I took Craig's Delano Sonar 3 preamp last week. Fast and friendly emails, fair price, and the gear arrived exactly as described. Doesn't get any easier than this!

I purchased a Boss ODB3 from Patrick. Good price, fast and friendly PM's and my new ODB3 arrived fine. No issues here, smoother than a baby's... err...

Neepheid - yeah I've heard a lot of good stuff about Schaller. Liking the looks, but I'm hoping to string through body really on this bass, so not gonna be a Schaller this time. BigRedX - aha, I know absolutely nothing about ABM, will check it out. Cheers! -

Yah, my thoughts exactly, can't find an A-B audio comparrison anywhere either. Well, the current electronics in this beast seem ridiculously heavy to me, so I'm expecting to save a bit of weight when I've switched out the pickups and preamp. That said, it's not like I've ever done this before, so no idea what stuff that sounds better will add or subtract to the weight. Maybe every pickup could be used as a blunt murder weapon and these ones aren't unusual after all. I guess I'll go aluminium this time just to be safe... Scott -

Cheers Rumple, that definitely got me off on the right track. Don't suppose you've got any experience of choosing between the brass and aluminium versions? -

Hey all, So I've stumbled upon a beaut of a 5 string that I'm going to attempt to refurb. I love the body shape, feel of the neck and finish as it is, not so keen on the electronics (which add a shed load of unnecessary weight) and the flimsy bridge. Given that I can coax a workable sound out of the electronics for now and I'm not yet developing a stoop, I thought I'd change the bridge first. I'm looking for a bridge that wouldn't be a total swine to fit on a flat top body (first refurb project), 5 string obviously, can be strung through, isn't too finicky to get set up, comes in black and can be purchased for a max of about £100. Does such a beast exist? Whoever fitted the original bridge shouldn't have been allowed near a drill, so will probably end up filling those 5 holes and starting a fresh. Any advice welcome... Scott

Buzzing noise from Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 head
Scotticus replied to Scotticus's topic in Repairs and Technical
Is it still under warranty? Not trying to be clever but thought you may not be aware, they come with a three year guarantee.
Bass Direct are telling me 2 years, and I've had the head since Sept 09... Bugger! Thanks for the tips chaps. I've followed them best I can, but would be the first to admit that I'm clueless about this kind of thing, so not managed to narrow it down anymore. Mark at Bass Direct has put me in touch with a guy at Fender who reckons he'll diagnose the fault for free and quote a price before starting any repairs. Unless anybody has horror stories or knows of somewhere cheap and reliable in london, I'll drop the Shuttle in the post in the morning. Scott -
Hey all, Got a strange problem with my Shuttle 6.0 that hopefully someone here knows how to fix. Basically, I get an intermittent buzzing sound coming through the Speakon output. When it happens, I've found tapping gently around the top panel will eventually get rid of it, but there's not a specific point to go for that I can locate. The closest thing to consistency I've got is that if I touch the mute button without grounding myself by also touching the metal casing, the buzzing appears every time, so I'm guessing it's something to do with this mute switch being on the blink. All the pots work fine and don't cause the same problem. I've checked for any obvious loose connections on the power and Speakon sockets but no clues there either. If you've had a Shuttle in bits before and can give me any pointers on how to remedy it, I'd be forever in your debt. Cheers Scott
