists to roll off some of the bass on their amps just as an experiment and see if that helps with the clarity of the higher bass notes while not really affecting the overall band sound.
This is a common complaint, I suspect - it's one my rythmn guitarist is certainly guilty of. He hears something on record, decides that's what he should sound like, and forgets it's a band sound - and that the bass can really help him to achieve that! So off he goes with his EQ, and you get mud.
  6. The wife liked them. She gets short shrift for it.
  7.
Whatever you do don't buy a new one - they plummet in value like a stone and prices of new ones seem to keep going up
You could buy my old one and let me hunt down a new Gibson Fees all paid before someone reports me! Molan does make a good point, though, the second-hand market is a good place to start looking for a first Musicman - unless you have to have something exactly how you want it, there's a terrfic premium to be paid going new.
  8.
If you`re after the T-Bird sound Mark, but without the unwieldyness of the T-Bird itself, the Gibson EB2013 would be a cracker (£750 though). Or, a Les Paul bass. I picked up a 2nd hand Epiphone Les Paul Standard at the weekend, and it has the deep thuddy rock sound that is associated with a T-Bird, but in a much easier to play and cart about package. The Epi Les Paul Special would no doubt do this is well (Epi stopped the Standard, and brought out the Special).
This isn't a bad idea, you know. I've seen a few Gibson Les Pauls go through Ebay at some bargain prices lately, too.
  9.
Am I having a stroke..??
Or is Gsgbass? Gsg - are you ok?
  10.
I joined after that but wasn't that just a ban on pictures, rather than liking or talking about them?
You can still love them; and you can tell the entire forum that you love them And, if you're near Billy and are willing to lend him your Ric, you can help him love them too - anyone able to help this BC'er out?
  11. Bumpy @ £300 - lot of guitar, plus hardcase, for that money. Could trade for G&L tribby.
  12. I think it's a positive mood, if that helps Neep

I love it when a plan comes together

    Pint in Leeds
OK well I'm not fussed. how about a pint & use that opportunity to organise a bash/collective gig/further pinty-poo's at a later date ? Just thinking out loud at the moment.
I can see the moment, as the pints hit double figures, that someone reaches for their Fodera...

    Pint in Leeds

I think it was just finding people to organise. I don't think anyone felt like they owned it, and didn't want to commit or get underfoot of other plans. Back is agony, sadly!

    Either date fine with me.
  17.
Indeed. Given warnings received from the mods, I need to be careful what I say, but sadly, preferring Rickenbackers to Fenders is not fashionable on here at the moment. But I guess we have to remember that almost 200 of the "active basschat membership" voted for the Rickenbacker ban, and those of us that love Rics will have to live with that
Er, no you don't, at least on the subject of the instruments themselves - though it is disappointing to find the old discussion reemerging around the nature of the sales ban. Certainly, it was not perfect - but nor were the conditions that created it. None of which stops people talking positively about the instruments, thankfully - if you love them, superb. Still on my list of basses to own. The few I've seen and played seemed well enough.
  18.
They were Charvel's budget range around the early 1990s. Similar to the Squier situation. They were viewed as beginner guitars.
Yes, in short. From the few I've seen, not bad players. I've always had a soft spot for the old Charvels, some great guitars
  19.
I guess I should explain with some more conext. This is down to my drummer who is a great drummer and I love the guy to bits, but he is also a producer/engineer and as such he does our demos and E.P's, I understand perfectly that having a 0.0mm action is horrible for recording as is a 4ft high action but it's just he feels the need to always comment on it not being high enough for him for when he rips it out of my hands, whacks the treble all the way up and starts playing old school Blink 182 songs.
Have you considered sitting down with his drums and repeating the experiment? I imagine that a few minutes of adjusting is set-up, whilst wondering out loud which cretin could have thought these drums playable, should do the trick nicely - and probably prompt a half-hour of grumbling and re-adjusting, as he attempts to recreate his perfect set-up. People learn by experience. Let him experience his own behaviour and learn from it
  20. Congrats, brilliant news
  21. PM replied to, would love to see more of the Gibson. Bump @ £800 with case. I'm trying to fund another EB 2013, so could go a little lower for a cash deal
  22.
I am only going to reply to this thread when Marcus keeps a bass, or does not express an intense desire for a new one, for three months. . .
Great minds!
  23. Thanks for the post, Tom - if it helps avoid any confusion on both sides, all the better You did get me to thinking though, that now would be a good time to start looking for a new strap!
  24. All caps for the topic tags seems appropriate for a man of his, erm, volume - but did I spy on Twitter that Brian Blessed, of all people, is recording with Manowar? http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/manowar-are-recording-with-brian-blessed-yes/ Should be a hoot!
