    I’ve always loved the SB-55 (mid 70’s Yamaha) I even like the meat cleaver of a headstock. I suppose this could be perceived as a take on a fender design...so I might need a slap.

    Spitfires are pretty, and a graceful adaptation of the J style. These Fenders look like someone has a 90’s Tobias Fetish but only bought jazz bass shaped jigs.

    I like it a lot. Heard it years ago when dad went through a big SD phase. Rediscovered it after the “Classic Albums” series was repeated on Sky Arts. Lovely. But it’s mad cheesy - all Steely Dan is 😋

    I think we should run a “design a bass” thread - much like the monthly photo thread. We all seem to recognise how ‘wrong’ other people get it, we all seem to know how to make things ‘better’. I reckon we’ll end up with 100’s of entries nobody will agree upon. ”if only it had 17.5mm spacing...I don’t like bolt on necks...I prefer p/j pickups...”

    I had a 1/4 size with a longer end pin and pickup. Made transition between electric and upright easier. Until the singer knocked it over 😔

    Meant to be meeting up with Lee at the Manchester bass show - as far as I know these basses will be there. I’m going to wear a long coat - I know the back streets of Manchester like nobody else...

    I was trying to get my hands on one when @Ashdown Engineering were clearing the decks last year (a couple of status basses came up too). They had two Czech ones I really fancied. Not meant to be.
