This used to drive me absolutely mental. Cannot stand people who do this.
A guitarist who said “yeah, I was just gonna busk this” - if it hadn’t have been 2 days before the gig, I would’ve laughed.
Just putting this together (some bits still on way)
and the only strings I had spare were some roto flats.
it can keep wearing them as far as I’m concerned.
stops me from playing the same old tired lines I play every time I pick a bass up.
I know some very fancy tricks acquired over a period of 27 years - all of which time should’ve been spent learning theory and sight reading, stuff like that.
So I sound like I really know what I’m doing but in reality I haven’t a foggy Feckin clue.
It’s like the kid at school who could juggle a football doing keepie-uppies etc but never signed for United.
but the bass version 🥴🥳
This is odd - I’ve just had the same talk with @lee650 - I’ve just done a remote audition for a band I’d class as indie/pop and thought “I’ll use the fretless”.
After that was successful, I think I’ll use my fretless more.
Done 2 little demos over the Echo And The Bunnymen meets Pink Floyd outfit.
enjoyed that…

First one fretless, lots of nods to Guy Pratt - got strong later floyd vibes.
And the second was the BB614 with a pick.
The death of the last band was the singer.
Lovely bloke, but a pain in the ar$e to work with.
Myself and the drummer walked on the same day…speaks volumes.
Maybe we were a bit precious in the end - no matter, what’s done is done.
well, I’m going to wait for the bass less versions of some tracks to come over.
this is another thing I don’t miss - waiting.
my in-built impatience and expectation for others to be the same.
I know that’s my flaw.
Well I’ve found a really decent indie thing - reminds me of Echo And The Bunnymen.
going to do them some demos tonight - feels like a change will be as good as a rest, instead of “let’s play funky stuff”
