1. I'll admit, I'll be no help here - so credit to allighatt0r for a much more knowledgeable post. It does look cool, in a very kitsch way
2.
Perhaps people fancied trying a six-string but then quickly found that they had no real use for it.
At a guess, I think ET has hit the nail on the head. That's one of the nice things about this forum. Plenty of access to a wide variety of instruments, and a ready (well, ready-ish - it's a recession, don't you know?) market if we decide not to keep them. I've gone through a few in my time; all have gone to good homes since; and some have moved on again. I may well get some of them back at this rate
3. Welcome in, Ed. Good to have you here
4.
... that was fleetingly on sale on BassChat a week back has appeared at the Bass Gallery for an uber-rich £9,900
Someone should have had a bargain on here, then - it was listed for £8.90
5.
It happens quite often that people recite, as opinion, stuff they read on TalkBass or heard someone say down the pub. One thing that bothers me a little is reviews of cabs based on trying them in the shop, or in the the living room. The only way to form a truly useful real-world opinion is to gig it in a variety of situations and see how it fares.
Damn, I know what you mean - and I'm now left trying to remember the name of that Amercian lad, he of the big opinions; nope, it's gone! I think we're all in danger of this. I mean, this is how people learn - from engaging with one another; and we may learn some of the wrong things too, it's only natural. And, of course, with such a big site we find we have a mix of people - and some are still learning, neatly explaining why the old debates never seem to go away; it's because they're always new to someone Still, we do what we can - and I think, on the whole, we all do a good job of calling issues out and talking them through
6. Rig trades also considered - something Orange would be nice!
7. Lovely matey, looks a total stunner
8. Mulling over a Warwick trade. Cash price dropped to £700.
9. Great band, though
10. Neep's taking a quick break. I think he's tired of people telling him he needs a P-bass
11.
Don't even get me started on the 'Ultra Aged' series popping up - Mama Mia
I'm with you on that, matey!
12.
Perhaps you could mark the title as sold now to avoid wasting other BCers time. Cheers.
Ok, I think we can do that. OP - drop me a PM if you have any issue with this.
13.
There is a reason the "real ones" are so expensive...
The hand-crafted CNC? Or the loading of litigation costs into the RRP? Anyway: diddums. Your posts don't give a sense of you having played one of these, and everything of a little protectionism. A little brand attachment, perhaps. It's touching to see, but not the best of platforms for an objective opinion We are in agreement, however - I wouldn't pay £500; but not is this a £150 instrument of shoddy manufacture. The later ones are pretty bloody good; though the Mk1s, with the huge neck, may be an acquired taste for many. If you're ever in York, you're welcome to stop by and try I will disagree with many, however - Ric, themselves, don't need a budget brand. Their business works fine as is, despite the efforts of John Hall. The Rockinbetters work fine for the NPR modest of pocket - or those like me, with a bit of kitsch affection for an item of such controversy.
14. Depends on genre. You can find simplicity and complexity in all ages, should you wish.
15. I still have our old PMs. Had some great advice, and very much missed here.
16. Ok, so it looks like I'll be in Portsmouth Weds.
17. Very nice, what a beauty!
18. Strange, but all manufacturers will have issues from time to time - no one, big or small, has yet achieved perfection. Glad you got it sorted. I'm fond of both of mine, so I hope you enjoy it
19. Potentially. I need to check my diary, but I'll drop you a PM when I know.
20. Welcome back, Ed - sounds good. I think I'd echo Nige's comments about the bass, but - having lost myself in the mix before - I appreciate it's difficult. Very impressive
21. Sadder, but less threatening and litigious
