  1. Retailer margins usually are pretty pathetic. Fender margins got to about 15% GP When I worked in retail, and then some box shifter would undercut. Some expensive tech gear was as little as 8% GP. thats business, but unfortunately bricks and mortar costs are on the rise while profits are down. dont know if it’s still the same, assuming nothing has improved.
  2. He’ll be there, they just throw a dust cover over him when they finish filming and whip it back off when they start. It’s the only thing he does all year.
  3. The BB200 I’m bidding on is December 1987 must be fate 😉
  4. He was on something with Jason Manford at the Albert Hall (a re-run from last Christmas) - singing a Christmas Carol of some format, he missed every cue, seemed to forget what he was singing...just not good. I’m sure he’s a lovely bloke, but I just cannot listen to him at all.
  5. I haven’t been in a HMV for years, until about 5 months ago. They didn’t have what I wanted and there was nobody to ask for help, so I left. - as an aside, it’s a shame for the staff. It really is. And having had mates in a similar position, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone - especially not in January when everyone decides they’re going to look for a new job... count my blessings I got out of retail. it’s a dying industry
  6. “Ain’t this a geographical oddity...two weeks from everywhere?!”
  7. 54? Although I thought the 54 had dot inlays?
  8. This has done the rounds a few times now. i reported it months ago
  9. Still 25 days til payday 💁🏻‍♂️
  10. 350f is 7th May 1987 glad I found that book now
  11. P was for piezo. Had 5 individual pickups in the saddles.
  12. I didn’t give it a decent enough chance - I’d had loads of work done on my back and I became obsessed with getting a lighter bass. It weighed in at about 10.5/11lbs and I couldn’t get on with it. it was stunningly well put together and the sounds were all there...just the weight. they didn’t do the Pii as a 4 string, otherwise I’d own one now.
  13. Christmas 1997, I got a Japanese bb300 in red, £99.99, dad put a £30 deposit down and payed the rest on Christmas Eve that year. Ive owned loads of Yamaha basses, my brother still regularly gigs an AES500 les Paul type (very 90’s pseudo retro thing). Ive had many BB’s, a TRB5PII and a BEX4C. Ive always had a soft spot for Yamaha basses, and I’ve owned 100’s of basses from £50 to £5000, and I think it’s about knowing what you’re getting when other brands can be hit and miss. I’ve got a custom shop 64 jazz which won’t be going anywhere and two basses which were made for me and live in a double case I use these to record with a lot. The bigger BB’s just sit right on me and I think familiarity counts for a lot.
  14. Found my trusty old Yamaha book... my BB1100s was made on 17th March 1987. there are 100’s of serial number systems. Crazy. The book isn’t that great to be honest, but gives some information.
