so Fiasco Jam went well - shook the ring rust, did 15 songs…only 3 took a second run. I think that shows that all the work we’d done in 2024 was worth it. Hopefully album starts in the next month. did another “just bodies” tonight. New song called “Shadows” which was sent to me and drummer this morning was learned during the day - really awkward downstroke strumming pattern (not my comfort zone…) but we definitely got it near to “right” after 4 plays through, just listening back to it now.

No it was a weird ambience thing. Thinking on…it may have been the red (guitar) version…

I’ll level with you… I haven’t bought from a guitar shop for a long time, so I’ve no horse in the race. i actually don’t go to guitar shops at all, unless its a totally last minute “need a patch cable” moment. I’m more than aware of Fender GBI (the joke being they should’ve been called Fender UK) and Gibson Europe taking over from rosetti in the UK…I was dealing with Arbiter/Rosetti when the changes happened and have mates who worked for both. but yeah, I’ve no clue what I’m on about and hadn’t considered any of your take on it when i wrote that little post. i’ll go and sort my head out.

I hope the UK distributors now see that the little shops should have fender and Gibson as well as their other stuff… instead of chasing “mega bucks” chains. anyhow - Thomann…think that juggernaut will carry on a bit longer.

Another rehearsal with “Just Bodies” seems like we’ve settled the tempo debates… apparently booked in to record 5 tracks on 26th April 😆 Meant to be rehearsing with “Fiasco Jam” on Saturday for the first time since January. That’ll be weird.

Now then… I might use that for recording the album…

Ah what a miserable old git I’m becoming. it was nice to be out of the comfort zone, and in retrospect a bit of fun which people seemed to enjoy. I need to stop taking myself so seriously.

I’m at a point where I’m looking at rigs - I love my orange OBC112’s - but they’ve no Horn and now I’ve got 2 bands on the go, one really needs that tweeter “click”. Has anyone got experience of the Digbeth gear? I see the 500w heads kicking about at £250 ish and they intrigue me. but also the cabs… will they do slappy stuff as well as indie/rock… I’ve been using Ashdown ABM cabs with rootmaster heads at one rehearsal space - and all the cabs at the room a knackered but having used RM heads before, I know they’re pretty capable. not sure what to do - I’m in a position where I’ll have to sell current rig to buy another…

Hmm. i just sang and played guitar as a favour to a friend. Strangled a few indie classics and then came home. PA was woeful, couldn’t hear anything…people sang along and danced. I won’t be doing that again for a bit as I hate guitar playing, and I hate singing.

There was a point where if we matched another retailer on a Gibson Les Paul standard, we would’ve lost £100 ish. Now think how long you work with a customer who’s looking at spending £1600-£2k (quite a lot of the time people want talking through options and making sure it’s ‘right’) That was pre “Gibson Europe” and Rossetti (Former UK distributor) used to run all sorts of weird and wacky buy 4 get one free type bundles - so nobody ever paid the same prices…it was mental. But yeah, Fender, Yamaha and anything to do with recording - that was 5-15% margin. I think we got up to 22% on fender, then they got done for price fixing 😏 The whole thing about “what’s your best price” and “how much for cash?” Just used to drive us mad - “Chuck us in a strap, some strings…you’ve got a deal; I’m spending £1500…sweeten the deal” - we would always be scraping through on next to nothing to remain competitive. Its trying to have unique stuff that people actually want…we tried G&L as an alternative to Fender; we’d sell 30 fenders to 1 G&L…by which point, they’d been discontinued in a sale and we’d make as little as we did on the fender. Same with Tokai when we couldn’t make on Epiphone/Gibson.
