    Without being a grim reaper…I worked in a music shop for 12 years. We inherited a Surdo from another branch who’d had an order cancelled 4 years earlier. I counted that Surdo at 11 annual stocktakes… weird - because when tuned and played appropriately; it sang. it was £100 by the end of my time, and I think the original cost price was £140.

    Yeah, this opened my ears probably about 20 years ago - I’d previously been dismissive of Jaco. A lovely bloke lent me his copy on dvd and straight away I was just able to get my head around it all. Changed my playing.

    They were £8 a few years back, some folk were trying for £20 a knob on vintage ones… I might have one left, but I’m sure it’s cracked. a lot of people talk them off - they were used across the vintage stuff as well as some of the bbn range and 414/424/1024/2024

    Hi guys, Met these lovely lads through join my band - Mark and Anthony. They’re doing some interesting funk stuff. I’ve bowed out due to my own inability to decide whether or not I’m still a bass player interested in being in a band or not… They rehearsed in Bolton (DOA) when I met them, but I think Preston is also a possible base.     I know @BigRedX speaks very highly of these. I played an original shergold, but it was fretless… found it more intuitive as a bass player than the fender vi.

    I found the 424/1024 deeper than my 414/614. the 414 and 614 feel like home to me.

    Yamaha BB1600, probably some sort of lake placid blue. Maple board scenario. but - see if there was a way of doubling the bridge pickup to capture MM type sounds. Anyhow. I’ve asked Yamaha when they want to meet to discuss. just awaiting a response 🥴
