1. Anyone used Olympia flatwounds? How long does the US ebay guy take to deliver the Precisions to the UK? Is this the guy? 2.
The other option would be Rotosound Trubass black nylon strings. Your bass / pickup will obviously be a factor in the tone but you'll certainly notice a real change with flats or Trubass - it'll get rid of the brightness. From what you say I find Rotosound Trubass are the closest you can get a bass guitar to sound like a double bass. They look a bit different but are good fun.
They look pretty cool. Does the heavy guage make a big difference? Any sound samples anywhere to show what these sound like?
3. Okay - my cheap Affinity P-bass has a very (overly) bright, twangy, almost tinny sound. Before I fork out the money on them, can anone tell me how much effect putting flatwounds on would have on the tone? I don't want to spend £25 on a new set and find that the tone is dictated by pick-ups and the guitar itself. I play in a salsa band so I really want a warm, neutral, double-bass type sound, not a funky, bright, slap bass sound. Are flatwounds the way to go? Will they make a drastic difference?
4. Just bought a Laney HCM30B and it's missing three corner protectors. Anyone know where I can buy cosmetic spare parts like this for not very much money?
5. Is this in Oxford? If you were to post it out, how much would you charge? Cheers - looks a good bass and a great price too.
6. Hi I'm new to the world of bass guitars so I'm looking to pick up a first instrument for as little as possible, but want one that's going to last me until I decide to upgrade vountarily, rather than because I bought a heap of crud. A guitar shop nearby has stock of Adam Black Titan basses for under £100 (rrp £200) but I can't find any reviews in the usual places. I was wondering if anyone on here has used one and how they compare to the usual entry level guitars, like Squiers, Staggs etc. Also - for practice with a band (not for gigs) how much wattage do I need for an amp? 20W, 30W more? We're playing salsa, so I'm playing with percussionists, horns and a piano. Thanks in advance for the help - this is my first post, so hello and I hope it's in the right place.
