Any BCers released a Christmas song this year?
AndyTravis replied to super al's topic in General Discussion
Yeah - I said I wanted it to feel like market square Christmas brass band - it definitely captures that. Its also got a bit a Pogues FTONY vibe Just sorted the lyrics. -

Favourite headstock design? Just for fun...

I’ve fixed the old one! used a brand new memory card and got some contact cleaner under the switches… Basically good as new! well, I need to get some superglue into the casing crack…but that’s easily done
-
If I can find an “as new” h4n I’ll be pushing for that - I still can’t understand why what look like the same mic capsules cannot cope with the same SPL. We rehearse in our own space with settings marked at the same volumes - Drummer uses a Roland TD50kv for rehearsal to keep volume down… But it’s almost like it tries to record at near peak input sensitivity and then tries to backtrack with internal software - which isn’t up to the job. would love to get the old one fixed…but it’s properly had its day.

Agreed - swapped a broken Epiphone LP I had in the loft for a celebrity bass a few months ago. Looks properly sleek. Great design - sounds alright too. -
We need a full time recorder - we use it for all sorts, in all honesty - I’m shocked my H4n lasted as long as it did. Will see what the singer who ordered it (using band funds) wants to do next. Thank you for the offer though xxx Annoyingly, the previous model h1n has manual input sensitivity… Still on sale - so may just exchange. Its the classic “using the latest technology to solve a problem that didn’t exist” - hateful almost AI decision making - and a proper balls up from zoom.

Band has just bought one of these, our old h4n died on its bum last rehearsal. We bought this based on “new model, simple, easy to use” etc. So this has the much lorded “32 bit float” so can apparently auto adjust to volumes. Hand on heart… it’s crap. It distorts like a bugger and the “normalise” function which apparently sorts it - 1. takes ages to process 2. makes sod all difference to distortion 3. seems to make everything sound worse It’s a fiddly little thing to use, feels really cheap and has endless little menus and is hateful to use. I want to give it another go with the Lo Cut engaged…but I’m not overly hopeful…seems they’ve overcomplicated something that didn’t need it. If that doesn’t improve things…It’s going back, 60 day returns at thomann. Will get the old version which is similarly priced as a bundle with a case etc and has a manual input sensitivity option. So if you’re looking at these to record a band - avoid them.

Yeah - he drove down with the bass as he was delivering a PRS guitar to a guy in Stoke so stopped with me. I wanted to check the bass over - up until that point everything had been fine. I inspected the bass - pointed out several issues (a chip, a split from machine head to edge of headstock - the fact it was feckin dirty and strings were brown - all stuff I could sort but shouldn’t have to at the original price) he then started chatting absolute shite like I was a 5 year old who’d never seen a bass etc. He then said “well I’m not leaving with the bass”. I basically laid cards on table “either you refund me, take the bass and f*** off - you give me £300 back and f*** off or I shove this bass up your arse sideways - take your pick” Jenny actually uttered “Jesus Trav” as I wasn’t in a good headspace. I actually could’ve dealt with it a lot better than I did. Maybe I was the bad guy in it all… I’m much calmer in my 40’s. To be fair - I know I’ve said I wouldn’t buy from him again; I doubt he’d ever sell to me again. -

No stress - think I threw my toys out of the pram, it was around the time Iris had been in and out of hospital a fair bit, stressed with work etc so I just wanted it gone. In retrospect, cutting my nose off to spite my face… Can’t wait to see/hear it fully sorted! Xx -

Nothing worse than- I bought a Yamaha Attitude about 6 years ago, the dealer hand delivered it and when I took it out there were a few issues (albeit minor but undisclosed) and I’d paid over the odds to get the specific one… He was then in my house sort of refusing to leave… Really odd. He gave me £300 back. But the bass didn’t stay and I sold it for exactly what I’d paid (which made it a bargain for someone else who was beans chuffed with his purchase) Even though the bass was lovely and perfectly serviceable; the ownership was tainted. In hindsight…I wouldn’t let that poor buying experience dampen what was a lovely bass…and now they’re selling £300-£400 more than I paid so I won’t get another. But I’d never buy from that outfit again - he has about 5 different names on eBay/reverb and Facebook. Based in Scotland. It’s a shame the seller is being a cockwomble - but if there’s enough in the bass to persevere; I’d push on and enjoy it knowing it’s fully sorted…and from a resale point of view - you’ll know it’s kosher should you decide to sell on. Sorry to hear of your issues Chris - hopefully a good outcome and lots of fun to be had once it’s corrected. -
Several things. 1. that’s bloody gorgeous 2. looks better with black pickguard 3. AI generated descriptions are lame 4. as with @prowla “L@@K!” Is a reason I wouldn’t buy from someone 5. I haven’t got any money so points 1-4 are not valid at all 😏

get yer ‘ammer out…always works 🤣🙄

I miss mine - wasn’t head heavy, or at all heavy…my Casady with rounds does a very similar sound…but my lord it was a cool bass.

Yeah - I’ve met him a couple of times, saw the guitar versions at the Birmingham guitar show in March. They kept the 3+3 headstock for the guitars, just don’t think the shape of the 4 aside is nice at all, shame as the bodies are nicely designed.
-
Oh. Totally missed the 34 Libertine?! wahooo! Boo. Wish I’d missed them. 4 aside headstock nonsense, not Shergold-y at all. bleh.
-
Love the look - wishing this everything short scale “thing” would go away though, I find them borderline unplayable. a 34” version comes along; I’m back interested… Weirdly, they’ve obviously bought the names - has someone else got the rights to the body shapes? Surely the Marathon is their most famous bass, why not a modern reissue? Miss mine 🤦🏻♂️

I tend to take guitars/basses in first, lock the car. Our drummer is always first in - and his wonderful other half sits in the car as he does this. I then load my amp in. My pedalboard is tiny and lives in my lead/strings/capo bag. In 28 years of gigging I’ve left behind a stool and a guitar stand…my own fault. An old keys player interrupted a bloke sifting through our gear once - he ran off with an acoustic bass…I’d pulled the same acoustic bass out of a skip a month earlier so I wasn’t overly wounded by that.
