1. I am really shocked that this hasnt gone yet. If i could have afforded it i would have had it for sure. Nick
2. Damn it. I just bought a new bass.
3.
I've emailed Ishibashi about finding me a P Bass and they've found me a PB57-60. I was just wondering what the difference is between a STD PB and the 57 reissues? Is there a notable difference? Do they make Standards in Japan?
John at Far East Guitars has one of these in stock. It may be worth emailing him. Can't answer your question tho sorry. Nick
4. It looks even better in the flesh. Now i have had a chance to play it some more im getting the sounds i want from it. Its not normally the sound i'd go for. It has that old school 'honk' to it when you dig in over the bridge pickup. Im gonna keep it all original, no mods at all. I think they would just spoil the vibe. Nick
5.
This isn't a 62 - it's their version of a '65. And it works just fine without a Badass (or active electronics)! One nice modification is replacing the tuners with oval HB2's. (A spiral bridge is another nice mod.)
I was thinking it was modeled on an older version because of the binding. It does have a spiral bridge too. Nick
6.
That's a lovely looking jazzer, Magnolia! Are you going to baddass/j-retro it? Did you import it, or get it from the Guitar Emporium? Seems a lot are going Japanese at the moment. I've just ordered a Geddy Lee japanese jazz
I will more than likely Badass it, but im not sure about a J-retro just yet. I have tried the active jazz route and it wasnt really my cup of tea, but i can only base that on my experience with the Marcus Miller pre amp that fender do. I might buy one next month and see how it goes. Well done on the Geddy by the way I love mine. I was looking at the import route and had a few emails with Ishibashi, but John at www.fareastguitars.co.uk said he was expecting this in and as soon as I saw the pics I knew I wanted it. I went to his lastnight and played it for about 30 seconds then bought it. Nick
7. Well after my early retirement and then my dramatic comeback from early retirement (the burning desire to play overcome me) I bought a lovey new Fender non export CIJ '62 reissue Jazz bass. This has to be one of the most difficult buys i have ever made mainly because of being so spoilt for choice. Anyway, i bought this Jazz bass yesterday. Its finished in Vintage White, with a matching headstock. Alder body, maple neck with a rosewood fretboard which has a lovely grain to it and US Pickups. The serial dates it to 2005/06. Altho it is completely spotless as if its never been played, still has the plastic on the pickguard. The neck is lovely and slim, as much so as my Geddy Lee. It also has white binding on the neck which I was suprised to see. Pluged in it sounds exactly like a '62 jazz should. Here are some pics (taken with my cam phone so not the best quallity) Nick
8. Having owned both, its a pretty close call. The marcus is very versatile with the pre amp, could be a lot better with a j-retro in. I dont like the reverse tuners (a pain when your tuning quickly and tune down instead of up) also i dont like the lack of tone control in passive mode. I felt like the marcus had slightly more bottom end, and sounded better d-tuned. The geddy is my favourite tho, its a no nonsence jazz bass. The neck is the best feature, very fast, slim and it looks good too. Put a j-retro in this and I think its a definate winner. Good thing with both is they seem to hold their value well. Go for the geddy, you wont regret it. Nick
9. Bugger bugguer bugger, went to bid and my pc froze
10. Oh how much I want this. I bet the one I bought of you previously is nothing compared to this. Nick
11. I have been um-ing and ah-ing about getting a CIJ Jazz bass for a few weeks. I think i have setteled on a 62 re-issue in vintage white with matching heastock from Far east guitars. Been emailing John today and it looks like im going to pull the trigger on it. Should arrive in a week or so :-) Nick
12. Arse @ being skint is all I can say. Its very true what Beedster said, when i had mine I felt like it improved my playing. Its just so easy to play. Someone is going to be very happy. Dont suppose you'll take baby snakes as payment?....no.... thought not. :-) Nick.
13. I used to have a fretless one. Great bass. Nick
14. Thats what i thought. Its worth what someone is willing to pay. I think i'll take a risk and buy it. Nick
15. I have seen a 1978 Fender P Bass, black with a rosewood fretboard. I believe the body has been re-finished in black. Other than that its all original, with the original case and ash trays etc. The serial number is S881639. Anyways, the question is how much is this worth? Im thinking about buying it but dont want to pay more than its worth. Nick
16. Interesting topic. I have had a modest amount of basses pass thru my hands. 1 x Guild B301-f 1 x Stagg jazz bass. 3 x MIM Jazz bass, 1 x MIJ Jazz bass (i really really regret selling this) 1 x MIM P Bass (modded with quarter pounders, again i regret letting this one go) 1x Squire vintage modified 70's Jazz 1 x Squire Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz 2 X Geddy Lee Jazz Bass (one i still have) 1 x Marcus Miller Jazz bass. (I still have) 3 x Jetglow Rickenbacker 4003's (one i still have) 1 x Modulus Flea Bass (which I miss) 2 x EB Stingrays 1 x Cort Curbow 5'er 1 x Yamaha RBX270 1 x Husdon Electro Acoustic 1 x AXL p/j bass (signed by the chili peppers) 1 x Squire bronco bass. Im sure there are more that i dont remember. Nick
17. Did you get a pic of the Rick? Nick
18.
Hi all I am looking for a decent afforable compressor pedal (sub £100) as I have seen plenty of compressors but most going for quite a lot of money , any suggestions
I recently got a Aphex Punch Factory. Its the best comp pedal I have tried to date. Very simple to use. Seems to do the job very well. Nick
19. I think the Neck Pup cover is quite handy to rest my hand on when slapping. Without it on i tend to mute the D+G strings. Prob down to my poor technique. Fingerstyle they are bit of a pain tho because i like to anchor my thumb on the neck pup when i play. I think they look pretty cool too. Nick
20.
are the stacked pots a straight replacement fit? where is a good place to buy those and do they come with any clues about wiring them? just bought a MM from ebay-due to arrive next week here from the US........
You can get the pots from Here. Im a complete novice when it comes to electronics and stuff like that so i would get someone else to do it for me. I'd guess that its not a difficult job tho becasue I have heard of others who have done this. Im not sure if its the 500k/500k or the 250k/500k pots that I'll need. Well done with the purchase tho
A while ago I think I got offered a US 4 string in a trade? Of course I'm probably wrong but did they maybe switch production to japan at some point?
As far as im aware the 4 Strings are only made in Japan. Nick

22. I saw This on gumtree. Looks rather lovely. Nick
23.
just noticed your bass collection - between your 2 jazzes and your 4003 which do you use most? i only ask cos at the moment my main bass is my 4003 but i've always regretted selling my first jazz which was a ?73 american-made one, and i wonder if my hankering for another one is just a GAS attack?
At the moment i use my Marcus the most prob because its the newest. I havent giged it yet as the day i bought it my band split. I dont use my Rick that much lately, i havent used it live in months. My Marcus will prob become my Main bass, My Geddy is D-tuned and my Rick is my backup. I was fooling about with my Marcus D tuned last night and it sounded amazing. Really growly. The only issue i have with my Marcus is the lack of tone control when in passive. Im thinking about swapping the vol controls for stacked vol/tone pots. Nick
24.
cos i'm thinking of buying one off eBay and people generally seem to think Jap ones are more consistent quality.
Yep they are built in Japan. I know of somenoe selling one for around £500 Pm me and i'll pass on his details. He'd prob go lower too..... Nick
