Help - Snap, Crackle and pop???
dirtystatic replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Repairs and Technical
Dont know if this is any help but I used to have an old 300w peavey mixer head which I ran into a custom 15" cab (my first rig). I was getting the same sort of sounds.. a constant hiss that would then crack violently and end with a loud pop. After that it would return to normal and then the hiss would start building up again. If I increased the volume on the amp the noises didn't get any louder, they stayed at a constant level So I took it apart, i cleaned the pots and then the jack sockets an repaired what looked like a few dry joints and put it back together, there was a slight improvement but not much. My dad had a listen and because of the natures of the sound he suggested it might be the capacitors. He chopped the old ones out and took them to maplin to look for some matching ones... soldered them in and hey presto, good as new... I dont know if theres away of testing the capacitors with a multimeter maybe.. but it's definitely worth some concideration seeing as your problem sounds alot like mine! Hope this helps -
by kit do you mean individual components for self-assembly?

that brown dog is something els.. sounds great twinned with that agent funk.. are they readily available?

hey man, i used to use the same pedal and i had the same problems. ive been advised to seek out a zoom fuzz factory, a coloursound tonebender and a tonefactor huckleberry. one i particularly liked the sound of was the zvex woolly mammoth but its expensive and ive not heard many good thinks about it from some of the guys on here ofcourse i cant offer you any more advice than that but ill let you know how i get on when i get round to trying them
-
ibanez weeping demon maybe? its not bass specific but it sounds fantastic
-
cheers for all the replies, im gonna make every effort to check these pedals out. especially the tone bender, i heard some good things about that but when i looked into them i wasnt sure which model was which. im a justin chancellor fan and i heard he used the tonebender, but there was a bass specific model on there.. left me a little confused... http://www.macaris.co.uk/product_range.asp...=27&catID=5 been enquiring about a TF huckleberry, any of you guys care to comment on them? and btw, bass is passive

the who +1 and i wouldnt take pinos softly softly approach, id give it abit of the old balls-to-the-wall entwistle styl-ee. ofcourse i'm not even one millionth the player he was and I'd just make a fool out of myself
-
cheers for the info mate, ill go have a listen now

for the money you pay youd like to imagine there was more going on inside your cabs... the perspex sorta spoils the illusion

Recently bought a Sansamp PBDI and with that Ive set up a clean channel, one with a bit of grit and a little volume boost, and another with full on crunch.. so thats worked out nicely for me but now im after a fuzz, i recently parted with a little big muff, wasnt too fond of that.. the nicest sounding one ive come across is the woolly mammoth, not sure its worth handing over £220 for one though.. anyone with a bit more pedal experience be able to suggest an alternative? cheers guys

id love to have both but seeing as the only effect out of the two im actively using is an octave down i think ill go for the BSW
-
shame about the LEDS - its stunning otherwise

john entwistle and keith moon - for obvious reasons justin chancellor and danny carrey - simply for doing everything a rythym section SHOULDNT do but still getting it right!
-
does iti offer and octave down setting too? are they readily available? i was planning on getting a digitech BSW for all my octave needs...
-
Ive yet to heard a bad word about the CIJs, there's a local player who has a jazz but its the japanese entry level, the output seemed a little week - hell of a volume drop from a passive yamaha bb414, but in my opinion it still played better than the MIMs I've played. But I'll be sure to go for one the the US (more than likely the PB62 or 70) - better spec and the stock colours are alot more tasty, I'll probably badass it and throw on a hipstop D tuner too.
-
I'm after a CIJ P-bass, I've checked out what's on offer at ishibashi but I'm a bit baffled as to what the differences between the various models are... If the model number is follwd by a 'US' does it basically mean it's made with the same materials and components as the MIA Fenders?
-
What's the Unibass? I've seen them on boards before but I've never played with one. I was planning on picking up the Digitech BSW anyway because I heard its one of the best octave setting you can get for that sort of money.. At the moment I'm using a Sansamp for general tone sculpting and then a BP200 multi fx to add a little excitement to my playin. it was a great pedal to begin with, but now the quality of the fx is p*ssing me off and with my new job im looking to put together a nice little board
Yamaha BB614 (the active version) if you look hard enough at that momey... Very cool looking bass as well!
How does the active circuit rate in the BBs? I would of thought with it being a budget bass that it would be a bit rubbish and that the passive 414 would of been better?.. just wondering
-
aye, definitely the yamaha bb414 in black, fantastic bass.. also, an ibanez soundgear maybe? i think you can get them for that sort of price oh and +1 for the Epi T-bird, I have one and i love it - the neck dive is easily sorted by gettin urself a big grippy strap or moving the strap button down behind the neck

I dont think I could justify buying all that roland kit, although it certainly looks like an excitin bit of kit

Hey guys, Planning on buying a synth and seeing as I've started a new job and the money seems pretty good I thought I'd get something of conciderable quality. Just wondering what's the best way to get hold of one of these and what sort of price I should expect to pay? If they're that hard to get hold of could anyone recomment another good synth pedal. I'm not after any sound in particular, I just want quality and variety... Cheers!
